I read manga, watch superhero movies and enjoy anime and they all seem to possess some really great stories of people with insane powers or amazing skills or just great comedy but then I look at humanity in the real world and I feel like it pales in comparison to its fictional representatives. What is it that makes this reality better than some anime or cartoon's universe? (And this is supposing they too exist in their own universes free from manipulation of some author's will in case anyone wonders.)

Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?

Who says the real world is better? The entire point of fiction is that it is larger than life.

Yes. Fiction is fun only because it is fiction and it is limited as well.
Though it is part of our lives to a certain degree.

What about reality is better? Nothing. Fiction is written to be interesting, whereas life can be anything but. Out of the billions of men in the world, only a tiny little fraction have gotten a triple blowjob from three bombshells, and an even smaller fraction of people in general live it up with all the money they could want and all the attention in the world. And even those people still have utterly shit lives compared to the glory that is fiction.

Personally, I like the imperfections that exist in reality.
Usually, fiction merely mimics reality; there's an interest in making characters seem real or easy to relate to, real emotions, making plausible plots, etc.
Reality is unrivaled in the sense that there are not scripts (unless you work in the entertainment industry).
Everything that's happening now, as dull as one might find it, exists.
You're not surrounded by pretty 3d models or perfectly paint-bucketed-in-PaintToolSai buildings: this is it.

Mama, just killed a man, put a gun against his head. Pulled my trigger, now he's dead.
Mama, life had just begun. But now I've gone and thrown it all away.

But back on topic,

Pretty much what I was going to say as well. Fiction will become the norm and the norm will become fiction. Or something like that.

So I'll stick with real life.

Better based on your perception of your environment around you.

Someone who can walk can dream to fly

While those who can fly can dream to walk

It's more about doing something different from the average everyday.

But I dont like people saying bold statements like thag without a more thorough explanation, its disheartens me to see people give up on the potential reality holds to a fantasy world that might just exist in a few 100 pages of some book.

Fiction is suppose to be better than reality so it can entertain us.
If our reality now became like fiction, then we would make the fiction of that alternate reality better.
It would become boring.
Real life is shit no matter what.

When reality is good, nothing can beat it. But in general, it's pretty bad and boring. The feeling you get when you understand that this is life, and it won't give you more, this is what you'll get.

Don't get me wrong I love fantasy, thread asked a simple question, and I answered with a simple reply. To go in further, fantasy is ones own imaginative construct put in universally comprehendable material, these constructs are an example of ''Good in theory, bad practically'' Imagine if the world had super powers, wars would use much more human resources than they already do. The real world is balanced, that is how it's going to be.

Let me quote a timeless saying ''We don't know valuable something is until we lose it'' go watch Imawa kuni, it's not quite what we're talking about, but it does take quite a good look at escapism.

Well, this is more of a perspective thing. Fantasy worlds are crafted by real people. They are born in real people's minds. That means they are of this world.

I think reality is pretty fun. You never know how people decide to do. Whereas fiction, you have no control at all what happens in the story. You're just a casual observer.

Try playing through persona 4 for days none stop living a fake life in which you are invested in then when its over, you look at your sad empty real life around you and realize nothing you do will ever be anything close to feeling as meaningful and life affirming as you see in fiction.

real life has potential to be good, better than you *could imagine* but thats for a very small minority and in reality its just bad and fiction is way better

Is it reality that sucks or are people just not strong enough to deal with the burden that this world puts on you, this place has the potential that absolutely no game could compare to yet you give up on it because its benefits are not being handed to you on a silver platter, unlike some video game you need to create your own goal and most people cant even get that far. If you want something you'll have to sacrifice something else in order to get it or at least thats what I think.

Reality is.. real. The genuine authenticity of the raw feelings that comes with it is superior to any make-believe. It is something that a person will carry for years, resentment, pain, or happy things. While fiction, no matter how grandiose it is are easily washed away, because the way we experience fictions are impersonal. Fiction is detached from what we are, it is relatable, but it didn't define us.

fiction exists within reality. You can't say fiction is better than reality without understanding previously that the first would not exist without the second.
