Uh... did you like, not watch death billiards? that wasn't what was happening at all.

The balls were "synced with the appearance of your organs", pocketing them did nothing, you've confused it with the first episode of death parade with the darts that caused pain.

Second straight episode of plot development. I am pleasantly surprised.

I'm glad they explained the existence of the arbiters a bit more here. And yet I'm confused as to certain things which have been portrayed. Ginti is quick to a temper, but why is that even possible, considering rule 3 states clearly that arbiters are without emotions as they are essentially dummies who have never experienced death. Unless Nona has tampered with both Ginti AND Decim, this would make no sense, and yet considering how positively easy Ginti flairs up, I'm surprised none of the other arbiters, the other staff, nor Oculus has noticed that this arbiter has actual emotions (which is specifically against the rules).

For events of this episode, I'm assuming either Nona really did want to mess with Ginti, or that his walking to Decim at the beginning was actually to confide with him that he was unable to judge Mayu, and hence her remaining at Ginti's floor.

We got a bit more info on the state of the world and the tower. 7000 deaths per hour with limited time to process and filter all the memories for judgement. You can totally tell that Quin and her colleagues are overworked, leading to possible lapses in the filtering process (or even them doing a half-assed job), resulting in imperfect and possibly incorrect judgments on the part of arbiters (though in that case, totally not their fault). Because of this situation, I'm actually seeing the merits of using those cheat-sticks to force the game participants to drag out their inner evil. It makes for an easier job for the arbiter when judging. That Decim seems to respect the lives lived by his guests makes for a more comprehensive judgment overall. I think this is sort of like an internal revolution that Nona is trying to start here, by secretly enabling Decim's emotions somehow. I'm curious to know what exactly her purpose for doing so is though. She herself mentions that there was little time to begin with, so what is she trying to do with Decim and her current 5-year experiment?

Looking forward to next episode, because it seems this "special pair" will instead of being your average game of the week fare, will actually be used to push the plot somehow.

Another episode full of info ... so seems like there are three main "rules" for arbiters eh? Nona implanted Decim with human emotions and pretty much broke the third one (surprising considered how stoic he normally is). Plus it seems like his name (Decim) was chosen because of the place/floor he was on eh? Plus the test he and Ginti went through when Quin was still there ... so much info! I guess that explains his empathy and stuff. Poor Quin too, she looks overworked in the Information Bureau processing the memories ... and Nona has to deal with all of this too. Seems like she got some "special" people sent to Decim next week so that should be interesting to watch!
Oh and also Assistant's memories seem to be coming back. The book Chavvot was read to her as a child it seems? Interesting that Nona had it sent from the human world to her as well ... hmm, I wonder what this has got to do with things? Oh and not to mention the mannequins that Decim builds are actually the bodies of the people who go through there ... weird O_O Plus Mayu's still with Ginti somehow ... did she not get judged? I guess that explains what Ginti was asking the other arbiters at the beginning :O
ANYWAY! Hopefully we'll get some more info and another good game episode next time! :3

I'm pretty sure that when the rules mention how arbiters can't have emotions, they mean human emotion. Ginti clearly exhibits emotions, but he has no ability or desire to understand emotions of humans (possibly why he's having trouble judging Mayu - but he still looks down on humans and doesn't care about their feelings at all). Decim, on the other hand, is apparently Nona's test of an arbiter who has emotion - or rather, more human emotions, as he seems to be emotionless altogether on the surface. His respect to past guests is definitely a "human" trait compared to other arbiters, who don't understand why they should care about their guests after making a judgement because they'll inevitably forget, anyway.

I think Decim's going to get some special guests next time so Nona can really test his performance. She seems to be running out of time with Oculus.

I thought this episode was a little slow, but it was definitely necessary. It established more background of the arbiters and the tower and also gave us some more plot to drive the show forward. Interested to see how this business with Nona and Decim turns out.

qualification of an arbiter is no emotions...then Nona is quite questioned with Decim because Nona thinks Decim might be the 1st arbiter to evolve and change in to an arbiter with human feelings and Nona wants to know if it would also change the way they judge...An Arbiter that has human feelings might change the one-dimensional way of their judging.

Yeah, Ginti seems always in an irritable mood with no provocation; he was even annoyed/jealous when the cat was feeling comfy in Mayu's arms. Why is that, I wonder, when it shouldn't even be possible for Ginti to KNOW what anger is.
Other than that, it's kinda amusing to watch him interact with Mayu; I think he got really confused at her when she chose to sacrifice herself instead of throwing that idol into the pit so it became impossible to judge her properly, thus keeping her around.

And we get an explanation for Decim's fascination with those dolls. The one she showed Onna, that was Machiko from ep1, right?

Nona getting scared was funny, but what could she be up to, saying there's not much time and presumably sending Decim what seems to be a difficult pair to judge.

