THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Looks like a grim murder is discovered and more killings are made this episode.

Man, this show has gotten so dark now. I'm glad Ash and the others geared themselves with weaposn for a counterattack. I thought the episode's action was intense as it got. Ash's emotions was running high too when he pulled the trigger.

I actually find it pretty inspiring how far Ash goes to recuse his friend Eiji.

I would die for Sing Soo-Ling.

Well, this episode was way happier than the last one! It's... actually pretty upsetting to call it like this because it was still heartbreaking. But I loved it.
I feel ashamed that I didn't really acknowledge all good things Yut-Lung did while I was reading manga. He's literally a snake, I would like to throw something heavy at him. But even at this point he's a... well, not that bad boy. And oh God, is it me or he's getting prettier with every episode?
And can we appreciate Ash's gang for a second? I would kill for these boys, seriously. I love them.
Well, they skipped some stuff (I'm especially upset because there was no "lousy Chinese food" part) but I really felt this episode with my whole existence. Actually, I was pretty terrified they would show Shorter's corpse. I wouldn't survive this. But fortunately no. They just made this scene even more painful.
Oh, and by the way, I would seriously die for Sing. Many times if necessary. He's the best-est boy.

Pretty good adaptation with minor things left out. The pacing is still a bit fast for me though. They captured the foreshadowing of things to come really well here. Somehow this adaptation makes em feel a little more sympathetic to Yut Lung but I still hate him.

Omg so glad they censored certain parts of Shorter's corpse. Still not over his dead.
Glad things are going in the right direction now compared to last week.

I second that!!!!!!! He's worth of all the love that's yet to come for him.

I loved this ep, honestly I was really excited to see Ash burning it all down when he sees what they did to Shorter's body but it was so painful....And we finally got to see that doctor die.

I love the subtle development in Ash and Eiji's relationship. That scene when Ash asks Eiji if he's afraid of him and he says 'never' is one of my favorite moments of them and I loved it!!!!! so much.

Also I really love how they animated Yut-Lung, he's always so beautiful in every scene.

It's so painful to wait for next weeks ep!!!!!!!!!!!!! But it's good because as someone who binge read the manga, I wanna keep on having Banana Fish content for a long time. Get ready because the story will keep getting better and better hehe

This was quite the action-packed episode. It's a shame to see what happened with Shorter's corpse, but at least Ash got his revenge on that jackass doctor. I also liked seeing him rescue Eiji and take out more of Golzine's goons. Now I'm interested to see how this Yue-Lung and Sing thing develops later on.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Ayyyyy Rambo Ash for the win! That fucking doctor deserved it!

Must have been a nightmare to witness Shorter's corpse like that. Ash was really intimidating in this episode. if Arthur were there, he could have been good as dead if he ever enters on Ash's sight.

I must say this... Banana Fish is now anime of the year for me. The last two episodes were executed so well... I shed real tears which is something that almost never happens when I watch anime.

Banana Fish has a perfect balance of emotion, action, conspiracy, realism, maturity

I already loved the first episodes and expected it to my AOTY based on people saying it gets even better later. But the last two episodes have been exceptional - the characters and their developments, the voice acting, the animation, and the emotional impact it's all had. I'm excited for where it goes from here as many people say this is where it starts to get really good.

I already knew that but my expectations were highly surpassed. I loved every single scene. Ash is completely broken but he has to staystrong for Eiji and for the others. Theycut some sentence (one about Eiji's feelings) but the action was perfect.

I agree. Though, I don't know how to feel about his "clean" vocab. I like that later in the manga, it teaches us that Eiji has a perceptive yet happy "to cheer others up" attitude. He wasn't blind or naive, but decides to not intercept for the sake of keeping his friends satisfied (in a way), but is still blunt/honest when he thinks he needs to be.

I kinda hope they keep that personality trait later in the anime too, because it gave depth and showed how Eiji cared for others like Ash instead of simply being a happy-go-lucky persona caught in a bad situation.

Though he is cute/adorable in both manga and anime, at least from my perspective.

This one was really good, I'm falling hard for Yut-Lung, and all of the Ash x Eiji moments were precious!

For some reason beyond my comprehension, Dino seems to value Arthur, or at least he may want him to think so, and of course he's using the Banana Fish in order to affect the political world, a fearsome monster for sure.

