An Anime Project Presentation featuring the lead cast Shouya Chiba (Kiyotaka Ayanokouji) and Yurika Kubo (Kikyou Kushida) will stream on the Kadokawa Anime Channel on March 6 at 8:00 p.m. The special program will deliver new information about the sequel anime.
The anime series adapting Shougo Kinugasa's school psychological light novel—also known by its short title You-Zitsu—aired in 12 episodes in Summer 2017. MF Bunko J imprint published the first light novel series in 14 volumes between May 2015 and September 2019, featuring illustrations by Shunsaku Tomose (Ange Vierge). Kinugasa launched a sequel light novel the following January. Kadokawa published the fifth volume last October, with the sixth volume scheduled for release on Friday. You-Zitsu has a cumulative 6 million copies of its volumes in print, including digital editions.
Yuyu Ichino began a manga adaptation of the first light novel series in Monthly Comic Alive in January 2016. Kadokawa shipped the 11th volume last July. Shia Sasane launched a second manga adapting the sequel light novel on December 25 last year.
Seven Seas Entertainment licensed both the light novel and manga adaptation in English in July 2018 and June 2021, respectively. The tenth novel volume shipped digitally on February 17, with a planned physical release on March 15. The first manga volume will go on sale on March 1. The publisher also licensed the sequel light novel last September with a scheduled release date of July 19.
You-Zitsu placed sixth in the 2019 edition, fourth in the 2020 edition, and third in both the 2021 and 2022 editions of Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! rankings.
Synopsis
On the surface, Koudo Ikusei Senior High School is a utopia. The students enjoy an unparalleled amount of freedom, and it is ranked highly in Japan. However, the reality is less than ideal. Four classes, A through D, are ranked in order of merit, and only the top classes receive favorable treatment.
Kiyotaka Ayanokouji is a student of Class D, where the school dumps its worst. There he meets the unsociable Suzune Horikita, who believes she was placed in Class D by mistake and desires to climb all the way to Class A, and the seemingly amicable class idol Kikyou Kushida, whose aim is to make as many friends as possible.
While class membership is permanent, class rankings are not; students in lower ranked classes can rise in rankings if they score better than those in the top ones. Additionally, in Class D, there are no bars on what methods can be used to get ahead. In this cutthroat school, can they prevail against the odds and reach the top? [Written by MAL Rewrite]