As far as I understood, Decim is a test subject: an arbiter with human feeling implanted. I guess there is not much time left to prove that he is a success and thus sending him a really hard case to test him for good seems to be her try to solve the situation.

Awesome, we finally meet Quin, with a reference to Death Billards.
I respect Decim as much as he respects humans. The reason for his hobby is actually quite sincere and thoughtful.
But I guess that's what happens when he has human emotions.
Maybe Ginti also has human emotions 'cause he hasn't judged Mayu yet.

Something big will be happening because of what Nona's doing, but as for next time, we'll have a normal game!
And by that, of course it won't be a normal game.
I’m always searching for something, for someone. This feeling has possessed me I think, from that day… That day when the stars came falling.

Outstanding episode. Lots of character development and lots of questions brought to the table. So, despite Decim's attitude, it seems like he actually has human emotions. His hobby is really touching, and the interactions between him and Onna are hilarious. I don't understand what Nona stands to gain from a successful experiment, though. Is it just the better judging of the dead, or is it something more?

It's kinda funny Ginti hating on every single thing, yet he's more like Decim than he's willing to admit, since both of them haven't judged a woman yet.

Decim's hardest test is nigh.

nona, dont go pls
Or was she talking about Decim?

Anyway, very interesting episode about where the arbiters come from, even if we are still missing some pieces. If I understood well, the humans that die get their ''soul'' transfered into some puppet? So that mean it isn't their own body, right?

The arbiters are supposed to not have emotions, though Ginti seem to be a pretty emotive man himself :/
He even kept the crazy girl because he couldn't judge her!

Decim ''hobby'' was creepy and depressing. That girl he reproduced was the girl from the first episode, right? The fact that he does those puppets might be a small sign of guilt from him.

The book shenanigans seem to come from Nona. It look like she's trying to bring her back her memories. Now, I'l sketch something that is probably far from the reality, but could Nona be trying to create an artificial human (Decim) and an artificial relationship/complicity (Decim & Onna)? What I mean by that is that from Onna memories, it's almost like she has known someone ''similar'' to Decim in the past, but that totally contradict the fact that arbiters are dolls. Maybe she's trying to create someone that never existed with the memories of someone else... I don't know, I'm confusing myself by thinking too much about it xD

Decim has more class and self-respect than most of the arbiters in that place, his human emotions may be a flaw in passing judgement but should that be the case, Kurokami will be there to assist him :) Glad to see she regain her memory :)

Decim's respect for people who lived fulfilled lives is on a different level. Didn't really expect that his "hobby" to collect dummies was directly related to it. In a way, it's very reverent of him, rather than creepy.

Word. This episode made Decim a very interesting character. I love how this show dedicates episodes to actually developing the central cast. I mean, I would've been content if this show was nothing more than a new game between new characters every episode.

This show is on its way to becoming one of my favorite anime for certain.

Interesting episode. We got a lot of new information and back story.

Nona quite remembered about her past life the moment she saw the "Chavvot" book.

I didn't expect that his hobby to collect the dummy was related to his respect for people who lived fulfilled lives. So those dummies were formed from the past guests.

So he's an arbiter with human emotions. Nona and Oculus said arbiters are just dummies and can't be humans. I wonder how they work themselves.

Of course, Mayu is still there, thought the reason behind of it is not quite clear.

A lot of mystery is going on here, it seems.

Haha Ginti can't decide with Mayu.

Hmm, Nona has been reading and re-reading that story, which I guess would explain her mindset and cause for creating this scenario. Definitely creates more depth to this anime than simple judgements passed for humans.

Such a great episode :D

  • Decim is Nona's experiment of introducing an arbitrator with emotions.
  • Kurokami is starting to remember her death again.
  • We finally meet Quin.
  • Ginti is stuck with Mayu cuz he can't judge her xD
  • The old man is getting more and more terrifying. Who is he?

I wonder what kind of people will Decim receive if they require an advanced arbitrator. Serial killers?

So Decim is suppose to have human feelings? Strangely enough he seems to have less than anybody else to me. His always expressionless to the max.
Also i don't get how the others don't feel anything? Their behavior shown anything but lack of emotions.
If Nora felt nothing why would she be curious and attach to her little experiment with Decim? Or even worry about consequences if she gets caught? How does the red hair guy get irritated and angry all the time?
The Arbiters would no different from my damn vacuum cleaner if they had no feelings.
Even the old guy missing Nora and their games is a feeling or getting bored is a feeling.

Not so impactful in terms of pure emotion and genuine, but again, the episode succeeds in his dirty work to get me to excite and engage the story. Finally it dig much lunge from the past on issues judges and there are also posed questions about why. Damn slow narration, plays his levied on characterization; I hope there is time for Mayu and Quin.
Small mistake that I did not like, because the protagonists from small to large, never change the hairstyle? D:
