The last five minutes is stunning.
Give you both hope and despair, dark and light, like adventure in the Abyss itself.
Cannot find a better scene from any other anime in recent 3 years.
(Last time my tears run like this is the finale of Ping Pong the Animation...)

I skipped this at the beginning of the season but after seeing and hearing about its positive reception, I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did, I really enjoyed this show.

I'll keep my hopes up for a second season, as I would like to see more of that Bondrewd guy, as well as the adventure of Riko and Reg as they make their way through the abyss.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

MAL is literally just anime Twitter as its own website lol.

Aw man, this was such a good anime, I'm so glad I decided to pick it up. I cried in the middle of it, that was such a heartfelt scene.

10/10. Fingers crossed that we get a season two once there's more manga for them to adapt, since I've heard there's not enough content for a season two yet. An OVA would be cool too.

Fantastic ending. Admirable how much it shows in gruesome detail. The last four episodes mostly made up for the uninteresting middle portion.

A touching, conclusive and dark finale to end proceedings off for the Season. Week after week, this show simply got more and more intense in ways unanticipated by many, I'm sure, and this was definitely and easily the most dark and touching episode of all.
It was so heartbreaking, painful and saddening to see the elevator scene firstly with the intense emotions and all followed by Mitty's eventual death. To be honest, dark human experimentation was the last thing I expected from this show, but to my surprise it as though it is one of the most vital and important pieces of this splendid story and one that has been handled brilliantly thus far. It was seriously painful and an eyesore to watch all those bizarre scenes and I hope, for the sake of the characters, that was all! Gah, Nanachi immediately breaking down to tears after Mitty's death was so dang excruciating though. Personally, the moment of this episode that hurt me the most was when Nanachi was taken along to see Mitty's disastrous condition after numerous experiments and listening to that psychotic scientist deduce the results of those inhmane experiments and tests. I so hope that Lyza, Ouzen and the other top Raiders to be a part of these experiments nor the leading government of the land above and that Nanachi once and for all gets to achieve his revenge and salvation ultimately.
Overall, a straight 5/5 to this episode and a all-round well deserved 9/10. Expecting this show to get off the Danmachi vibes was seriously the worst mental preparation to end up in the midst of this show, Guaranteed! Now, all we can do is hope and wish for a Second Season and that the sales go great. Here's hoping for a Second Season! I need to know what's going to happen next, although I'll find out soon enough once I start reading the manga which I definitely will as soon as I can, but want to see more of this anyway.

Story Development/Plot Developments: 9.5/10
Art/Animation: 9/10
Sound Department: 9/10
Characters: 9/10
Enjoyment: 9/10

=> Overall: 9/10!

Wow, what a powerful and emotional way to end the anime.

This anime covered a lot of things and the story telling coupled with the refreshingly original art made this anime great.

Definitely anime of the season for me and 9/10

The show was outstanding! The production values, world building, music, animation, story, characters...everything.

It certainly deserves top 100 status. I will say it needs a second season to make it truly special, the series has been top of the JP TV rankings so hopefully that translates into sales which in turn means we get that second season

I really hope Sentai include a fold out version of the map of Abyss in their CE, that would be pretty cool

9/10 (may get a 10 if we get another excellent season)

Good god this anime is great. It's not only great, it's fantastic, it's wonderful, it's a work of art. It's what all anime should be.

Made in Abyss might be the top anime of this year for me for a single reason: It has an identity of it's own. It has a soul. In an anime world where it's so easy to put anime into premade archetypes, like the harem or the, ugh... isekai... it's so refreshing to see one that does something unique and that, unlike 18if, does it fantastically. Because what's great about this anime is that there's nothing like it out there.

If it didn't leave an open end (fuck waiting for season 2, ima just read the manga lol) it would be a 10/10 for me. And I REALLY want to give it a 10. Let's just leave it at 9.5 for now, and a 9 in my vote much as it pains me. But man if season 2 is better than this (and the people that have read the manga say that, if adapted correctly, it will be) this series might just get into my all-time favs.

