Lol'd at Nogizaka being a best seller. It's gotta be better than the anime at least.

I guess I'll pick up Alice, it looks cool.

It's amusing that there are not one, but TWO different volumes of One Piece in the top 30; 55 and 56. Has that ever happened before?

Also, surprisingly strong openings for Souten No Ken and Hanma Baki, with roughly 75k instead of 50k. Perhaps the older seinen readers, who actually have jobs, have more free time in December they want to spend reading them?

Yeah, I'm a HUGE baki fan, I didn't expect it to be in the top 10 :o

Also watched a bit of Fist of the Blue Sky a while back :D

^rofl 3 volumes? dont think its possible
btw who told that?

JetStormG on the first page of this topic. And yes, I don't think it's possible myself, even for One Piece. That being said, their present two separate volumes in the top 30 is still astonishing.

Nah, that was my fault. I was thinking 3 separate volumes when I had actually seen volumes chart on the top 30 for 3 straight weeks at a time. I'm sorry for the mix up.

The fact that there have been 2 volumes ranking together is indeed astonishing though.

Eh dude I'm not going against you there. Just sharing my thought to make it clear to others that didn't know how manga sales work in Japan. You know there will be people that's going to arguing/trolling about Japanese mentality regarding manga after seeing most of the top sales manga are Shonen. :p

The last part about Shonen versus Seinen are more in general. I didn't directed it to you whatsoever^^ Damn that Smokes made me look like OPtard that can't accept anyone opinion eh? T.T

No worries, heh. I just thought you were saying that I was slagging shonen, which wasn't the case. At any rate, you're certainly correct about the sales demographics. Do you live in Japan?

lol, you are not watching the show thats why you dont understand )

onepiece started to be popular around volume 25-27, when 'the real' OP started))
so at that time the fans started to grow XD

Did you even read what I wrote? I'm well aware of how popular the One Piece manga is. I just don't see how it's possible to have a volume be on the top 30 list 6 whole months after release (or 3 separate One Piece volumes among the weekly bestsellers SIMULTANEOUSLY).

Even right now, when One Piece continues to break publishing records, they've only managed 2 volumes in the top 30 at the same time, not three. The Wikipedia link does not address this at all.

Most of the manga buyers in Japan are the "the older seinen readers, who actually have jobs" and they doesn't necessarily buy Seinen manga, they also buy Shonen (Shonen is the most popular demographic in Japan after all). It was only in US (more like online, example being MAL) where the fans split themselves in demographic. Seinen lovers bashing Shonen lovers are pretty easy to find these days.

You can only see it online where people thinks its cool for them to read Seinen/Josei whereas in Japan, it doesn't matter what demographic you read, you still look like a nerd to them. :p

You totally misunderstood what I wrote. I made no judgments about shounen versus seinen, especially since I read and enjoy both.

Rather, I meant that Hanma Baki and Souten No Ken are not particularly popular with younger fans, and thus, must rely SOLELY on the older male demographic for their sales.

Wow! *o* This made me happy! (along with One Piece's domination)
I hope they adapt Hockey Club soon. We need more good shoujo animes!

Heh, how is that even possible? The author only releases about 4 volumes a year, so that would mean a volume stays in the top 30 sellers for 6 whole months?! You'll have to show me the raw numbers, man.

It has happened a number of times. There are even a few times it has had 3 volumes at once I think.

By itself, it just sounds too crazy to be true.

wow naruto is not that popular eh

Yeah, just a mere 1.1 million copies of a single volume sold...way more than any non One Piece manga in the top 30 by a significant amount. Not popular at all.

Great to see my comments disappearing, apparently now saying that Naruto plain sucks and that Kishi is Uwe Boll is major offense against MAL.

Whatever, this was never a democracy anyway, so I will restrict myself from posting my opinions in the news, so some idiot won't get hurt by my opinions.

oh and yay for DGM.

Why the shock? One Piece has been dominating the rankings for a loooong time now ^^

Just look at the annual ranking, One Piece sells more than Naruto and Bleach combined :p

One piece on top ? O.O
Bleach, Katekyo hitman reborn, d.gray man back on the line. XD

But what happen to naruto ?

Dec 17, 2009 1:07 AM by Ig4kLone

this volume of One Piece is nothing compared to the next 2 volumes))
if 56 made ANOTHER japan record, the next 2 will have a higher record than this one, since we waited for it for like 5-6 years XD
