I liked it. I felt like crying the whole time cause i adore the manga so much. I'm glad i live in this moment in time. The adaptation was perfect, the ending's last part with yuki and tohru warmed my heart since i know the nature of their bond.

It's here, and it's gorgeous, I'm actually a bit moved!

Tooru is such a strong, sweet girl. She had to deal with loss, but instead of giving in to it, she is striving to live strongly, in her own way, just like her mother would want her to. As for the Soumas, Shigure is cool, Yuki is okay, Kyou is cool too and he is looking great. I can't wait to get to know them better once again.

I just find it baffling that these guys can't look after themselves and need a girl to become their babysitter/maid. At least in this case it's pretty much a fair exchange since Tooru is going to live in their house, and she will be able to be at ease there like this. Oh, and her friends are cool too, a pity her family doesn't seem to really care about her. But she isn't alone, and she is going to be okay without them.

Welp, the episode ended with her finding out their secret in a really funny scene, just like I remembered it. The ED is beautiful, and I already can't wait for the next one, I need to see the OP!

So far its just your average Shoujo but i guess its pretty obvious for such a old Manga, the Manga has a pretty high score so i guess there must be something not so average in this show i will wait and see and if i like i maybe pick up the Manga while its airing

ED is pretty solid...

I am not familiar with the manga or the old anime, so I was not sure what I was watching. The most I knew were the things written in the description of this anime. I was mostly attracted by the pretty art.

The white haired boy is so small and cute. Why did he have to be a mouse!

It was so embarrassing when Tooru's tent was discovered. . . But, it was quite hilarious as well.

While the computer-simulated smoke effect is quite beautiful, I think it doesn't blend with the art style of the anime. They should have just drawn it.

I hope this is good. I love the art style of shoujo, but the stories can turn quite boring towards the end. Hope this doesn't do that.

I really dont remember too much about the first animation and lazy to rewatch it but this first impression of the reamke was great.

There are a few thins that are extra.

In general, was nice episode, like it.

First time watching this series and oh man... this art is ugly. It's really really ugly. I've seen pictures of the old show before and that looks fine. Did they really have to make this look like the mess that is modern shoujo? The guys especially are just universally hideous. I have to say the absolute worst character design I've spotted so far is the rat guy. How anyone looks at that twink rodent and says "hot" is a mystery to me.

I'm glad this has sukeban in it, though. The blonde one's giving me gay vibes. Please say they're going to be in every episode. I need them to cleanse the existence of every single male character off of me.

That familiar nostalgia feeling has returned. It's been years since I first watched the original anime and it's really great to see the main cast of Fruits Basket in animation again. =)

The only issues I had with the episode was the slightly quicker than expected pacing and the transformation smoke, although it looks nice, does look a bit out of place, but those are just minor issues for me right now.

The reboot has already done a great job in capturing the charm that the original version had. The visuals look really nice, the animation is also good and the OST used for the first episode itself was very enjoyable.

Special mention to the ED song, which was pleasant and relaxing to listen to. =3

Overall, this was a great start to the 1st season of the reboot. I can't wait for more! =D

Oh, and the great Funimation dub is the cherry on top.
yikes @ people that like bad dubs.

Overall, solid start. I'm s till worried since this is listed as "1st season" and only one cour. Supposed be enough content for around 100 episodes according to most fans of the manga.... I don't want 8 short seasons lol. I want like 3 long ones.

Even though I still like the old version better (maybe because of the ost and VA's dunno) this was AWESOME. Perfectly adapted. I love the art and the pace and the soundtrack is beautiful. The VA's still sound a little bit awkward to me but I'm sure they'll grow on me.:D
The nostalgia almost made me cry, seriously.

It's been the longest while since I felt this emotional while watching anime, missed this feeling!

Honestly, so far it's just what I could only dream of - voice acting is on point, so far I love VA choices for everyone, animation is simple, but artstyle is ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE, and I love it with my whole heart! They improved Yuki a lot compared to first adaptation, by changing his design quite a bit, and giving him male seiyuu.

Gosh, there's no one as pure as my girl Tohru in the whole world!

Also, this scene forshadowed:

Loved it! It brings back memories from when I watched the original for the first time in 2005. ๐Ÿ’™
I watched it dubbed and it's like the VA's only did the previous series 5 minutes ago, they took back to the show like a duck to water which I thought was fantastic.
Loved the ED credits and song, I want more!

