I've read some reviews about this show i dont agree with most, so im writting my own. Now, please keep im mind that english is my second language and gramatical errors will occur (probably already have) and that this is my very first review in this site and of a series itself, also, this is my own opinion of the show and how i view and expirience it while im watching, i've seen 9 episodes so far.
So, lets start with the story:
I give the story a 8, as you can easly see in the description of the series, its about a capt. and its crew abourd a very special submarine, name I-401 that "his" a girl, has they go about in a sea that has been taken from humanity by the fleet of god (other shipts and submarines like the I-401) in order to try and take it back. Most people seem to assume its girls controling ships, and they couldn't be more wrong, the ships themselvs have a sort of AI in them, they have no capt. aside from 401 and they materialized mental images of themselvs throw nanomachines in order to do better at their job, all of them are girls simply because (aperently) humans refer to submarines in the feminine (or so it was explained in the anime), ofcourse the real reason its because its an anime and it needs lolis and sexy ladies in there :D
Has for the art, im my opinion its a solid 10, the ships, characters, the backgrounds and expecially the fighting scenes are beautiful, the animation is very good and fluid and it makes you wish you were actually in the fight yourself (or atleast i would)
I give the sound a solid 9, the intro isn't bad, the background noises and the fireing noises align very well with what is happening and give you a better sence of what is happening, the voice actors really give life to the characters, expecially Maya and Kongou imo.
The characters aren't bad, but some of them aren't all that great tbh so they only get an 8, Gunzou is the main character and the capt. of the 401, he is the general good guy you see, altho he does have a backstory that is intriguing but hasn't been too developed so far, Iona (name of the girl model of the 401) is still rather a mistery, why did she betray the fleet of the fog ? why did she went to gunzou in the first place ? there are still alot of questions, but apperently she is with him so that she can understand who she is, and why she exists. There are alot of other great characters like Maya, Takao, Kongou, etc but i wont spoil them for you since they come in abit latter.
Im really enjoying this series, the battle scenes themselvs are awesome tbh, i give it a 9, im even pumped to go read the manga once the anime ends (i dont wanna spoil the anime untill it actually ends) wich is rare for me.
I give this series a 9 so far, ofcourse this may change since there are still some episodes before the anime itself ends. If you like war themed animes, you will love this anime for sure, the fights haven't been on a great scale (like thousands of ships duking it out) but since its with such heavy weaponrie, it sorta gives you that feel.
I hope you find this review helpful, have fun watching the anime. read more
This anime is about 20 to 30 years into the future where the oceans and seas are impassable because of the ghost fleet that are terrorizing it which consist of pretty girls that controls there each is her own ship that are in a fleet that have access to unparallelled technology which consist of very gigantic guns, array of missiles, powerful laser turrets. and one of the previous captains son got on hold a very powerful sub which originated from the ghost fleet.
the art is fantastic for under/above water naval battles, it sometimes in cg, specially the pretty battleships and u-boats
what comes next to great battles is great battle effects, those metallic explosions... gunpowder smells.. lol
your MC is your typical hero, where if the conflict arises he answered the call. but what makes it interesting is your girlships, different types of ships/subs , tsundereship, loliship/sub, emoship, moeship/sub, orientalship, germanship, europeanship, bossship, cosplayership, maidship, sistership, twinship, cloneship, ghostship, sunkenship, which have each own female avatar. you got a fleet of girls.. ehem ship.
I enjoyed this anime honestly because of the different personality of each ship on how they discover their self. it is you to find out.
I picked up this anime first because I planned watching all anime this fall 2013. Im kinda surprised at first because the enemies are pretty ladies with different cloths different styles and different personalities. there are also unanswered questions on each individual characters also. It also got me interested what if the mc captured all of the enemy ships, he would have a harem party of pretty lady ships lololol.
you could try the manga also because they give a quite different PLOT but after watching the episode then stop where the episode stopped so you wont spoil the fun. =D
