Great episode with beautiful imagery and also despair.

The water scenes imo are glorious yet also covered with a dark mood. Well it's obvious about that considering the Mushi. The rain was lavishly well done to portray the episode too imo. "You're everywhere" ;_;

The uko mushi...

That was quite the episode. Ginko giving the mother medicine and Yuuta's symptoms wasn't as bad. Seeing Yuuta playing with other kids was a good thing. Given the chance to get rid of the uko, the flash flood had quite the tense atmosphere.

The mother being the one that drowned :/ Yuuta merging with the uko to that point and with him disappearing just like that. The encounter that saved their lives and Yuuta being everywhere was a pretty amazing sight. This was interesting as always with its bittersweetness ;_;

AAAAAAAAARGH MY FEELS!!!!!

A majestic imagery of alienation, love, and despair. The mother tried to make her son "normal" again with a mindset that they will be happy with it, but instead lost him. But her son, like water, is everywhere "with a different name".

5/5. Now if you excuse me, I want to go to Himalaya to find Yeti and beat him up to pulp so I can regain my manliness.
HOW TO SAVE ANIME IN THREE SIMPLE STEPS

  1. To have Mars of Destruction, Skelter Heaven, and Pupa properly adapted in TV series form by Madhouse
  2. To have Inferno Cop properly adapted in TV series form by Bones, director: Urobuchi Gen
  3. An anime crossover of Mushishi x ARIA x Haibane Renmei.

Should even one of the above conditions cannot be done, anime is still at risk.

That uko mushi... Yuuta was one with it. It was so sad to watch him disappear like that.
The rain was really well drawn, everything involving water too.
After he said that he never drown it raised my alarm, his mother was hiding something. That mother surely lived a tragic life, both husband and son dead :(.
The last months of Yuuta were really nice, playing with his friends and with his health improving.

Honestly I was not expecting that.
I remember Mushi-shi had bad (As in, sad) endings in the original series and I don't remember there being many sad endings in the new series.
So it sort of caught me off guard.
Beautiful episode, as always.

So if Ginko knew from the start it was her who drowned, he would not use this medicine and flood as mushi remedy and the boy would be still living?

"Aquamarine" is one of those bittersweet chapters, but more bitter than sweet with some feels..

Mushi Trivia

Even if for a brief period of time, it was nice seeing Yuuta being able to play with the other kids.

Ginko's reaction to getting called an "Oji-san" was pretty funny! Well, since the beginning of Mushishi, he hasn't aged that much.

Flood scene was very tensed. Finally, the Uko is gone, but the aftereffect was quite tragic..

Yuuta's mom had such an unfortunate past, losing her husband in an accident and then giving birth to an abnormal child, who was fearful to everyone.
Now, she lost her son too.. T_T

Great episode! The only solace Yuuta's mom has now is the thought that he's everywhere. Still, so sad..

Maybe. But probably with the cost that Yuuta will still be the same as he was.

Such a sad ending :(

The scene when Yuuta just vanished was just so surreal :O I couldn't believe it at first. Damn! Why is this series so damn amazing?!?! DEM FEELZ T^T Poor mom and the end when she was "Ur everywhere right Yuuta?" was so emotional D:

Ginko was awesome as usual too. His reaction to "Old" was lol but really though...The way he can keep calm in all situations is just amazing.

The thing that made it more awesome is that if not for the Uko they would have both died. Just goes to show it's never the Mushi's fault.

It's cruel. I was so worried that she would commit suicide at the end. Hopefully, she came in terms that it's not worth ending a life which got saved by her child.

I've been blown away by the amazing atmosphere that was emitted during this episode. It completely enshrouded me with its ambience. The good sound effects aided in that regard as well.

Yuuta's mother is very strong. She was able to put up with the loss of her husband and still raise a child all by herself. Too bad the Uke couldn't feel the motherly love. It did save both mother and child, but it ended ultimately scarring the mother in an extremely cruel way.

