I have a question for, well, most of you, who rate anime... How do you manage to translate the whole spectrum of emotions and opinions you had while you had something watched into a single number?

| I count the number of gasps or grunts and then subtract that with the number of highschool bells. |

| Enjoyement fam,I rate on how much I liked the anime so it can only go from 6-10 since I usually pick shit I like. |
| By making a list of indicators and making questions for each of them. Next, I rate those questions with 1-10 likert scale which is the level of agree/disagreement I have related to those questions, which is resulting ordinal scores. Since ordinal scale can't be quantified, I give those raw scores a weight assuming the data follows gaussian distribution by using z-score, which is resulting interval scores that can be quantified. After that, by sum up each every items weighted score for each likert scale, I make ten interval categories which I gives a number (1 - 10, same as Mal's rating scale) which do not have any special meaning. Then, I gives a score to an anime based on which interval it's summed weighed score fallen. |

| I personally use a review system, I'll sometimes go back over the list looking at the scores, if I see something that seems odd I'll open it up and remember what the show is. I use this opportunity to reflect back on the show and determine if the score it has is appropriate, if not it gets adjusted. For instance, if remembering the show I think to myself, man I really should watch that again, and then do, there is a chance I'll raise the score, however if I look back and can't remember much at all about the show and have zero desire to watch it again, the score (if not already low) will be lowered. Don't really get around to this all the often though, as the list keeps getting bigger :P |

| Well, normally you have something that "Sets the Bar." This will usually be an anime that you found to be really fucking good - that anime has officially set the bar for anime that you consider to be "really fucking good" and you give that a number, like a 9. From now on you compare other anime you watch to this bar you set earlier. That simple, brotha. |

Then you ask yourself, "Was the anime good/bad, what did it do right/wrong, what did you like/dislike, and did the good outweigh the bad/bad outweigh the good." Then you insert the "number" you think it falls under, based on what you thought about it. The end. |

| ((How good I thought it was/10)+(how much I enjoyed it/10))/2=rating This is why 5 is both my most common and my most ambiguous rating. 10/10 means both were extremely high and 1/10 means both were extremely low, but 5 can be a product of a lot of different combinations of numbers. |

| Many people rate it differently and for different reasons. I rate it in a way that allows me to get a good grasp on my taste. How I summarise it all into one number? No, I summarise it into 5 numbers then average them. |

You watch one anime. You give it a 10. It's the best anime you've watched overall. You watch two anime. Maybe the second wasn't as good as the first, so you give it a 9. Etc. Etc. This simply means that you involuntarily compare them at some point. And you end up having "pedestals" for each grade. Like, you compare an anime you just watched to a solid 8 in your list, and then you ask yourself in your head if it's clearly more or less than that and you end up with a number. There. | I don't really. Ratings are not for expressing complicated emotions like that. They're for putting anime in relation to each other, not necessarily give a lot of information about what exactly I thought about them. You'll have to ask me if you want to know the details. The number just means I value it more than the lower rated shows and less than the higher rated shows. |

| hmmm... I guess I just finish watching an anime and then I ask myself "How much did I like the anime overall?" then on the numbers there's always the Masterpiece definition for 10, Great for 9, Very Good for 8, etc. So I think "Did I really enjoy it so much as to give it a 10?" or "Did I not like so much as to not give it an 8?" (these numbers are exemples) so wherever I think is a right number for my enoyment that's the number I give :) Sorry it's kind of a long reply, but I do think quite a lot before I give any ratings :p |

| My ratings tend to be a comparison of personal enjoyment. I enjoyed Toradora about as much as FMA:B, so they both get the same rating even though they are wildly different genres. Just like Sora no Otoshimono and Tokyo Ghoul. It really depends on how bothered I am with flaws whilst watching. I loved everything about Steins;Gate and Madoka Magica and found nothing I disliked about them whilst watching. This earns them a 10/10 on my list. I found that charlottes ending was rushed, but that was the only problem with it in my opinion, so I gave it a 9/10, and so on. |

| First off ignore all other opinions were all rubbish. Your thoughts emotions and feels are your own and only you can quantify them. Numbers are arbitrary. Did you like it? Rate it high. Hate it? Rate it low. Ignore others numbers for your enjoyment of anime will be different from mine and others. |

| I just try and remember my overall experience with the show, the numbers might not reflect 100 percent accurately how I felt about a series, but I feel like they can sum up how I generally regard the series, even if I have countless things to say about it. Since the site gives you the option to rate the series I thought I might as well, but the options given such as masterpiece, or great, or bad, can be a good starting indication of my opinion on the series, but I don't consider those ratings the end all be all of my viewpoint on a series, you would have to ask me specific questions to get a clearer outlook on my viewing experience. |
