Maybe it's just nostalgia from the first series, but I really enjoyed this. I don't remember the MC being such a submissive lazy bitch though. He needs to man the fuck up.

This seemed - rather dull for a first episode.

It also moved so slowly, I can't figure out what the show is actually about.

Did we really need a cat-girl in an otherwise realistic setting (+ horror elements)?

I'll come back for the next episode, if just for curiosity's sake.

Wow, this turned out much better than I thought. It's been a long time since I've enjoyed an episode this much. As expected from the director of Katanagatari. I'm especially glad they retained the tone of the previous series. The MC character could have been better though. Hopefully he'll get better over the course of the show.

Different world, different rules. It looked like most of the people in the village had tails of one sort or the other. I'm already thinking I have to fit in a marathon of the first season after seeing this episode...

So is this set after the events of Utawarerumono? Only played the VN and I am hesitant to pick this up.

I love the relative lack of fanservice (despite cat-girls) and Kuon's personality. She saved him, no sweat. And the peeping troop even got reversed. XD

Also, a lazy, whiney, but smart MC? It's been a while.

I was lulled into a sense of SoL, but it did have some interesting things that I'm sure will be built on later on. Animation looks pretty good, probably better than S1. I think I will enjoy this~

Going in blind on this one as well, and I just have to say that I really enjoyed it. The setting and world is amazing, I loved the atmosphere this episode. Some calm slice of life moments, yet we know that shit is gonna go down eventually. Definitely need to check out the first Utawarerumono anime.

I remember so little from the original anime, apart from the tail pulling. Glad this kept it.

Apart from Kuon, it wasn't very impressive. Then again I remember the original series starting slowly and ending up in crazy land, so I'm obviously sticking with it.

The bath scene was hilarious and that ending, lol, it scared me.

Great job, I'm expecting a lot of adventure and YEY! 25 EPISODES AND NOT SPLIT-COUR!!!

Were we supposed to watch the other series? I didn't even know there was one until literally just now when I came in this forum. They didn't exactly shout about its existence.

Anyway, how long did it take Kuon to realise that Haku isn't good at physical stuff??? Was she hoping he'd suddenly get buff if he tried to lift a different heavy item? Maybe she's just dumb af.

This is going to be fate/zero all over again won't it? With anime onlies coming into this without watching the actual first season, spoiling themselves and being completely confused.

Great episode, love the callbacks to the previous show and the gears are already turning in my head on how this connects to what we know from original.

10-20 years after. Its a sequel. the third game(and most likely the anime) will be conclusion of trilogy.

Yes Itsuwari No Kamen is direct sequel to the original Utawarerumono. It expects you to know shit from the original Utawarerumono.

Destiny, politics and war tactics, mainly.

If you bothered to watch the series this is a sequel to you would know why those elements are there.

I'm going to enjoy this a lot...

I had no idea where this series would go until I heard about the original and watched the PV. I was screaming at the MC to be manly because Kuon was so much stronger than him. It's been a while since I seen a lazy MC but the chemistry is going to be so good.

Have a feeling this is going to be SoL for the first half with some dark vibes and then go straight to all the crazy revelations on the second cour (one after another). I want to see Haku's chara development...

Seems very similar to the first series so far, so I can live with this slow start as it's bound to go somewhere very unexpected later on, especially if its structure is in any way similar to that of the original series. I don't especially like that the MC is really lazy and submissive though, but I'm sure that'll change as well as the series goes on. I wonder how that curse thing from the start will impact things, assuming it does at all. Cos I doubt they just lobbed it in at the start like that just for the sake of it.

Good start.

Interesting start. The guy seems to be wearing a hospital gown, so maybe he's from our world?
Kuon is also a pretty likable main heroine, and the chemistry between them looks good.
If I remember correctly the first series also started by focusing on just a simple small village, but the events that happened caused things to escalate that soon everything that happened reached a much larger stage. Definitely a series to keep watching out for.

good first episode, sets the stage, we get to learn a little bit.
it doesn't bombard you with information and it gives you some food to look at (made me hungry so im eating yogurt now)
also kuon and haku are doing well
haku means white in japanese, so im pretty sure kuon is a closet white supremacist /sarcasm

Nice. Haku's pretty fun and good to see he's smart in the practical way. Can't wait to find out more about his past.

Kuon is cute. I noticed she has 2 sentences she keeps repeating "Nanikakana" and "I'm his guardian" since this is Taneda Risa I'm getting "Iie senpai" StB vibes so PLZ NO!! I just hope she doesn't keep repeating them. It's cute for now but not if it gets overused.

The peaking on Haku in the bath with her tail reations was so lol

hmm clarify something. If you watched the previous season, you should know the haku's suit and where he comes from.
the name Kuou has its japanese meaning itself, and also she said this journey may be the last chance to do it in the limit of time.

And yes, its second season and the time zone is based on the first season after the Seal of hakoro.

The OST was really good too. It gave off this mystical fantasy feel to it. Just my type.

Though the cat girl is a pervert? omg never expected that.

and the show is 25 episodes? I'm sold.

Utawarerumono is more about politics and war. It is essentially a war drama in a fantasy world, intermixed with slice of life.

Well, the first game/anime focused more on the war and politics area, but from all I've seen of the game this one's based on, there's noticeably more focus on the adventure part and if there's war/politics it'll be in the upcoming game as this one serves more as part 1 of a whole "Utawarerumono 2", so to speak. So yeah, there should definitely be a fair amount of adventure in this one.

It has similar focus on adventure as the first one did
, but there's focus on the war and politics themes too.

And yeah, this is more like a "Part 1"
