Yes, my current employment pays well but its pretty limiting the longer you stay with it which has come to a head now. I'm not sure what happened to my motivation, so I've been going with bear-necessities. Besides that, seems to be a good year for tv/movies.
A few reasons to your why's in the first part: Chinadaily, "left-leaning news media"-- regardless, its state-run aka state approved. There is no real political parties in China. Its more than arguably, all the same party really. The reason you can use a "Western" source to critique the "West" (more directly a US source to critize US policy) is precisely because they're not state-run. For example, China's media was claiming in January of 22 that they still had 0 covid deaths after 2020, while many other countries media outlets were allowed to put up. True, having a free press and market gives way to opinion shows framed as news, so helping drive up the nation's polarity. Yet, they can atleast report pieces like you've linked, calling out their own government. This near complete control of government by one ideology (the irony part revisted as promised), surpassing poltical parties is also why "left/right" in the context of China is like "Bush/Bush" (USA presidents) to me.
To the second part, hegemony are still hegemonic, even if you ignore them in your own yard and don't disagree with your labeling the USA as one. I do push back on the notion the "west" is somehow worse than those that restrict, when their own societal pillars are allowed to be used against it
It's not because I don't trust a state-run media, it's because you people don't trust a state-run media. I simply want to convince you people so I have to put some little bit effort to it. For me myself? I trust Chinadaily 100%. But what's the point of posting the news if it just to convince myself and not others?
Criticizing the government is allowed in China. SCMP from time to time published anti-China news.
There is no "left and right" in China yes, and it's better like that. Because having it like the "liberal vs conservative" like USA, you can have a policy by a democrat when they're ruling (like ObamaCare) and then being repealed when the opposition wins, hindering any progress at all.
What I mean is that if other countries (that isnt #1 world economy, police, military bases whatsoever) smearing US with the purpose to catching up to them and ending their oppression to keep those countries poor, then I won't said these said countries as "hegemonic".
The thing is, you can only criticize, but you can't do anything to stop it or to make an actual change, which makes it pointless. Your voices will be like silent raindrops fell. Just look how people were protesting to "Defund the police" during BLM protests of George Floyd. Biden is now funding police even more than Trump was and there's nothing that these protesters can do about it. Whereas in China, there are hundreds of thousands of protests happen yearly and that their government are receptive enough to address the people's pleas so that they have high approval rate.
Oh, and also, the government of NATO countries sometimes even fits better of your description of being "restrictive" and "suppressive" than China. Do you know that a Latvian YouTuber got arrested for his pro-Russia sentiments on his videos? And it's not even an ideology, it's merely an opinion. The CPC only suppress dangerous, counterrevolutionary ideologies that seek to overthrow it, but not some mere different opinions.

Yeah they seemed to have deleted it. Well, thank YOU for the wonderful effort posts instead. I'm more into philosophy than politics so I don't get into CE scuffles much, but your posts help to orient myself better with the more complicated topics that have many moving parts so I appreciate it. Glad to see you're posting again!
Man, it's pretty unreal that it's been almost a whole year now and we're still having to talk about this. Most MALers has an infantile view when it comes to this but some are just malicious like Nyu and the second kind I wish would just disappear. But since that's not possible the 2nd best approach is rebutting I suppose... Shame.
Thanks for pointing out the potential dog-whistles btw. I wasn't taking what he says at face value anyway but clearly laying out the implications behind the rhetoric is for the best. If only he was more explicit and got heaved off the platform already.
well that war was bound to happen at some point, it was kinda the normal thing back an both countries were ruled by military dictators who both saw each other as threats, the difference was that Chile was prepared for war unlike Peru who went through economical depression at that point, even if Bolivia has not given the excuse to Chile to invade its highly unlikely that they d ve let that golden opportunity to remove Peru from the picture go to waste
things only started to calm down about a 100 years later after the fall of chilean right wing dictator Pinochet an peruvian left wing dictator Velasco
in the end it could ve been worse, Chile committed some of the worst war crimes South America ever saw but it wasn't nearly as bad as the dowright genocide that Brazil, Argentina an (LOL) Uruguay committed against Paraguay
Hey, I just wanted to point out the error in your math. There is no need to take it personally. If you hadn't insisted on being correct, the argument would have ended there.
But seriously, please refrain implying other people just lack understanding the next time you make a mistake. It is rather poor sport.
The reason I mention my educational background is simply to point out that you don't need to explain basic concepts to me.
Since you are willing to discuss this, let's go back to the statement in your post I objected to.
Silverstorm said: And just cause something is highly likely makes it just as likely to be false--if you're using stats to determine probability.
Now please explain to me in what logic does this claim make any sense? Last time I asked you said it was because correlation does not equal to causation but... Neither correlation nor causation equals likelihood (nor probability) either, so this is a complete non-sequitur.
In the first place, in a binary distribution the sum of the probability being true and the probability being false must always equal 1. This also applies to likelihood. As 'highly likely' refers to typically more than 50% certainty, it is mathematically impossible for the false probability to be equal to it. This is literally the very basics of probabilistics.
So from a logical standpoint... you're full of BS.
I'm not continuing the argument on the thread because I don't wish to embarrass you any further than you've already done yourself. However, what I do wish to say is my sincerest wish for you to stop trying to misrepresent statistics, when you clearly don't understand the material. I'm saying this as someone with a legitimate university degree on a related field. To me it frankly seems like you're just throwing concepts around without properly understanding them and then trying to pass your faulty logic off as it just being too fancy for the other person to grasp to save your own face when you get called out.
If you wish to actually learn the concepts, feel free to PM me. It irks me to see math and probabilistics misrepresented, so I would not mind explaining the parts you find unclear.

We should seek other sources of energy.