This was one of the hardest things I have ever had to watch

I can't even begin to express how depressed I was and how much despair and sadness overcame me when I saw the story of Nanachi and Mitty and I'm just astonished by how THAT guy didn't even see all of these poor little kids as human beings

This reminded me of the feeling I got when I watched FMA and saw Shou Tucker perform experiments on his own daughter and turned her into a fucking beast and this was just as if not even more fucked up than that, and I am just so sorry for all of them.....This man killed Mitty over and over (Which he know she felt every bit of pain there was to come from it) and deformed her even more and for such a sweet and optimistic girl, she didn't deserve that at all

I can't even begin to imagine the psychological trauma Nanachi went through all this time and seeing her in present day and watching how she reacted to when it was time to kill Mitty just fucking broke me and left me hollow inside and I can't express it enough

But other than that, everything about this episode was just fantastic and it truly made me happy to see Nanachi smile again as well as to agree to join them on their journey because I just want her to be happy....She deserves to be happy....I'm happy for Reg and Riko too for overcoming their struggles and getting back on their horse

Seconded, amazing show overall. Outstanding atmosphere and world building, loved the characters especially Nanachi. I love the sense of adventure the series manages to create and the way it envelops it in a darker and darker tone. Some of things were just messed up but despite all that seeing our protagonists continue on their journey is pretty inspiring.

9/10, really hope there's a second season.

This anime (it's a season 1 that's supposed to just introduce a story) deserves a 9/10 easily, but this episode alone is capable of making it 10/10.

A masterpiece episode. One of the best episodes I've seen. A true work of art, with everything from pacing to storytelling to animation to voice acting on point. I'm utterly astonished and moved.

This episode also should stand as a masterful example as how pacing should be done.

It gets even darker. If you think what Bondrewd did to Nanachi and Mitty was absolutely horrifying, wait until you see all things he does within the 5th layer/next arc.

5/5- Fantastic and powerful finale. Almost everything you'd ever wanted in a finale was met and delivered in spades.

Nanachi became my favorite in this series by a HUGE landslide. Nanachi is just a wonderful character and a joy to watch despite being in this for 3.5 episodes. Poor Nanachi and Mitty, their past was tragic.

Anyways, 9/10 for the season. It had enough intrigue for me in the first half but I considered that a 7-8/10. The 2nd half though was far more captivating and entertaining. The overall tone of the series grew darker and more grim. The final 3 episodes were absolutely incredible in my opinion.

I want to rate it a 10/10 but the first few introductory episodes were a bit slow for me. On top of that, I am not a big fan of the character designs. Other than that, the artwork of the environment and the designs for the monsters was gorgeous. The story was top notch and the soundtrack is phenomenal.

Here's hoping Season 2 (and the manga) comes soon!

Before the episode that introduced Nanachi I thought of this show: meh... another dime in a dozen... but I did change my mind due to that character alone and I can say the ending was great. I wonder how behind technologically the cave raiders are. Because technically Mitty could be saved using engineered viruses. One could re-write her DNA at least to something similar to Nanachi.

Well that back story of Nanichi and Mitty was very dark indeed, although I pretty much knew what was going to happen the moment we were introduced Bondrewd. If we were introduced to this world through this story, without knowing what happens to Mitty, the intensity of these scenes would have been off the scale.

All that said, what a wonderful season finale to such a beautifully crafted anime. I really hope this isn't going to be the last episode I get to see.

This episode. Damn.

I've been reading and watching stuff for a long time, and recently started exploring the "anime/manga world". This is the first time i cried watching/reading some form of entertainment. The mix of marvelous art, intense voice acting, fantastic ost and the way they introduced the past of Mitty and Nanachi, just made that scene one of the most emotional sequences i've ever experienced.

I'll definetely jump to the manga now, and pray every day for a season 2.

I still wasn't into it too much after about the first 4 episodes but as I continued watching it, it really grew on me. Definitely one of the best pleasant surprises of the season for me and it has managed to squeeze out an ironclad 9/10 for me. Now to read the manga.