The last scene where Yuuta's mother was standing in the rain, reminiscing her son felt very emotional.

Aw man...another tear-jerker. So sad that
but it was a miracle that they both lived for as long as they did, so I guess that's something to be grateful for.

That makes me wonder...when Gingo didn't want Yuuta calling him "old man", how old was he again? I assume he's somewhere in his 20's-30's.

I did not see that coming. Seriously, the kid disappearing just blew my mind
Anyway, the first scene in the episode (the mom drowning in the river) reminded me of that moving swamp episode in season 1 and for a moment I was expecting a continuation of that and i really got excited. This turned out to be even better, though.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

Lol, the kid probably called him that, just because of his hair, but it hit just the right/wrong button with Ginko XD

If it wasn't for the mushi, both Yuuta and her mom would have both died.

But then again, the mushi only prolonged Yuuta's life and never saved it.

It's sadder when you realize that the mother was going to go through hell either way. I'm glad, though, that she came to accept the reality and decided to keep her son in her memories forever.

...

On a random but relevant note, Yuuta's mom made the right decision by accepting her son's fate, unlike that one guy who decided to keep denying the harsh reality and live his life in an eternal loop with his wife (episode 2).

Same, especially since she had despaired once before when she lost her husband, and also all that time worrying about Yuuta being different, or going to the river in the middle of night. When she finally had hope that Yuuta would become normal, only to lose him in the end. Nevertheless, I believe that she will not end her life, because at the end, she seemed, in a heartbreaking way, happy that Yuuta is "everywhere." Beautiful yet so painful. I didn't cry when Yuuta died, until Ginko told her that the mushi saved both her kid and herself, and then tears started falling out from her eyes.

They did a great job on water sound effects, from torrential rain to river gushing to the drizzles of rain.

This episode was absolutely perfect. After a few quieter episodes the storm finally returns. Once again Mushishi captures the vibrant feeling of being in the middle of nature, I felt like I was right out in that storm and the sense of flooding was very well conveyed (not to mention it was raining heavily where I live). The way that these mushi impact nature and the people around them never ceases to amaze me, Yuuta's case was a very tragic one. The part that hit me the hardest was when his mother was out in the rain at the end, wondering what's become of her son. In a way, the essence of what he had become was everywhere - in the rivers, the sea, the ocean, and the clouds. That moment when Yuuta suddenly vanished sent a surge of shock to my eyes which made it feel like tears would flood out in a similar fashion to this episode.

the moment he disappeared, I was like "oh Shit!"

It did fill up my eyes...but that happens now and then when I''m watching mushishi.

Anyways, excellent ep as always. But like someone else commented here, the animation seemed to have taken a dip in this episode. It almost seems like they're low on budget.

When the flood occured, and we spent a good 15 or so seconds on shots of the flowing water...that was magical. this is what sets mushishi apart from everything else. it isn't afraid to take the time to build the atmosphere and swallow you up in it.

Such fascinating and tearful episode, it really touched my soul witnessing Yuutu evaporating to the sky
It was also the first time for me to see Ginko charges money to the Mushi patients he stumbles upon while traveling

Leaving out the OP for extra content was already a hint to something extra to the usual high standard of storytelling of this show
The water scenes aren't as stunning as Nemo or Nagi no Asukara yet it's art style and animation is so appealing with the soundtrack

This has to be one of the most heart-breaking Mushishi episodes ever…

Needless to say, it was brilliant. The atmosphere was particularly mesmerizing—from the backdrop of the forest, to the sight of rain and the sound of flowing water during the flood. For a moment, it felt as if there was nothing else in the world.

Then, the ending…

“You’re everywhere.” ;_;
I think, then procrastinate.
Therefore, I am.

Wow. Did not expect the child to die. Well that was dark...

Such a sad life that mother must have. Becomes pregnant, loses husband, has child, child dies. Now she lives all alone. My god is that depressing.

Wonderful episode. Mushishi never fails at making such an immersive atmosphere.