But it's a pity that Yut-Lung and Ash may never be on the same team, Yut-Lung was just a piece being used when it comes to Eiji's kidnapping and Shorter's "betrayal" which ended up with his death, Yut-Lung pretty much like Ash, was dragged into the mafia when he was just a kid, was abused, and couldn't do anything about it, but there's no way for Ash to know this, and it's not like it erases what he did, so the death flag was raised. But I loved how he had everything under control, the guards and the security system were nothing to him, he owned that place. And he even left Abraham Dawson paralyzed so that he couldn't run away and pay for what he did, of course he also stole all of the Banana Fish that was left, I'm so GLAD Dawson paid for what he did, I mean, considering what happened to Griffin and Shorter, his death was fast and merciful, which is a pity, but at least he will NEVER hurt or trample over other people's lives ever again, I wonder how much of an impact his death will have when it comes to Banana Fish, will the other men that were working with him and survived be able to reproduce it? Probably, but it would be nice if it halted Dino's plans at least a little.

Also that Sing boy is really cool, a pity he's misunderstanding the situation, but I'm glad Yut-Lung pretty much recruited him, but let's see if this situation lasts, but if it does and he can become a character as interesting as Yut-Lung, which is hard, they are going to be a great duo to follow. Max, and Ibe are also safe, and I have already mentioned it, but I was screaming with the hug, their exchanged words and the promise, like Eiji saying that he would go crazy if he lost Ash, or how he's going to be waiting for him forever, they are truly really close, and thanks to Eiji, Ash went to recover Shorter's body, it was hard for him to see his friend like that without a doubt, but I think he did the right thing by burning his body, may Shorter find peace in death, he was 50% avenged, and he will never be forgotten.

I see Lee has started to feel empathy for Ash and his comrades, even though he was the one that betrayed them. I wonder what's his end goal especially his brother.

Ash finally killed that doctor I am glad, although he's afraid of dying after causing so much grief to Ash. I had a glimpse of a wish that Shorter was alive in that lab, but he's really dead. I thought that Sing boy would be a challenge but, he got handed to him, I guess Ash was really in the mood. I wonder how will the rest of the gang take Shorter's death and that Ash killed him.

This series is starting to grow on me.

Man, after last week’s episode, this one was pretty damned satisfying to watch... It was all but perfect seeing all the ways our boys came together to escape Dino’s mansion, and practically level the sucker in doing so, as well as offing a handful of Dino’s goons — especially that piece of 💩 that was essentially responsible for creating the Banana Fish drug, killing Ash’s brother, and similarly setting up poor Shorter’s own demise. It really kicked all kinds of ass!

Yeah, there's some stiff animation and even odd art this time around. But at this point, it's just MAPPA being MAPPA. They tend to make beautiful first few episodes and later on the production, quality tends to dip a bit as they don't have as much time to polish things. I also can't really blame them since episode 9 was gorgeous and it was a much more important episode to nail. But hopefully the next major action episode will look better (which I think it will since the episode that precedes that one probably won't need as much care as episode 9).

They cut out everyone's F bombs. I remember Sing had a lot to say to Ash language wise during their confrontation that was cut out so it's not just Eiji being given a "clean" vocabulary. Oddly enough, Sing calls Yut-Lung a bitch but that didn't get translated by Amazon.

Perhaps it's just TV censors, though that sucks if that's the case. Also, Amazon translations are quite weird and peculiar too. They didn't even translate the names/positions of those who visited Goldzine (ie. the senators)

Yeah, I noticed that too. Really cheap on Amazon's part. I'm looking forward to the next episode though. If it covers as far as I think it will, then people will get to see just how smart Ash is. It will be be really lighthearted too as a change of pace. Oh and really gay. :D

Well, this anime is right back to making me scream.
The last epi was a bit of a let down for me production-wise, at least the first half - the second, as well all know, was superb - so I'm glad this one had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.
I'm extremely worried for my boy Sing, because while I love Yut-Lung, he's not exactly good news. Like, ever. I mean, he doesn't seem to have any intention of harming Sing, but he's already being manipulated so that's great.

I agree. It was extremely annoying to watch how almost everyone thought that Ash just killed Shorter for seemingly no reason at all. And he didn't even bother to clarify the misunderstanding. Though I get how heartbroken and sad he was and had better things to do than saying one measly sentence about Shorter's death. But really...
Anyway, the episode was great, it was definitely worth watching it.

It's not about Ash being heartbroken. He had to kill Shorter because of Banana Fish, a drug. Now, imagine yourself explaining such worldwide matter to random 14 year old. Yeah, this doesn't work. But okay, let's say Ash explains what happened. "I had to kill your boss because he was injected with a lethal drug called Banana Fish. He became so terrified of Eiji that he wanted to kill him. I didn't want Eiji to die and Shorter was suffering so I shot him". Sing would probably ask if Ash is on drugs himself.

Man when ash just help the trigger down on that doctor... what a great episode.

It’s pretty crazy how big of an influence Dino has. He’s killing presidential candidates like it’s nothing and has politicians under his wing. I find it interests that he keeps Aurther so close (but doesn’t make him have sex?). Also I’m glad that it seems there won’t be a dumb misunderstanding involving lack of communication about why Shorter is dead. Yut-Lung isn’t all bad.
