Anyone prefers marathoning, instead of watching on a weekly base...? And is there just too much to follow at the same time?

I'm not sure when exactly I almost completely abandoned watching currently airing stuff, and instead choose to pick certain "original author", or director, and just watch anime that originated from them.

I used to pick several shows in season, and follow them, but unfortunately, very quickly waiting for one week to see the next episode, especially if it was heavy on story, it just started to feel like a chore, even if it was actually very decent title at worst.
There was also thing about quality, slowly, but surely, I started to just wait for anime to completely be available on Blu-ray.

Eventually, I would from time to time only catch up with some never-evending weekly shonens, maybe see few following episodes through next few weeks, and/or put it aside until more episodes came out, so I could marathon them at my own pace.

Then, few years ago, when I decided to watch entire (okay, not entire entire, since there are still some old specials that aren't translated, and I didn't watch last 10 or so episodes of second season of Dragon Ball Kai) Dragon Ball series, including specials, OVAs, and movies in order of release.

Of course, there wouldn't be anything weird, or out of ordinary, that I didn't actually decide to watch in exact order, something I don't believe anyone else bothers to do.

For example, the first Dragon Ball thing, outside series, to come out was Dragon Ball Movie 1: Shen Long no Densetsu, which, according to date of release, aired first between episodes 43 and 44; so once I saw episode 43, I would first see the movie, and then continue with series until next movie, or special, or OVA, and so on...

And the thing was, I actually loved it, it just felt right and correct, many movies were obvious to be based around episodes that aired at the time.
The only thing that saddens me is that Dr. Slump, and some other Toriyama's titles still aren't translated.

That kind of approach to watching made watch other anime, or series, whatever, in that manner, choose author, check dates of airing, and watch in order of release.

Currently I'm focused on Toshio Maeda's stuff, and pnce I'm finished, I'll start with Buronson's (known for Hokuto no Ken) as well.

Watching on a weekly basis...
I mean it has its good sides, like being up to date, and easier to talk to other people about current airing episodes, but at the same time, like I already mentioned, quality is often worse than release on disc, censored, and it's really annoying to wait for a week between episodes, sometimes longer due special events.

Enjoy in thread.

JESUS CHRIST I'm not gonna read all of that lol.

For the topic I've never watch more than 2 anime at times so guess I prefer marathoning.Since it's easier to focus on one show rather than watching weekly, but marathoning also has disavantage, one of them is you cant join the discussion between people who watch weekly.

I used to be marathoning but not anymore.I only watch 1-3 episodes a day because my studying.

You could have finished an entire episode instead of typing all of that.

And watch however the hell you want to. I used to marathon too but realized watching currently airing stuff is the best way to complete a dozen titles in a few months.

The only anime that I let accumulate with the intention to marathon later is One Piece

I rarely pick up more than 5 seasonals so i don't have a problem keeping up with them.

i usually marathon every Anime that i watch "unless i dont like the show so much". Like i watched Fairy Tail, Bleach, Naruto, One Piece i binge watched them all without watching anything else in the process.
As for seasonal anime. i cant stand the wait between the episodes so i wait until the full show has aired and watch it after that.

Watching with that approach is hard because of all the variety of stuff they produced. It's better for me to pick a setting that I find interesting and get to it. I do hear words from fans but they can only bait to get me down to it.

Some animes are marathonable, others are best to consume in small batches.

When I am binge watching I try to watch various titles not episodes only from one title.

I like watching anime at a rate of 1-6 episodes per day. I feel the most comfortable that way. Too many once a week anime and I won't have much time for watching older anime.

Binge watching is just more gratifying. And gives me a whole different sense of the story; why rewatching is crucial in my opinion. I do this with manga too despite me being more dedicated to weekly reads.

But I'll admit some comedies and episodic shit that has no real through line is perfectly fine as a weekly watch.

Only marathon for me babyyyyy. Found the waits between weekly episodes rather tiring.

