SynopsisHana Suzuki loves only two things in life: eating and sleeping. So when handsome classmate Izumi Oda asks Hana–his major crush–to join the school hockey club, persuading her proves to be a difficult task. True, the Grand Hockey Club is full of boys–and all the boys are super-cute–but given a choice, Hana prefers a sizzling steak to a hot date. Then Izumi mentions the field trips to fancy resorts. Now Hana can’t wait for the first away game, with its promise of delicious food and luxurious linens. Of course there’s also the getting up early, working hard, and playing well with others. How will Hana survive? (Source: Del Rey) |

When I picked up this series, it was purely because of Ai Morinaga's previous series, Your and My Secret. I imagined a limited plot line and the same characters with different names.
I was very surprised to see different personalities and a situation I had never seen before. The characters are interesting, and their relationships are fun to watch playing out.
This series is quite fun to read, and takes turns that are unexpected. Hilarious and addicting, this is a series I can't wait to finish.

When I first picked up this book I was thinking about what it might be about. After reading the summary, I thought it would just be some ridiculous romance/sport kind of story but decided to give it a go.
Upon reading the first volume, I was hooked as the personalities were so easy to relate to and the main character, Hana Suzuki, appealed to me as a funny character because of her approach to things. The unique storyline made me think for a while, as if you looked at it from different angles, it wouldn't look all that interesting. But looking upon this series, you'll find it is quite enjoyable and humorous. Well, it also obviously depends on your preferences.
Hana's lovely (lol) expressions, the first game, the quirky members of the Hockey Club, these are what make this story flow well. I haven't seen many people writing/drawing about a character like Hana. Makes me want to hug her! Hahaha. read more

Both series has a boy club that admits a girl that acts like a boy. All the boys are insanely rich while the girl is middle class. The leader of the club has a big crush on the girl, but they don't want to admit it.
Well, I haven't thoroughly tested this out, but somewhere in Volume 8 or Gokuraku Seishun Hockey Club I thought, I wonder if this is an intentional parody of Ouran High School Host Club? At least some of the time, anyway. Ouran is certainly famous enough to be parodied. There's a girl forced into a boy's club, which is totally unlike the Ouran Host Club, but the male members are rich, there is a set of twins, there's the glasses-wearing intellectual type, and there's a pretty boy (OK, he's not as short as Hunny). The heroine is somewhat odd and somewhat detached, too. The purpose of the club seems to be somewhat ill-defined in both cases. At one point the leader of the club announces a plan for the club to take on the noble cause of getting a prince to stop hating Japan, very much like Tamaki takes on noble causes. In any case, it's not a close parody. I mean, Ouran is itself a parody of other things. But it's fun to think about. You can look for your own similarities and differences.
They both have "tomboyish" girls that have been lassoed into working for/being involved in a "club" full of nothing but (rich) guys because of a debt.
That is where the similarities(?) end though. Both are very different manga, but both are good. I say go read 'em! :D
Just like rich tamaki uses poor haruhi as a toy and forces her to join their club due to a debt izumi does the same to Hana, except that their club is a "hokey" club. It has the same tipe of humor and as you read it it also has the same feel to it. If you enjoyed OHHSC you definitely enjoy this one.
These two series have a remarkably similar setup. You have the girl character who isn't especially girly, but somehow ends up attracting the attention of a super-rich guy who then decides the girl should join his all-boy club. In Ouran, it's the Host Club, in Gokuraku it's the Hockey Club. Both clubs have similar characters, the twins, and the evil guy in the glasses. And both are something of a reverse harem even though the female characters aren't especially interested in getting with any of the boys.
Both about girl's getting trapped by a club. Hana get pulled in by Izumi, who super rich 2nd year high school student and captain of the Grand Hockey Club. And Haruhi accidentally knocks over and breaks an antique vase valued at ¥8,000,000 and is told by Tamaki to repay the cost in service to the club.AKA be the club dog?!
both with twins!
both with rich guy!
not to mention a anger management chicken ! in Gokuraku Seishun Hockey Club!
What could possible happen?
(sorry about my spelling)
Both are about girls who find themselves indebted to high school clubs, full of rich, handsome boys.
This manga is almost exactly like OHSHC, except its more cracked out (and a bit more humorous in my opinion.) It takes all the flaws that Ouran has/had and fixes them up into a very lovely manga all its own.
It centres around a girl who gets roped into playing for a Ground Hockey team because they don't have enough members. She does it as sort of a favor for being hit by the idiotic male protagonists limo driver.
If you like Ouran High School Host Club try Gokuraku Seishun Hockey Club. The fact that she is pretty much forced to join a guy's club as a girl and the guys are rich is similar but the male leads are also very similar and very funny. The fact that the hockey club rarely plays hockey and is usually just their private entertainment club is funny too. The characters are really similar too, their is the prince type leader, a megane character, twins and a pretty guy, so the set up is quite similar, almost like a parody of it.
both so funny and interesting with a hint of romance. a girl is forced to join an all-boy club in both. both stories are just amazing.

First of all, I like "The Wallflower" better. "Gokuraku Seishun Hockey Club" has the same feel to it, though. Main characters are also very much alike. It's something between "The Wallflower" and "Ouran High School Host Club".
She is an average girl surrounded by handsome boys in a similar reverse harem. The fact that she is indifferent to the guys is also similar. She has her own likes ( she likes goth and skeletons and horror movies ) and she is not a feminine type character in many ways, she just likes to do her own thing and is a bit tomboyish with a goth slant to it. The guys are supposed to try to get her to be more feminine and ladylike but that never works for long. She often is the one taking care of all the guys, although they are supposed to be reforming her. She does not want to be a "radiant being" and prefers the darkness, which is often pretty funny.
