Totally agree with your takes, seems like Hideaki Anno does not care about the movies (just looking at the 3.0+1.0 documental and interviews), the franchise or even the medium itself anymore because of toxic fanbase. Mari's character is his wife self-insertion lol. Also this shit is actually a "sequel" or at least tries to be one, unnecessarily. It's weak from start to finish compared to the brilliant and way ahead of its time direction in the 1995 series and EoE were he truly had passion and dedication for his work.
>original 1995 Evangelion have a lot of problems and issues that drags it's true potential
Not saying that og 1995 was perfect (I've found only a few "issues" though) but it does accomplish its purpose very competently. The series really has many little and subtle but meaningful details out there which you can notice if you didn't after re-watching, as you can see in the examples above. Both the series and EoE complements each other.
>why would you think Ougi as peak yet Araragi as mid?
Why not? I mean, no matter how Ougi was created both are two different characters. Plus, Ougi carries and he/she still has a relevant role after Owari even without Araragi.
I don't think he himself is strong enough a character to justify being the focus of a series. Which is why I feel most Second and Off Season's method of storytelling and focus on the personal development of some of the female cast and other characters are the best the series has to offer.
The clueless male MC trope gets tired after a while, and I think that is why Nisio did it. Just like the lolicon and siscon stuff is overdone. I think that's why he has two sisters, and there are three lolis. He is going overboard to show how ridiculous it is. It is satire.
Of course he makes Araragi's memory issues and thoughtlessness work in the narrative, but I don't honestly think we are supposed to like him. He isn't a "good guy."
A criticism I have about a lot of LNs is how much time the author spends in the MCs head. While I understand that a lot of people have a lot of inner noise like that, having it be worked out through dialog or actions would be more satisfying. Araragi helps others with their issues, but I think I would enjoy reading him talk about his insecurities with the other characters. It would build ties with them and give the audience the experience of seeing the female characters be nurturing towards him.
For me, even if it's satire, it gets a bit old when your main character is still clueless 15 novels later. And I don't mean just being dense about romantic interests, I feel like Araragi sometimes questions something that should be obvious to him for the sake of making sure the reader isn't lost. When Ougi comes up and it's constantly schooling him even though they share the same information, is just salt in my wound lol
>will any of the specialists have a big role?
Nah, they're still like plot devices, as far I remember it's mostly about the main girls. Maybe in the new novel season.

>I haven't, and I don't think I will be playing it.
Bruh... Writing-wise it's better than Mushishi and most Monogatari novels imo
>What does the anime didn't show about Hanekawa that makes a huge difference to the LN?
>What is it that you say very empty and soulless?
The characterization and narration. I don't think is well portrayed compared to the novel, in my opinion. All the inner struggles or the personal growth her character is going through, both of wich are reflected through every thought in the novel, however, I don't feel any of that in those 5 chapters.
>I can't understand how you've said the anime cutted 80% of the original material
I said that and there's still a lot of removed internal monologues, it's not some filler words on pages, they slowly built the narrative and character way better and consistently than the fast-paced anime style does (hence why the substance was too bland and shallow).
Anime was family friendly as fuck, you can't deny it.
Cutting most of Hanekawa's letter which is the bible of her character is unforgivable. Obviously it was too long to adapt. But they left out the most important part where she admits she was abused - like, that was the main event of her character. And the part where she admits point blank that she remembers Golden Week. And the explanation of why she's in love with Araragi (which needs to be explained, because the second episode said "I'll talk about that later", plus people get it wrong all the time) was also cut.
Nisio wasted no time throwing in the Hanekawa suffering...
Agh, what a character. This is one of the reasons why Neko Shiro is his second peakest novel and has the best life lessons after Nademonogatari.
Hanekawa just seemed more one-dimentional and very simple-minded in the anime for me because they were mostly focused on rushing events instead showing properly her point of view to truly understand, relate and appreciate her character development taking their proper time like the novel. That's why I'm saying the writing and message are not as strong and works better as a novel.
Worth mentioning that Kaiki is also another example of a narrator who is more humanized and fleshed out in his Koi novel. Same for Nadeko in Otori (forget Hanekawa, they didn't even care about explaining the real conflict about Nadeko in the anime and she just seemed like some generic antagonist).
As for Owari, I think the mystery is handled poorly and boringly unlike the LN and also a lot of important content for the story is cut so it makes much less sense how they are resolved in the anime (looking at you, Ougi Formula).
I've already told you why I don't like the anime so much, that substance you're talking about feels very empty and soulless and doesn't come close to the novel wich explores in-depth Hanekawa's complex character (I don't quite understand still why that means LN leaves less for interpretation or analysing in retrospective to you...). Another fact, is that the full letter hits way more. It is the opposite of 2001: A Space Odyssey movie vs novel for me, were the movie it's better despite cutting all monologues and descriptions, using only the "show don't tell" narrative in the most brilliant way.
