The more obscure it is, the better and more understanding the fans are. You know people are great when they can stand to watch Kuuchuu Buranko. Gintama has funny fans. I really like the Kuroko no Basuke fanbase and the Osomatsu-san one, too.

The Pokemon fandom for me, because I've been a part of it since the beginning. Only 90's kids remember building their own Pokemon fansites on Geocities and Angelfire. And even though I haven't played competitively for like a decade, the game is still interesting and the community is is also alive and well in case I ever feel like getting back to it. Objectively speaking, all fandoms are cancerous though. Pokemon furfags can yiff in hell.

Porn anime fanbase- includes yaoi, yuri, ecchi, hentai, shonen ai, shoujo ai- but very specifically the people which don't care what the flip you like and just all seem to be ok with what you like. Ever since I have known this base exists, I have not felt ashamed of what I love. I have noticed though the more hardcore the cooler the fan is. Hierarchy of cool fans go something like this Hentai> Yaoi> shonen ai> Yuri=Ecchi>shoujo ai > "not shonen ai fan" (Yuri on ice) Not shonen ai fans are pretty annoying. Typically too PC to actually be porn anime fans. Granted us porn watches from higher up definitely like those shows too. But it isn't just us or the shows wouldn't be nearly as popular.

Non-cancerous fandoms are hard to come by. Like, I'm a huge fan of the Bakemonogatari series, but I stay far away from that fandom because things get really weird and uncomfortable really fast. Some of the better fandoms I have had the pleasure of being a part of include: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - People here seem more interested in making memes than starting fights or being weird. For the most part, they just quote the show back and forth to each other and enjoy the ridiculousness of the shows/manga. A fun group of people who don't really care about the negative connotations of being an anime fan. Gintama - I don't think I've ever seen any fights or major arguments related to Gintama. Like JoJo, for the most part this fandom just likes enjoying the ridiculous humor of the show together and sharing their favorite moments and characters. Cowboy Bebop - A lot of this fandom is comprised of people who live on the outskirts of being anime fans, so there's less a chance to run into weird people involved in the fandom. Studio Ghibli fans - Like Bebop, a lot of the people who like these movies aren't necessarily fans of anime. Very laid-back group to be a part of. Mushishi - This is like the hippy group of anime. Lots of great people who just like good storytelling over anime tropes and cliches. Thought-provoking thriller anime - There's a subset of people who really like the ambiguous, thought-provoking aspect of some of the darker anime out there, like Monster, Serial Experiments Lain, Haibane Renmei (not super dark, tho), and anything Satoshi Kon has done. This is a great fandom because discussion is based around analysis and learning more about these anime and about life from their themes and messages. Not much room for fighting or arguing over best girl. Any show that hardly anyone has watched - The fun part about loving shows that are under the radar of most people is how awesome it is when you run into someone who's seen the show. Like, it seems no one ever watched Kino's Journey, a show I adore, so I get super excited when I find someone who has. These smaller fandoms seem to be content enjoying their shows with the few other people who've watched them.

These smaller fandoms seem to be content enjoying their shows with the few other people who've watched them. As someone who hates Jo Jo- I don't understand how Jo Jo's fandom is considered not cancer. All I see is cancer from afar. But I guess as an Evangelion fan who doesn't see that fandom as cancer when I am sure all other people see is probably the most cancerous fandom around lol Welp. And I also love yaoi. So eh. But yeah Jo Jo's fandom always attacks me for not liking their show. But not like the Evangelion base wouldn't do the same. XD But Jo Jo's fandom is totally the same level of zealous. But to me, the meme culture of Jo Jo is exactly what keeps me away. And Evangelion's more perfectionism and amazing AMVs and perfect fanfics and perfect doujins kinda what keep me coming back. I mean, Evangelion's smut is top tier. The meme culture for Evangelion isn't exactly my fave part. "Get in the robot" is like literally the most cancer part- I feel no different about Jo Jo. If someone didn't watch Evangelion becuase of the memes for Evangelion, I wouldn't blame them. I noticed, most people don't watch FMA 2003 either even though that show is meme'd more than brotherhood. |

Shoujo ai and shounen ai fans seem to fight every so often on which is better. And I don't mean those jokes or general trolling but those who will go "so you hate lesbians/gay. You know lesbian/gay love is much more pure etc." and my favorite how both will start ship wars. So basically those who think they're "woke" and push some agenda are worst kind, god help you if you say you prefer straight ships over GL/BL. For the yaoi one I just remember the cringe that teenagers bring with it. One time I agreed with someone how a yaoi manga that was categorized "romance" and included rape could have been better without it, apparently made both us homophobic assholes who think every gay man is a rapist lol. Someone32 said: The Sailor Moon fandom is pretty cool. I don't really hear from them anymore, but the fans I do see seem nice.
