It depends on how diverse the kind of anime you watch. Someone, might only watch shonen, and has watch 300 days worth of it, and he/she can be called a noob in psychological anime, or slice of life anime. Moreover, some people pick up on things much faster than other. So after watching 10 anime, they might know more about anime tropes and things than someone who has seen 100 anime.

I'd say this by far. But looking on a basic out look I'd say 100+.
I'd also say I know more about shows that I haven't watched on a grand scale then I've consumed so it might also be how long you're around too. Its an experince thing.
I think it doesn't matter how many episodes but more on how many anime you've seen!!
I mean episode wise, one piece would have episodes more than 50 anime combined, but it wouldn't help you understand the medium more than those 50 anime!!

A non japanese person obsessed with Japanese culture and/or given to inappropriately assimilating Japanese fashion, language, and traditions.

N.E.E.T.:
commonly known for No Education Employment and Training is also used uncommonly known as No Effort Exercise and Training. This term is most uncommonly used by the urban/modern day slacker and apathetic people.
Words similar to this are lazy, slacker, sluggish, otaku and Apathy
Otaku:
someone who has an obsessive interest in something,
is extremely negative in meaning as it is used to refer to someone who stays at home all the time and doesn't have a life (no social life, no love life, etc)
Usually an otaku person has nothing better to do with their life so they pass the time by watching anime, playing videogames, surfing the internet (otaku is also used to refer to a nerd/hacker/programmer).
In the Western culture, people confuse otaku to be something positive like "Guru"
I guess it is when you can say that the person in question has some/a lot of knowledge about it. As for how many animes, I don't think I can answer that with certainty.
If you watch a reasonable amount of anime of different genres, you'll have a greater understanding on all the types of anime that exists out there. Being exposed to a variety of tropes, plots, characters, art styles, etc means your knowledge will expand and I think this is what one should have to be experienced with anime. Personally, I believe enjoyment is a more important factor than having knowledge when it comes to anime so try not to think too much on this topic.
Your mean score should be less than 5, noob do not know how to rate properly
MAL score and most user-based rating system are all joke, Imagine trusting plebs and hivemind. Find users who have good sense and rating and use them as a reference. Check my guide to rate
Your taste is trash. Cope, seethe, mald
It's not certain how many. Probably up until you recognize few certain recyable scenes/cliche in anime. Knowing few director (the show he/she had and or directed) and composer might too. I think that was the checkpoint.
There really is nothing like that. As long you are knowledgeable of th medium, I'd say you are good to go. 2 friends of mine have less than 50 days, but they are pretty knowledgeable of the medium at hand. Knowing anime, production, writing, significant figures like directors, producers and mangakas and etc.
Watch all of them or watch more than a 1000, at that moment you will be a true Anime fanI joke ofc, doesn't matter just watch everything at your own pace.
Ascended Taste
I only came back to this site for the forum sets and to promote my RYM list... Anilist ftw still :dab:
The number of shows seen is less important than knowledge in general. I'll say that I see people as newbies less based on numbers and more based on what kind of stuff they say and how they say it. Just follow the smell of entitled ignorance, that's the difference between noobs and fans-in-learning :>.
Just to show how little numbers mean, you can watch 200 anime and all of them are ecchi harem kind of stuff and then you are well-versed with ecchi harems but still know jack shit about anime as a whole. And anything you do think you know is probably heavily biased by your one-sided experience.
That goes for every genre. You can be a veteran of certain genres but still be a noob when it comes to anime overall.
The amount of shows watched necessary not to be considered a noob anymore equals the amount necessary to being able to stop criticizing people for not sharing your taste anymore.
Most people here add ovas/specials/music. That's why they have huge lists. Therefore I'd say that number of shows you completed doesn't really matter. It's all about the real tv series and the most iconic shows you watched.
"elles sont bien noires
les pensées des nuits blanches"
Number of shows watched is not really as important as you think. Actually when it comes the point when you can't give a damn about other's opinions of whether or not you are a "noob", you can safely consider yourself a non-noob, whatever that means.
In reality, anime isn't special, it's just like any other movie or TV show. "You've got to watch anime till you <insert characteristic you pick up>" is nice and all, but you don't have to watch anime to do that. Carry your love for comedy shows into comedy anime, carry your love for action shows into action anime etc. If you know your taste well, then you'll be a good person to discuss anime with. And it doesn't take watching anime to know your taste.
If your favourite character is Tsutsukakushi Tsukiko, you are my soul mate.
Been a long time since I've been here, I'll continue expressing myself freely and believe everyone should too. My MAL Interview
ShxneR said: Amount of anime watched to be no longer considered a noob?
I'm thinking around 50-100? What about you guys :)
It's not a specific amount of anime.
It's an attitude.
You're a noob if you don't get that anime is a bigger thing than just a few stereotypes, just a few series, or just a few genres.
You're not a noob if you understand that, along with some basic things:
* People can have vastly different tastes.
* Anime as a category is quite diverse and caters to a variety of tastes.
* Talking presumptuously about people, series, or genres is generally considered rude or at least uninformed.
If you're watching a huge number of series quickly, just to be able to claim that you've watched them, then you're not really giving yourself time to digest each series and really get to know them.
You could watch a cour of anime every day for a year. You'd finish at least a couple hundred series this way. You can even speed up videos so you watch them faster.
But does that make the experience any more fulfilling? Or are you just doing it to check boxes off a list and to show off your "cred" to other people?
What does the experience leave you with, if you were to go out to the middle of a forest or field or canyon somewhere, and sit in the dark, at 4 AM, without anything anime-related physically on you? What does your hobby mean to you?
But more seriously, I think it's when you start noticing common tropes and clichés. When you're watching an anime and notice some flaws in it (no anime is prefect).
Number of completed anime means nothing (I consider myself relatively new to all this anime thing :-P).
I'm barely within the range you just mentioned, but I'm still a noob. To be honest, does it even matter? As long as you enjoy it, it's all fine. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Realistically, there probably isn't a definitive answer. It's like asking 'what is the best anime' there are many different answers.
Imo, I think it would probably be when you start to notice patterns/trends that repeat within a majority of shows, and you can start to predict how certain events will play out and such (such as when a guy falls over a girl)