This was so much nostalgia! I enjoyed the episode. I think the animation turned out really beautiful and the OST fit very well. The ending is nice as well. I'm just happy to see all these characters again.
I think the new VAs are doing a good job, takes a bit getting used to but I definitely like them all so far. I'm glad to see such a nice adaption of Furuba :)

Well, it's here. First time I'm watching a remake of an anime from the beginning while it's new after having finished the original years ago. Funny thing is that my first experience with Fruits Basket was with the manga, where I read the first volume and then started the 2001 anime. Never finished the manga, though. I also watched the original anime in dub.

Lol at Shigure laughing his ass off when he saw that Tooru Honda lives in a tent. Yep, the guys that live in that house get turned into their animal form for a while when they get hugged by a girl.

Looks like Fruits Basket (2001) is on its way to becoming obsolete, seeing that 2019 will be a complete adaptation this time. It'll be interesting to see people argue about which version is better.

I hope this new adaptation stays amazing! Great first episode IMO. I didn't watch the 2001 version or read the manga, so I'm excited to see what happens next, though I have received a few spoilers since the series is 20-ish years old lol.

Also, I see everyone squealing about how cute Kyo is, but where is the appreciation for rat boy Yuki? He's easily my favorite thus far :)

So this is first season, good. I hope the second season will air in winter.

The ED was really nice. Overall, a good start.

As someone who's entirely new to the series, I'll say that the first episode seems really promising. I'm not an avid shoujo watcher by any means, but dear lord, the art is stunning! The soundtrack, too. This show has lots of things going for it.. I really hope it can deliver :D

It's.. not as good as I remembered. Though, the characters are great. So, it's nice to see it with a fresh coat of paint. Excited to see the next episodes ~

As someone who isn’t a fan of Shoujo, I loved the first episode. So far it has good pacing and hopefully it stays consistent and doesn’t make me lose interest in it. I think what separates fruits basket from most shoujo is the humanization of the characters, and prevents it from being melodramatic and romantic garbage (Like most shoujo, but banana fish made me appreciate the genre). I never read the manga so let’s hope it stays consistent in its pacing.

This new anime goes fast, with a beautiful and detailed animation (except for transformación fog) and the style looks soo bi shonen.
Also emotions get stronger this time because furuba it's soo emotional.

I might cry from nostalgia before the show ends. I was grinning from ear to ear from start to finish and started rewatching the original.

Tohru always made me feel like improving back in the day. Lol. I'm probably gonna have to watch the dub as well just to multiply the nostalgic feel. Gotta hear my boy Kyo call Yuki a rat bastard a million times.

So basically she gonna interact with animal spirits disguised as humans. Reminds me to Kokkuri-san but serious edition.

Such a likable series so far, but the visuals are not that special though. In fact they look early 2000s mixed a bit with a modern atmosphere (a bit though).'But I'm loving the plot so far, great opening episode.

So far it kinda seems like your standard stuff with the fantasy twist with all the major male characters being zodiac spirits but it seems quite interesting.

I've said this on so many forums already, but I have to keep confessing. I watched fruits basket over fifteen years ago, and I was so nervous about this remake. Like anticipation causing me minor aggravation nervous. If this first episode is any indication of how the whole season is going to be, then I can be at ease. I loved the first episode, and it would take a pretty big goof for me to turn and run. This is the animation this story deserved from the start. I will always love the original but there is a good chance this remake is gonna snatch a fond spot in my memories as well.

In all versions and translations, Tohru is such a good girl. I'm so glad we get to experience this story again. Welcome back my dear nostalgia!

It's hard not to compare this early on, but this is definitely a more dramatic interpretation. I miss the comedy of the original, the timing was more hilarious + nothing can top kyo's original guitar solo intro lol. I'm loving Yuki's new voice. I hope they get rid of Tohru's/the girls' permanent blush. It should only be used when needed cos it's a little distracting for me.

Was NOT expecting that flashback with the... hidden face. I'm actually really surprised they would include that this early.

The ost & ED was gorgeous! I loved those cameo appearances, hiding some of their faces is a smart move to get us more hyped. Ugh I'm so READY for the feels train.

Edit: went back and watched the dub. It definitely fixed the comedic timing for me, so it's probably just a language/voice inflection thing. Yuki was much sassier too. Glad they kept the original voices :*)

also, to any manga readers. did this episode have any changes?

At a glance, a few minor changes. Nothing that greatly impacts the story, but would only be noticeable to anyone with a deep eye for comparing things to the manga.

-The brief scene where Tohru's admiring the city scenery before noticing Shigure's house is anime-only.
-When Yuki and Tohru start to walk together after school in the manga, Tohru's briefly intimidated by the Yuki Fan Club girls watching from some trees. This was cut from the anime.
-Tohru having a different set of clothes she wore while resting from her fever (had a kimono in the manga, anime has her dressed in the clothes she later wore when Yuki and Shigure offered her temporary stay at their house).
