When you were in school, did you bring your own lunch from home or did you eat school food?

Personally, i preferred bringing my own lunch from home. I was a very picky eater as a kid and would genuinely prefer to starve then try new foods.

We're freaking out that we're running out of time, but to do what? Should i stop and think of that? Is there something i could do to slow it down? Live in a day for once, instead of watch it sprinting by

My own lunch. My mother didn't want me or my sister to eat whatever they were serving. It all looked like hospital meals and was way too expensive for what it was.

Both kinda sorta?

My parents would pack a lunchbox for me to have at first break time.

But my School did do School dinners for us all later on in the school day. And they were more than edible... except for Pineapples with custard or Bread & Butter Pudding, they were absolutely vile, dreaded the days were had those.

Huh. I've never heard of school dinner. Every school i've been to had one lunch break.

I ate the food at school, and honestly the food was pretty good and fresh compared to the abominations I see online.

All the way from Elementary to now in High School, it was consistent. Thanks my school district.

I only went to school through 5th grade (I was homeschooled for the rest of it), but I usually brought food from home. Occasionally they'd have food that I liked and would buy, but from what I can remember, bringing a packed lunch was my norm.
I'm either crashing out or fujoing out.

I packed a lunch most of the time, but me and my friends who bought theirs from the cafeteria would share with each other. The school food was pretty good at the time, not gonna lie.

I did a bit of both in elementary school. School used to give out a calendar at the beginning of the month with what the menu would be, & if I didn't like what was on there I'd just bring something in. + Some of the stuff they had was just nasty. Now when I got to Jr. High & High School I ate what was served in the cafeteria. Food was much better starting in Jr. High so there was no need to bring anything.

I was so poor that the welfare system of my country allowed me to eat at the cafeteria for free. I definitely would not have been able to eat lunch otherwise.

50:50, in middle school it was okayish and I rather brought my own lunch.
In high school we had our own industry kitchen in the house, because we had cooking lessons and so too. The meals were pretty cheap and good, sometimes cooked by ourselves.

I always brought my lunch from home. The only time I can remember eating what the school served was on a handful of occasions where the school was offering something special for some kind of event or holiday, and I wanted to have it.

School lunches were rather varying in quality... There usually were 2 options each day, but either had to pick A or B for the full month, or hope that they didn't run out of one of them when you could pick when you showed up.
And the worst part was when we had 7 or 8 classes in a day, and then had to eat lunch in a break, there was just not enough time...
School buffet had some delicacies, but that also suffered from availability and time issues.

When I was a kid I had a lot of trouble because I didn't like the caterer food. So, they made a remark and my mom was kinda forced to make my lunch. During high school, it kinda depended on the days.

We usually bought a gyros and then ate it during lecture.
There was one cafeteria like restaurant, but it was kind of far away from our classes.

Nope, cafeteria lunch all the way from kindergarten to senior year.

To this day I still remember the menu names:

Monday Special, a selection of foods from around the World, every half semester a new Country would be "the guest of honor" from kindergarten to senior year, we had food from France, Italy, Spain, Thailand etc.

Tuesday Tacos.

Veggie Wednesday. Yuck Rabbit food. There was a non vegetarian option available, with soup and some kind of meat thing, guess which menu was the most popular that day? It wasn't the Rabbit food that's for sure😄

Thursday Meat Fest & Turkey Thursday: The name says it all really, this day was the most popular one in the entire week😆😁😄

In the days they had Venison, Turkey and real Hamburgers you had to be there early, really early because everyone wanted seconds😅😆😅 and you didn't want to be at the end of the queue and have cold food.

In the days the menu was Hot Dogs me and my friends would usually skip it and go hungry, who wanted to put a wiener inside their mouths? Not us for sure!😂

Friday Surprise. Don't ask me what the surprise was, because after 35+ years I still haven't have a single clue what was inside that dish.😅
Me every time I hear the word "reparations": 🤣🤣🤣

Neither, we used to go to nearby fast-food restaurants for our lunch. Also, my weekly allowance wasn't very high so my classmates would often end up buying me food just so we can all hang out together. Embarrassing times, those were.

I have an inner 50s housewife in me and sometimes she comes to day- or moonlight, when hearing about fast food at school. And that's why I think all schools should have cooking lessons and self-made school food.
The classes at high school took turn with cooking. Every other Wednesday it was our call and best two days of the month.

