Akari's sadness was as disheartening as Hina's. Thankfully, Kiriyama managed to lighten her mood. Despite Akari's own conviction, she wasn't mistaken.

Watching Nikaido go gung-ho over Kiriyama's deceptive passion was amusing.

I guess I'll just have to cry during every episode now.

Does anyone else think Hina might develop feelings for Rei and end up hurting even more in the long run? Just a thought :/

I can't say that I've been in love with this bullying arc. I mean, it's obviously a genuine issue and I appreciate the fact that the show has addressed it in a serious way, but it just has that irritating reek of A Very Special Episode kind of thing like American tv would do in the1980s where some random crap sitcom would amp up some shit about a comedy character dealing with a random "tragedy." Blah.

I still love this show to death but I'm just not feeling particularly interested in this storyline and I hope it ends asafp.

I didn't claim that this arc was random and I am well aware of the bigger issues that this arc introduces because I've already read the manga. I love this show, as I said, and nonetheless I don't love this very specific arc. Obviously it's just my opinion and it'd be ridiculous for me to say that, if you really feel strongly about these episodes, that you were wrong. It's just my personal view of a couple of episodes of one of the best manga and anime series of the last several years.

Wow, Rei is giving his all for Hina, from asking for advice (which seemed pretty practical) and even getting some practice matches in with Nikaidou! Although he's focusing on the prize money and not becoming best friends LOL XD Great scene in the second half with Akari, it must have been very tough for her having to become a "mom" at 19 >_< So I'm glad that she was able to get some encouragement from Rei. Sorry Hayashida, I guess I'm shipping Rei with Akari now and not Hina ... even though I don't think any romance will be involved in this anime haha :P

I really liked this episode. We saw some significant progress here in Rei's rehabilitation. That's one thing I always have to give this show. It's willing to let the characters change. And it's tried quite a few different things in its run. I am kind of wondering (not necessarily impatiently) how much more time its going to spend on this one story though.

It's moralizing and presentation of a story about bullying. Got a bit more in depth in this episode I found. I especially liked the way it got into Akari's reaction. It was a little cheesy maybe. But guilt over being unable to help with another's problems is a very real thing. And a lot of times you can look back at how you reacted to something. And think poorly of yourself as a friend. I thought Rei's pep talk to Akari about her misdirected emotions. Coming from her strong desire for Hina to be happy. Was a very sweet and touching scene. If a little on the nose.

Can this even get any better? But honestly, Shaft, why couldn't you deliver greatness as this in the first season too? We literally have to suffer through it to get here but at least now it seems it was worth it.

After great previous episode the feels were really strong this time too, and the art also! Loved the dialogue between Rei and Hayashida in the beginning and for the first time maybe, I liked the following comedy too.
The moment when Akari realized that Rei actually weights less than her, that was just priceless :D

And again, I say it: this series is the strongest in its daily-life interactions with sisters (including Kyouko). When compared to it those shogi matches feels like boring chore, so I really hope there would be fewer episodes devoted to it.

Well ill be damned the comedy was actually funny this time around, and the drama at the end with akari seriously hit hard. This show just has a way of being the most relatable thing.

Watching this I remember reading the manga (which is identical to the anime) and thinking that, while I loved the story and characters, it felt like everybody was too confident in handling the current issue. Then came Akari's confession, and I was blown away. I've seen bullying being portrayed many times in many different media, and it's often either overly staged and dramatic, or too simplistic, or too patronizing. Who would have thought that some anime would give me such a powerful take. It doesn't get in the way of the story, because it's functional to the characters and their developments; it doesn't put them in unfitting roles; it's treated with the right amount of emotion, concern, detachment, humanity. When dealing with serious issues, sometimes authors get too anxious about getting the point across, and as a result the story sticks out badly and I tend to feel alienated by it. But this one manages to bring the viewer in, also thanks to the fact that we're now familiarized so much with the characters and they feel very tridimensional, and as a result I feel emotional about it and end up interiorizing the message given as well. Isn't that what any type of story should be about?

As if there weren't enough crying in the previous episode, now they are literally PEELING ONIONS.

Hina's bullying story feels very generic by itself, but I guess it's just a setup for Kiriyama's reaction to it.

That last scene makes me think that Hina will develop a crush on Kiriyama and almost certainly it will be one sided (also, what's up with that Cat-Hitler-Skirt doll?).

Rei is way too considered with the concept of paying a debt of money to Hina when all she really needs right now is support.

Every episode since the good but lackluster first has been out of the park, and I'm loving it. After getting super emotional from the last two episodes, we get a nice and comedic, yet important and heartful episode. Hayashida is best boy, truly doing his alternate persona Reigen proud. Every single syllable out of his mouth was spot on. It's not what the parents or the teacher or the school want. It's what the victim wants. If the issue is resolved but the victim still has no friends, what was the point? They're still lonely. Rei getting fired up for losing a match because he wants to earn money for Hina is so fucking wholesome. Akari getting worried about his weight was hilarious. Her fears about Hina were relatable, genuine, and understandable, and Rei's response was perfect. Another masterpeece episode, 5/5.

