| NO. Gah. Kyo-Ani, why waste an entire anime season on this! I want something new, not a sequel of a mediocre series! Won't this be airing right after the Tamako Market sequel, too? I mean, I don't mind the Chuni-byo love, because that show has substance...but Free? Although, I have to admit I saw this coming. The last episode of Free! definitely hinted at it with the "See you next summer" thing at the end. Not to mention that this anime sells. However, needless to say, I will not be watching this. It's a shame. |

You answered it for yourself later in the comment. It sells. Certainly not a waste for them, Free makes the cash. But no, Tamako Market sequel is a film so it won't be airing after that. |

TV anime, especially during off seasons like Winter and Summer is largely about having the right skin and package and hitting the right niche demographics nowadays, not telling complete stories or tackling issues the characters face as an ongoing narrative. The shows that are supposed to be the counter to this approach sadly seem to fall into a lot of the same pitfalls at least from where I'm sitting so yeah TV anime continuing to not look so good when it comes to Winter and Summer. Ditto. Why risk putting effort on a series than could flop than using an existing formulaic approach. Who doesn't love a money-making machine? Nowadays anything that comes out on MAL will get bashed anyway regardless of what it is. Not exactly true, not everything gets bashed on MAL, but I'd be lying if I said I felt the criteria most people appear to use had anything to do with whether a show is actually good or not in the traditional sense so much as it pushes the right buttons at least some of the time. If anything I find MAL is way to easily pleased by most things on average and doesn't seem to ask for much out of anime, but yeah there are those things that seem to be doomed to going under the radar or getting trashed right out of the gate and sadly most of the time those are the shows I tend to find turn out to actually be kind of good in the long run. This hype based industry model though is definitely good for studios like Kyoani and producers like Aniplex that's for sure. It sure as hell makes their jobs a hell of a lot easier in the long run. |
| I'm ashamed to say I enjoyed it, but hopefully they concentrate more on the swimming then their boring teen problems. And after the terrible Kyoukai no Kanata they gave us last season, I can understand why they'll play it safe for their next production. |

Hell, I don't even think most gay people would be as flamboyant as the Frees. The homosexual undertones exist and they are very blatant. Although kind of like Strike Witches with the 'no pants' thing its self-aware enough that it adds a sort of ridiculous charm to the show rather than just coming off as pandering. I mean, why would you even bother making a show about an all male swimming team without gay undertones? |

I know Fujoshi series sells like crazy, but this is even beyond that. This has managed to attract attention even from the previously Anti-free crowd in a positive light, along with PLENTY of Female viewers. |