In primary schools there aren't usually cafeterias. We had to bring vegetables, bread, cheese, spread etc. for the class pantry and made our own lunch with with whatever we liked to eat at that moment.
We had a little kitchen with a stove we were allowed to use with a teacher in the room at ca. 9, 10 yo and every 3rd and 4th grade class had their own little garden too, where we grew carrots, herbs etc.
But my primary school was near a forest and had a wide field, so we had room to do all that

I was on free lunch until my senior year of high school so I would get lunch and breakfast at school. At least in middle school Monday thru Thursday they had after school clubs that would meet and they would feed you a snack. The lunch ladies would usually pack us up the leftovers to take home for dinner.

I ate the cafeteria food because my parents never packed me lunch because there wasn't much time or food around to prepare I guess. Besides, school lunch was free for us at the school I went to so we saved up a bit on food lol. I would have been completely fine with this past elementary school if it weren't for one thing: The food was usually turbo ass. You HAD to lower your standards to the depths of the Hadal zone if you wanted the school lunch to even be remotely edible. In elementary school the food was fine, quite delicious (at least by my standards lol) actually!

But once in middle school that shit was almost intolerable. The fruit and other sides were alright, but the main food was almost always complete ass. From pasta with a layer of white, plastic-looking cheese at the top to egg burgers that made McDonald's look like a five star restaurant, it was just complete ass! I still had to eat it, because otherwise I'd starve. Fortunately, the last two years of high school had a slight increase in quality, and I found myself even enjoying some of it (maybe because I got used to it lmao). I also started bringing lunch from home those years, too.

So my dad had to pay child support and his baby's mamma just lived off of that child support instead of doing anything with her life. My dad's child support check was the only income for the baby's mamma, my dad's son, the baby's mamma's two other kids, and her husband (who also wasn't doing anything with his life). So my mom stretched the truth and said we took care of not only me, my brother, my dad, and herself, but all of the people in that house too. So putting on paper that there were nine people in a household with only two middle class incomes to support everyone made us look super poor. At first we just paid a small fee for each meal, but eventually my big brother and I were able to eat cafeteria food for free every day.
Only thing was that since we didn't have to spend on a meal, we'd buy little sweets to go with the meals instead... so we got pretty fat. The cafeteria food itself at the time wasn't very healthy those days either (pizzas and burgers). And then almost every weekend, since we weren't really allowed to cook/couldn't reach the stove, my dad would bring us McDonald's at lunch then rush back to work... and sometimes for dinner too if my parents were too tired after work.;; In the end, though not directly, they pretty much were actually supporting two households after all. That child support check was a lot taken out of our household each month, and they'd have to make up for it with a lot of overtime. I do appreciate all their hard work over the years.

In junior college and university, I usually cooked/prepared my own food and brought it in a little cooler. If I didn't have time then I'd buy lunch on campus or at nearby food places.

for the final year of elementary (1996-1997) and junior high (1999-2000) when the school was still into my little town and easy to reach by walking, when i had afternoon lessons i still returned home for lunch during a 1 hour break (from 1 to 2 PM). During high school (that was in a bigger city and needed a train trip to be reached) cafeterias didn't exist, so if i had extra classes for failing subjects and was forced to return after lunch, i just brought food from home as vending machines didn't offer enough. Rarely, i went to some smaller pizza restaurant along the way back from school to the train station, alone or with my best friend / classmate / neighbor, especially if it was after a really long morning of lessons from 8 AM to 1:40 PM (one day during my third year, two during the fourth and three for the fifth and final... it seemed like a torture) because there was no train available to return home until 2:40 PM and we really couldn't wait that long for eating something.

I usually ate when I was back home from primary school - middle school - highschool, aswell as for most of the time I wasn't eating during the school days.
At college I sometimes go to cafeteria check out what interesting they have or to the chemistry field which building is in front of mine, as they have nice quality of food, I can't do the same as I did through years as I am at college way longer than I was at school before as in some days I am coming back from lectures/subjects at 19-20 o'clock.

When it was mainly school provided, yes, occasionally I would eat the cafeteria food or bring something from home. Towards the upper grades, no cause the food quality from cafeterias appeared less. Luckily schools had two options: cafeteria or buy from a student store (assortment of candy, junk food and contracted-fast food ie, subway/pizza hut/ hot Pockets). By the end, just didn't eat really. Ate Sour patch kids for a semester instead of food.

When in elementary school my mom will pack me up a sandwich and water which was all I needed. I remember sitting at the park slide reading manga while eating my sandwich. Once I got into middle school though I had to carry a lot of books and stuff so I decided that I didn't want to carry food anymore so I would just get the cafeteria food
