Overall: Yes & No! but I will find it a bit silly that someone will dislike a show just for one simple character. -Mastergold School Days is a fucking terrible anime but ironically enough, Makoto isn't even the worst character in it. Literally every single character is an awful, backstabbing, cheating piece of shit. All of them. It's kinda funny when they try to make an MC as terrible as possible...And he fades into the background because he can't even compete with all the side characters lol. |

When I hear about this anime from anime fans, its always about the being different harem stuff, the exaggeration, but never if its a good anime overall or not. The anime was mostly boring. I hated the mood swings from the anime. It was slice of life and then drama, back to slice of life, and then drama. SD was just a deconstruction anime, but I dont think it was a good anime. Makoto was really bland. Why did the chicks even like him? The should have made him look more masculine or given him a more interesting personality, and then I would have understood why. All these chicks just threw themselves at him only because hes the male MC. I also didnt like how everyone was just evil. I know we all have our evil sides, but come on. Not like that. Ill always appreciate that anime because most males in this planet want to be as lucky as Makoto (minus the ending of course) If you want a deconstruction of the harem genre plus being a good anime overall, I recommend White Album (AKA White Album 1) |

Yes, for me characters are the most important thing in my opinion. Even if the story is good, as well as the art and sound (although I'm not big on art and sound at all), then it can make me enjoy the anime far less. A good example of this is Death Note, story was good and interesting, art and sound was good for it's time, but I didn't like any of the characters, they all ranged from meh to annoying in my opinion, which made me enjoy the show far less. |

Really can. Kirito destroyed SAO for me. Haru made Accel world a joke. Whatever his name is killed Gundam Stardust Memory for being one of the most entitled main characters ever. Shuu and the rebel leader dude made Guilty Crown unbearable... admittedly, so did Inori with her weird, autistic-like state 90% of the time. |

ABSOLUTELY! - Danmachi : Maybe it was because of his voice actor (i really don't like Matsuoka), i couldn't stand Bell. BREASTia Hestia being there also did not help. - Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei : Tatsuya and his annoying sister can fall into a ditch and die for all i care. - Aldnoah.Zero : Inaho is probably one of the worst and most boring MC i have ever seen. - Mirai Nikki : Yuuki ruined a good portion of the show for me. - Himouto! Umaru-chan : Despite the rest of the cast being likable characters, Umaru's shitty personality was too much for me to handle. |

Subtle thread is subtle... Fate forum is that way --> There is a shit show shit MC shit franchise thread there every other day, you don't have to be shy. Plot-driven works, or works with an ensemble cast you can dislike the main and still like the show. A work which hinges on a single character, not really. |

The MC can ruin a show for me if liking them is almost essential to the enjoyment. If a show is based on the adventures of what the MC is doing, like things don't move unless the MC does their thing, and you don't like the MC then it can definitely ruin a show. My first thought is Denpa Kyoushi. Right from the start, I thought, "How is that okay? This guy's an asshole, but maybe he'll learn and get better". Unfortunately, the show was attempting to show that he was in the right pretty much at all times, no matter who he hurt, caused to worry, or whatever. One thing I'm just not down for is an MC who always seems to be right in a show. Honestly though, that wasn't the only thing wrong with Denpa Kyoushi, so I don't even know if it's just the MC that ruined the show for me, but it was mainly the MC. Yet with Etotama, I thought the MC was annoying; I still managed to gain a little enjoyment out of the show. It's a lot easier to deal with one person who's just in the main cast but isn't the main MC for a show. Also, I actually really liked Free! up until the last episode because of the entire main cast becoming incredibly annoying at the end, if that counts. |

Yes, yes it can. Hard to get invested in a show if i despise the character with the most screen time. |

I think they do, because since their the MC, you see them alot & then ofc they do things that you don't like. Am i the only one who finds Eren not annoying? Like yeah, sure, Mikasa can deal with it. But thats only because she had to deal with his sh*t since they were kids. I've heard people say he's annoying & I don't find him annoying? Damn, I just went off topic (kindof). |
