Suddenly, a fleet of ships with mysterious superweapons called the "Fleet of Fog" appeared all around the world. Humanity didn't have the technology to fight such a fleet, so they were driven out of the sea.

Seventeen years after the battle, Gunzou Chihaya and his crewmates aboard the I-401 and the personification (Mental Model) of the I-401, Iona, started fighting the Fleet of Fog.

How they come to this conclusion in the first place when they supposedly can’t learn isn’t explained, read more

The storyline in this manga I must say is better than in the animes. It's deeper and more realistic. The storyline has a more meaningful character development rather than the anime and it seems like a more realistic scenario compared to the anime. All in all looking at the manga and anime as two different universes with the same characters both nearly score perfect scores. One flaw I read more
