At the second "Walküre ga Tomaranai" concert in Yokohama on Sunday, it was announced that Shoji Kawamori's Macross franchise will receive a new TV anime in 2018. Commemorating the series' 35th anniversary, a "super dimensional visual project" is currently under planning. In addition, future live events, planetarium project, and merchandise programs have also been planned. The concert held on Sunday is set to be released in Blu-ray and DVD.

Macross is a sci-fi mecha franchise featuring an alternate history of earth and humanity after the year of 1999. The series has inspired four TV anime, six OVA series, six movies, and several light novel and manga adaptations. The latest TV anime in the franchise, Macross Δ (Macross Delta), aired in Spring 2016 for 26 episodes.

[quote=AngelicTotoro message=49630362]Delta was a cringe fest, so hopefully he'll tone down the idol bull and explore characters/relationships much much better. Just gimme good dog fights, decent aliens (NO ROYALTY), a female lead that isn't 12 and I'm sold.

Absolutely. Decent aliens like the Zentraedi who got shafted in Delta.

Only good thing about delta was mikumo's VA (for the songs) and they kept using her for the wrong type of music anyway.

Fights, characters, action and the idol theme were all poorly done imo. So hopefully they go back to frontier or SDF style and pay more attention to the story and the character development.

Delta was definitely guilty of having way too many characters and the close minutes of the final episode pretty much proved that ..

So yeah, less Delta more Frontier/SDF

I have a lot of catching up to do. I love huge franchises like this as there is lots of material to watch/read, but it's bothersome seeing airing anime that I can't watch.

I don't want another Delta... but I'll still watch it.

@Tarotist You could also watch Do you remember Love? and get out of Macross with a fully satisfying experience.
(add maybe Plus for all the noise it made, or II for more of Mikimoto's designs)

If only Macross could follow Gundam's footsteps and remember to satisfy fans of the classic series as well. But I guess Kawamori is going all in on the current Idol craze and is probably gonna give us another series of the Idolm@ster: Variable fighters edition. Such a shame...

I'm a huge Macross fan, I've been one since the 80's. But I actually dropped watching Delta. It wasn't really Macross IMHO, more just a J-Pop singing show that happens to have Valkyries.

I have a feeling Delta probably was very successful, so they are going to make more of the same thing.

Unpopular opinion but I personally liked Macross Delta. I look forward to this.

After that piece of shit Delta was, which might actually even top 7 in how bad it is, I really can't give a damn about new series from Kawamori. He's trying hard to prove that Aquarion wasn't just an accident and I don't need to see that.

Kind wish we could have just gotten a new Macross altogether. I liked Macross F, but not so much of Macross Delta.

I lost all my faith in Shouji Kawamori, I doubt this Macross won't be a trainwreck.
Less plot, more music and milking.

Maybe think Positive and believe in him more

ya bit soon... maybe spend more time reflecting how to revitalize the franchise.
I'd prefer more battroid fights than jet fights. They start with Hayate robot break dancing skills, which had so much potential in fights but they limited most to aerial engagements.
And that sad triangle & lack of dev in many characters. For idol battle show it was ok but even far from akb0048.
Kawamori interviews sometimes refer to mystery 'sponsor' who limits plot & art elements, including the triangle requirement. Maybe start by finding a more open sponsor?

Just when I finish Macross, I thought I only had to watch 7, Frontier, and Delta, and now this one comes up? Well I'm glad it's still going. More anime for me to watch next year!

Great news. Hope it'll be good like Delta.

Haha, No Not Delta.

Something like Macross Frontier is what I really want to see if it is Delta then no thanks. However Delta has way better soundtracks so combine both for the perfect recipe

Well, Delta was quite good. Not great but good at least.....

I was saying I don't want to see anything worse. Of cos if it can be as good as Ai Oboete Imasu ka it'll be better.
