I checked it out again today, and no, they seem to be like any normal MAL user. They're just a bit more on the slow slide, even when compared to the average MAL user. I see a lot more emoticons too -- i.e. :3, ^_^, ;p, O_o etc. But yeah, I really dislike the layout they're going for on that site anyways. |

As a user of MyAnimeList, Hummingbird, and AniList (I don't use AniList that much), I have come to say that Hummingbird's community is a little more mature than MAL. That's just my opinion and how I see it, feel free to disagree with me. Just don't be a dumb bass on Hummingbird. |

Well put it this way: if I make a thread here about MAL's idiotic members - I'd be sure to collect a nifty little ban, on the other hand - I do it on Hummingbird, and everyone has a lovely circle jerk with no reprocusions.. this is sadly true. A whole lot of them are ex-MAL members, and they love to hate on MAL. There's this sort of elitism there that goes on in which Hummingbird members are superior to MAL members. It's pretty annoying, if you ask me. Especially since I can hardly differentiate the two now. AnalOnFirstDate said: not to mention 99.9% of people there don't know what ad hominem is holy shit this gets me every time. Ad hominem arguments are fucking arguments, not insults. You learned that in high school, stop bringing up to prove something if you don't even know what it means. Yeah. Hummingbird used to be nicer, but it's becoming more like MAL. It's a boring place anyway. The layout is shit too. Lot's of trolls/banned users recently. |

well, i will speak as someone whose used HB for years, actually left MAL for it(now im considering permanently coming back). In regards to anime, alot of the users just seem like they dont like anything, and nothing will ever satisfy them. This makes talking to alot of them feel pointless, because they never acknowledge any points that are apposed to their own. Unfortunately, alot of people give them alot of authority(not the staff, i mean people hold their opinions in extremely high regards), so dont be surprised if you hear "this anime sucks because this person said so". There are also alot of people obsessed with being considered of "good taste" when none of that shit actually matters, and those people i always end up losing respect for. If i need to lie(lie about my own opinion) in order to gain someone elses respect, then its not respect worth having to me. Its actually a really stressful atmosphere, because alot of people there take things way too seriously. Its actually gotten to the point where they want to delete reviews that arent to their liking, "thats too simple, not worthy of being a review", i just wish they would chill out. Im not saying they are bad people, they just arent the kind of fans i want to hang out with. Heck, they even got me to start thinking that enthusiasm regarding anime amongst the community is dead, because the enthusiasm on that site has to be the lowest i have ever seen. Sorry, im kind of using this thread to vent away my frustrations from people there. Bottom line, i cant speak for this sites friendliness yet(i havent been active here in a while), but i can definitely say that HB isnt very friendly to people who are just looking to express their love for anime. Granted, one might not think this if they only make an intro thread on HB, because intro threads do get nice responses. Its the threads regarding anything else where you start getting that feeling. Anyway, sorry this was so long |

The thing that has always got me off Hummingbird is that it lacks any kind of self-criticism, it's circlejerk after circlejerk not even taking into account that they are as immature, irregular and full of shit as any other community. Many people seem to believe that trolling, shitposting and etc. is not a reality there when actually there's plenty of. I mean, MAL can be quite dense and/or shitty but people are perfectly aware of it and that alone grows a completely different environment that is more favorable for user interaction. |

People from both sites gets equally defensive when people from either site bashes on the other. Like these sites defines their identity or something. For me, I use both sites and I don't think either site is necessarily better and I don't feel any kind of attachment to either site. One of the pros of Hummingbird is that you can call JD a crayon eating mouthbreather and not get banned for it. So there's pros and cons for both sites. |

Who the hell bumped this shit just to talk shit about a site that barely even exists anymore? On the other hand, I respect TAS. I don't always agree with his opinions, but IMO the cancer to anime discussions are: 1. "Just an opinion." Don't bother trying to talk to these people. They're just there to post their own opinion and ignore you. 2. "Intended audience." If you don't like a show, you're not the intended audience, and you're not judging the show for what it's supposed to be. If you do like the show, then you are the intended audience. By this logic, every single show ever made is 10/10. 3. "Just enjoy it." People who are actively engaged with a medium and can point out flaws that cause discord with them apparently aren't enjoying it. It's like watching a basketball game and pretending that every single player are Kobe clones. By this logic also, every single show ever should be 10/10 if you're an anime fan. 4. "100% knowledge required to judge." This criticism is selectively doled out when it's convenient, since we all know that we don't actually need to watch and read all of 50 Shades of Grey and all of its derivative material in order to know whether we'd enjoy it. Critics that understand the above points restore some points to the childish anime community. |