I agree with the way they described the solution for bullying, it's different for everyone

Ara ara, Akari getting angry after hearing Rei's weight, we all what that means..

Akari is pretty impressive, acting as a surrogate mother since the age of 19 years, taking care of her two younger siblings, one of who was still a baby

Was a bit surprised to see the title of this episode and suddenly seeing the Teacher thinking Rei is in love with Hina, glad that the confession was something else..

HAHAHAAHHAHAHH!!! So he's thinking about Hina's welfare lol he's willing to give everything to Hina.. his plan is too advance though.. very advance!! Hahahahha

The 3 sisters are savior of Rei.
Best episode so far. I really ship Rei x Hina. Two cutiesss ~ I love them ❤

Thank you, Hina didn't have to suffer so much this episode!
I thought Akari would cry this episode, and she really did, but I can tell she was still holding it back, she's trying her best to stay strong

Oh and Hina's smile at the end made me so happy ♥
I like her so much, love how cheerful and energetic she is all the time, so it was so sad to see her down like that in the last episode

Another good episode. Hayashida Sensei‘s comments in solving bullying made me realize that there was no perfect solution to it, that it differs depending on the person. And also Hayashida’s assumption on Rei’s feelings towards Hina is so cute. But I don’t think Rei thinks Hina in that way or maybe he still hasn’t realize it yet lol.

Also, Akari’s point of view on Hina’s problem is realistic and understandable.

I wonder, what Rei needs money for.. Well, I mean, he looks really dedicated to winning it all.. And in monetary plan too, it seems, it's important for him.. So what for he needs the money?.. And maybe some big exact sum?..
Ah.. So Rei thinks about such monetary expenses which go with changing schools, or to advocate.. Hm.. Fair enough.. But also for advocate there will always be other advocate..
52 kilograms is a bit underweight, no?.. Like I'm pretty sure that you wouldn't even be able to donate blood with such weight..
Well.. Now Rei supports Akari.. Rei really gets closer to Kawamoto sisters in this season.. It's very nice to see.. One of the nicest things in anime..
I only don't understand, in what moment Hinata saved Rei?.. Did I miss something?.. Or Rei is talking about Kawamoto sisters' support in general, and so Hinata's in particular as well?.. Or something.. Not sure..
And also this episode Rei is finally found his motivation, it seems.. For some reason we approached it at first with many jokes around him, with how teacher called him crazy in his mind, as well as how Rei seems as if obsessed comparing to Harunobu.. But it honestly is a big thing.. Well.. It was like so, when Rei befriended his first friend at school too.. In the club.. All being played for laughs.. Even if it's actually very important moment in Rei's life.. Him getting motivation for playing shougi.. Is also really important happening..

Oh, yes, I remember being confused about this during my first time. As for the answer, the last 5 minutes of S02E21 would perfectly answer this! But even where you stand, you can make an educated guess xD

This episode was very comedic at it’s first half, but it somehow made me shed tears in the latter half.

Rei realizes how much debt he owes to Hina, heck even the entire Kawamoto family in general. The first time he genuinely gets really mad over a loss was because he had someone else in mind. The climax of this episode, where Akari is overfilling the bowl of greens was amazing. He shows his gratitude towards Akari and simultaneously saves her. This quote sums it up perfectly, ”I realized that Hina was my savior. So because you raised Hina to be a girl with so much courage, that makes you my savior as well.”

This episode also really just shows just how much Rei has changed as a person. He’s slowly learning that everyone deals with something painful in their life (whether it be bullying, the loss of a loved one, family issues, etc). But everyday people all around us try to accept it and slowly move on with their daily lives despite this. I think this is such a beautiful message trying to be shown.

I am very fond and a bit jealous of the Kawamoto family. They are the perfect example of what, I think, a family should function like. Despite being in the situation they are in, they are still able to support each other and ask for help from one another without hesitation at all. And I think this is a truly beautiful episode where it shows this in play.

These sisters were always there for Rei when he needed them to be. Now, even in the simple form of a few words of comfort and assurance, Rei is there for them.

Idk about the rest of you, but I felt it when Akari opened up with how she almost felt guilty when she realized she would rather have had Hina protect herself rather than put herself out on a limb for someone else and risk getting hurt. She couldn't give Hina the praise that the grandpa so strongly gave her. These characters have been pretty real from the start, but man. They are getting even more real.

Akari's way of thinking is something I really relate to. She desires harmony, especially for the ones closest to her. So it's very understandable she would want Hina to walk away before shit hits the fan. I can definitely see lots of people saying that it's the cowardly way out and they're quite right. But it's difficult for some people to confront bullies knowing the potential consequences afterwards. As for both parents and children making less of a fuss about it is the most comfortable way out. All that being said though, Hina for sticking to her guns really emphasises her tenacity.

rei's finally fired up about not wanting to lose, but nikaido and the others were wrong about what his frustration was for lol but still, rei's slowly coming out of his shell and actually caring for others in a more positive way, i think, not like how he was trying to protect his adoptive sister who clearly doesn't want his help at all.
