 An anime adaptation of spy novel Joker Game written by Koji Yanagi has been green-lit, according to the September issue of Kadokawa's Monthly Newtype magazine. The TV anime adaptation will be directed by Kazuya Nomura and produced by Production I.G. Original character designs will be made by Shirow Miwa. The novel has been previously adapted into a live-action film that premiered on January 31, 2015.Koji Yanagi is known for having written other fictional novels in his mid-twenties with his debut work, Ogon no hai (The Golden Ash) in 2001. His novel Joker Game, published in 2008, earned him a Mystery Writers of Japan award in 2009. The novel also spawned sequels including Double Joker and Paradise Lost. Synopsis Taking place in the year 1937 on the eve of World War II, the story involves a mysterious spy training organization known as the "D Agency." The organization is established by Lieutenant Colonel Yuki from the Imperial Japanese Army. His ideals lead him to recruit people beyond military academy graduates and personnel, while training them to become skilled agents in arts of manipulation. These agents would become a specialized team to conduct operations. One such antihero agent, under the name Jiro Kato, goes on a harrowing mission to uncover secret documents titled "Black Notes," while battling forces from within and without his own ranks. | Very interesting premise imo and I have high hopes for this coming from one of my favorite studios. Hopefully, this will air in Winter or Spring. Never seen the live action film or read the novels though but I am interested. |

| the male lead in the live-action movie is my fav Japanese actor ever! well I didn't see the movie yet cause the DVD release is in August so I'm going to watch it ASAP when the DVD comes out xD anyway didn't except an anime for it LOOL and I.G !!! It looks promising with them and the story is interesting and suitable for both live-action & anime adaptions! I wonder what will be better the live-action or the anime or both xD |

| Nice, most novel adaptations usually turn out to be pretty good, last one I remember was shin sekai yuri which is one of my favorites of the last 5 years, Premise sounds interesting ,waiting to see more. |
| Seems like something decent, for a change. At the very least, the premise makes it interesting, and they'd have to put some real effort to make me regret giving it a try. |

Doesn't make it great as a work, makes it good as an anime. Also consider manga isn't made for western audiences so what's common to people outside of Japan is of literally zero importance. Japan's relationship to WW2 is certainly going to be different from anyone else's and I can't recall a lot of media of any kind being made on the subject. |
