Quite a different feeling this episode. I like it though with the pace. I think their little trip is more like a discovery. I like how they help that woman out although they do earn a beating this episode. Boxing out there in the open, wow.

What an episode of flashback. Awesome.

Yayyyy! I'm over the moon they are animating this, I really really enjoyed it in the manga. Kamogawa = Ippo, Neko = Miyata, pretty much, one is a tough bastard and the other is the better technical boxer. Nice to see Dankichi as well! And Miguel Zale, Bryan Hawk's old coach.

Yay!! My fav arc is finally getting adapted :D

Perfect way to end the season ^^

Totally loved Kamogawa and Nekota fighting it out and then landing a punch on Ippo XD

They really are such close friends ^^ And how Nekota was saying Kamogawa could have easily been a world champion if boxing tournaments were international at the time.

Flashback is awesome so far. Yuki is so damn cute <3<3

Like Kamogawa said, anybody would fall for her >.<

Loved the part where they got owned by the soldier protecting her and how Nekota decided to live with Kamogawa so he can live with Yuki XD

Their reactions to Yuki saying she loves sunflowers was so lol. Damn she's adorable though ^^

Can't wait til they start training to fight the Soldier. Gonna be epic animated :D

Oh man the fights are going to be awesome, truly awesome. I'm actually glad they didn't animate it at the start and left it to end the season, it's really fitting. This will make this season trump New Challenger for sure.

Wow this was a really nice episode with the historical background, it really reminded me of Rainbow. It was brutal back in those days.

It is nice that they are animating this but it would have made more perfect sense if they did this in new challenger not just because of being more faithful to the manga but for other reasons. Like Miguel Zale is in it as Anderson's translator and trainer and that Anderson's personality compliments Hawk more than Eagle.

But it is also funny in the boxer's road mode of Hajime no Ippo 2 Victorious Road, you can unlock a Ralph Anderson III sometime in the late 1990s.

But other than that, I really do love the voice acting. Kosugi Jutaro with his deep voice does a great job as Anderson so far by sounding scary and complimenting the character's big build (I believe in the manga, he was a welterweight). I also love how Miyano Mamoru does a great job as young Kamogawa. The anime makes Kamogawa combining Miyata's self-imposed isolation and of a perfectionist along with Ippo's power and work ethic. Try to imagine a boxer with Itagaki's speed and agility with Sendo's wildness and brawling and you get the young Nekota as a boxer. Yuki sounds more spunkier that I personally could imagine and I think she does great.

But it's funny I found out Anderson's weakness in the first PS2 game before I read this story in the manga.

Getting a real Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin vibe now. It's weird how strangely similar HNI and Rainbow are even though they're 2 almost completely different kinds of anime.

Meh. I don't like flashbacks very much. I am now trying to struggle when the original story took place now now considering how old these guys are after WWII.

I just don't like stories like this very much.

I was really hoping this season would end with an Ippo fight, but well, we had our share of awesome fights in Rising :D I see many of you were expecting this story, glad it was delivered. I don't get how Nekota's nose became so funny tho lol

By the ending I'm guessing this will be a 2 parts probably? pheww... finally today I catched up with HNI, now I'm curious about this Rainbow you guys mention... hmmm

Ecstatic that we're ending the season with this arc. I cannot even begin to tell you all how much I enjoyed this one in the manga. Even though the Sawamura fight really had me hooked, this flashback knocked my socks off. Cannot wait!

It's more the other way around actually.

Mamoru Miyano works really well as young Kamogawa. I'm liking his performance here.

Ok, so this is about Genj &i Ginpachi's flashback story, where it was set after WW2 which Japan lost the war, so why the fuck do them damn illustrators messed up the way how a G.I Military police suppose to look like? Geez, don't them illustrators ever do their research as to what a WW2 GI solder looks like?

For them, they obviously were the bad guys as they were the ones they fought against. Also the whole story about the Emperor being perfect in every way and how humiliating even an idea to lose the War was according to their current believes/customs at that time. Very odd/unfamiliar to us now. :D

why wouldn't they act that way? You're making the mistake of looking at events from the perspective of someone living 70 years later, rather than from the perspective of the characters.

Nekota and Kamogawa are young japanese men, and the war just ended. From where they sit, their emperor declared America their enemies, America then bombed them, defeated them, and now occupies them, adding to their humiliation. Obviously from their perspective they're the victims and America is the bad guys.

They clearly get over the bias once time passes and more is learned. Kamogawa doesn't seem particularly biased against anyone, and Daikichi even lives in the US in the future.

great episode, man if the series had been just about those 2 back in the 1940's i guarantee you they would have a shit ton of favorites on this site, i look foreword to the likely sad outcome this arc will have

Though since the events of the present are pretty much guarenteed to be over i have to say this was easily, my favorite part of the series so far, its getting a very enthusiastic 9/10