Binging made me feel more engrossed in the story and characters, for reasons I am yet to understand (as long as the particular anime has my preferred genres).

Plus, the best place to check for discussions is on that series' subreddit, where many conduct rewatch threads to discuss in detail. You'll also find people willing to discuss despite ages after the anime ended.

MAL is most of the time cancer when it comes to discussions in particular. More of shitting at other's tastes, talking at others instead of talking to others etc etc.

Marathoning is waaay more convenient.

And I have the feeling I would've absolutely lost my shit waiting for the next episode of Kaiji to air rather than watching them in one go (Plus I endured the endless 8 when it was airing so that also makes waiting for new episodes less appealing for me)

I also marathon.
Letting the show run its course is a good way to find out if it was well received and is worth one's time.
Also, I like consuming media at my own pace.

Unless the series was overly exciting, I couldn't marathon it anyway so not really

But in the case of overly exciting, it almost becomes difficult to watch another series until I finish said series

Same, 2-3 episodes a day. If I really like it, I could watch 4 episodes.

I am also not a big fan of watching currently airing anime cuz epecially when I watch a lot of shows at the same time I tend to forget some things. Also it usually takes a while for me to really get into the series and that's something with just doesn't happen if I have to wait a whole week for the next episode.

I don't watch currently-airing stuff either, but I also don't marathon finished series, unless watching a few episodes in a night counts as marathoning.

I do both.

I usually marathon the series which I'm enjoying very much.

And the casual ones, I watch them weekly or biweekly.

I typically watch finished anime, but I do have some exceptions occassionally with Re-Zero, Shomin Sample, and Naruto Shippuden in the past. I usually try binging 1-2 anime at a time. Their is so much new anime nowadays it is nearly impossible to follow them all.

Depends on what I'm watching. Stuff like Yu Yu Hakusho is super easy to binge, almost to the point where you just can't stop after a few episodes, while some seasonals don't have the same effect on me, especially the episodic comedies or cute girls shows etc.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

This is why you cycle through different genres. Focusing on one genre alone from the same author is really stressful. Binge watching is good for long shows unless you skip anime intros and endings. You should at least watch those at least twice in a series. CGDCT & Typical Long Shounen usually is fine if you don't follow it weekly. In fact, it's more exhausting watching shounen anime weekly than binge watching them. Mysteries, Suspense, Seinen, Drama shows are really good when watching it weekly cause of the excitement.

The only reason why I watch airing anime on a weekly basis is to join in the discussion of the anime that I'm most interested in. The anime that I don't really need to discuss about are the ones I leave for watching later to marathon. Of course if the anime has already finished airing, then marathoning isn't a problem.

Marathoning doesn't work for me, my attention span means I get bored with most series if I watch more than maybe 2-3 episodes in a sitting, so watching weekly allows me to finish more shows. This is also why I usually have 2-3 shows I'm watching besides seasonal stuff, so I can pick which one I'm in the mood for and can switch between a few.

If I can download a whole series at once then I'll marathon it. Otherwise I just watch one episode a week.

Definitely marathoning, because watching one episode a week is actually frustrating and boring. Also there isn't much to follow at the same time, since most of anime are mediocre.

I prefer both honestly. Depends how many episodes the anime has!

If it has a lot of get aired, i wait until it ends.

If it has less than 25/26 i watch it weekly.

Marathoning is about the best way to get me to finish a show. Not least of all because marathoning a show almost always means that I really like it. Weekly viewing always results in dozens of showing lying in purgatory, waiting to be picked back up months or even years later so they can finish their journey to anime heaven.

My decision is mainly based on how many episodes the show will be airing for; if it's over 26 then I'll wait for it to finish, but if not then I'll watch it weekly.

I watch more seasonals than average, but that's not enough to satiate me. I also watch two or more finished shows concurrently on top of watching seasonals.

Not a big fan of marathoning shows. Anticipating and theorizing between episodes is something I love doing, almost as much as watching (sometimes more) the show. If I just marathon, I'll just see what happens instead of playing with imagination.