>Gaen even have to use phone camera to see Hanekawa showing how high she was and she won't reach down to your level
Is really this? I see the phone but looks she's just reading something, where's the camera lol https://youtu.be/Z0F7F2hUj6s?si=hPhPCOsZNfvN2fLF
You're over-analyzing too much, she is not a god at all but a human and there's a reason why she "knows everything", not sure if they mentioned it at some point in anime though but is kinda obvious and explained more on novels.
When they made Yotsugi with a human corpse, Kagenui and Teori (the guy from Tsukimonogatari) did the legs and their legs were cursed, now both have a curse which prevents them from touching the ground for the rest of their lives as some sort of punishment for "not knowing their place".
Meme and Kaiki did the torso and got an unspecified curse (the heart maybe? We'll never know).
Gaen did the head and was cursed to know everything.
Although the credibility of her claims over "knowing everything" may be debatable, it can be argued that she is simply good in taking advantage of what she knows and what other people do not know (hence the real reason she has the phone on his hand, information), allowing her to break down a person's confidence, like Tsubasa's confidence in her knowledge, for example.
This is the problem with the anime trying to make you analyzing
and over-analyzing every not so significant shit distracting the viewer and misunderstanding it when it's just for the sake of ARTSY mostly, is that the true substance for you? *I said with a posed look*
>Also does Frieren deserves the top #1 spot according to you?
It's not the best anime of all time but it is truly the best in years, 2023 AOTY for me. I think it has better themes than Vinland Saga S2 and Pluto.
>my computer wouldn't be able to handle them anyway.
Absolutely impossible, any potato computer or whatever you have can run it 💀💀
It's just a short pixel art game with just 167mb size, not the one from the video, all requirements are minimal. Spacebar and mouse are the only things you need to play, headphones are essential because soundtracks slaps.
It won't be disappointing, I swear, at least give it a try when you have free time (an hour or even less).
Yes, I think it's better overall. To be fair, I prefer Monogatari novels rather more instead anime.
At first I believed it was a good shonen with good action, however, now after being following the manga and anime for months I've started to notice its several problems. That is to say, no matter how much top-notch animation and soundtrack Jujutsu Kaisen has, it is nothing different from the average shonen in the last years. Characters, their characterization and motivations are still terribly poor and bland. The plot although generic had potential but like I said, it ends up being another average fight shonen. The manga is about to reach its end and I'll surely lower the rating when that happens. Plus, Frieren clears 📠🗣️
Will you consider playing the game? It can be finished in less than an hour, really. An hour of INSANITY. Did I ever tell you the definition of insanity? https://youtu.be/9Cwi1sIWQEw?si=9CwCv0wEG0e7RD5B

>What are you implying?
Just pointing hypocritical people on Twitter making those kind of threads about over-analyzing generic shonen all the time, I saw that one recently lmao
I understand your point and agree it's cool aesthetically, the soundtrack always will be peak. Can't wait for Off Season anime ngl 🙏🙏
Talking about cool aesthetics and great soundtracks, there's a very short and simple but fun as fuck underrated videogame. Hotline Miami, set in an alternative 1989 Miami where you're a silent hitman like John Wick (it has a non-chronological plot, you have to make your own interpretations through the levels). https://steamunlocked.net/4eaf2-hotline-miami-free-download/
That was a joke but honestly like 90% of anime romanticizes escapism and otaku fantasies. I was referring that none did it as subtle and perfect as Tatami Galaxy. I also consider the consistency (on all aspects) very important for art.
Yeah, Fullmetal Alchemist is still quite good and has two of the best shonen fight arcs out there on the same level with Quimera Ant or Anti-Spiral War but why do you mention Asspull no jutsu? I mean, from the lauded "Big Three" Naruto is easily the one with less quality, the most retarded and contradictory wich automatically invalides anything about it. How to watch 500+ anime episodes and not consider it escapism? Is quantity better than quality? Is the anti-escapism really strong and not missed at some point?
A:"How pretentious dude, it's just a shonen dude"
Also A:"Nietzschian analysis of individuality in Jujutsu Kaisen 🥸"
Visuals or aesthetics aren't everything to consider something great art but I can assure that everything shown on Tatami Galaxy has a significant purpose, relevant and symbolic pushing the narrative, characters and message.
On the other hand, I can't say the same about the narrative and direction in Monogatari anymore after re-watching it (even ignoring the fanservice), not that it is bad but it's not that great either, I know it has purpose but I think there's a lot of it that adds little or no value to the series.
3-Gatsu no Lion seems the best artistic thing from Shaft to me.
Peak fiction, the show it's more interested in presenting thematic and character struggles than offering escapism. In fact, it offers the opposite of escapism and asks the viewer to evaluate their own attitudes toward their lives and circumstances. In this way I think it's more Art with a capital "A" than literally all the anime industry.
There's not really anything that I think the show did wrong, it exploited the premise at its fullest perfectly.
The art and visual styling is incredible; the subtlety is brilliant and the cyclical plot is compelling; characters are varied, interesting and full of personality; and overall the show provides a very unique experience that is quite memorable and re-watchable with only 11 chapters.
