The official website for Isin Nisio's and Take's Zaregoto Series has announced that the upcoming OVA series will be produced by studio Shaft and consist of eight episodes. In addition to the studio and episode count, the main cast and staff members for the series were revealed in a teaser ad during the screening of Kizumonogatari II: Nekketsu-hen. Each episode will be released on Blu-ray and DVD between October 26, 2016 and May 24, 2017.

Cast
Boku: Yuki Kaji (Fukigen na Mononokean)
Tomo Kunagisa: Aoi Yuuki (Qualidea Code)

Staff
Character Design: Akio Watanabe (Bakemonogatari)

Written by Isin Nisio and illustrated by Take, the light novel was announced to receive an anime adaptation in May of this year. The novel series published nine volumes between 2002 and 2005, with a seven-volume spin-off, titled Ningen Series, published between 2004 and 2010. In 2014, the duo launched a second spin-off novel, titled Saikyou Series. The first and second volumes of the series were released in North America by Del Rey in 2008 and 2010, respectively.

Not sure how I feel on this one tbh. It looks great given Shaft is producing it, but since this is a Nisio Isin work it would probably take several years at the minimum to tell everything.

Another Yuki "Fucking" Kaji lead role...smh

I thought we were going to have to wait until next year for this... so glad that it doesn't seem to be the case, plus it's being done by Shaft so it's safe to say that I'm pretty pumped for this.

Well, at least I know one thing will be good about it: the music.

I find it funny how they kept one thing I didn't want to be re-used from the Monogatari series (the character designs) and replaced the one thing I thought would suit Zaregoto from Monogatari (the soundtrack). Oh well, the format is great though and this is obviously for marketing purposes which I'm not too against as I do want it to do well so that I might get to finally see what happens in the untranslated novels.

I don't have much of an opinion on the VAs other than I guess that Yuki Kaiji is a bit of a weird choice, though I'm sure he'll do a decent job. It'll be interesting to see who will direct this.

If only this have Katanagatari art. *sigh*
Well, anyways my wallet body is ready for everything.

Now let's wait to see who will direct this

Damn, I was hopeful for this as I liked the first two novels but Yuki Kaiji as the main character is a huge downside for me. The character designs are another downside, I feel like White Fox's interpretation of Take's art was good and this just looks generic. If this has Shinbou as the director I'm not sure if I even still want to watch it.

I'm guessing they are testing the waters with the OVA episodes and if they do well they'll make a tv show. It is good that they are adapting the novel so thoroughly though so that it will be a quality show regardless. With yuki kaijura on the ost it'll either be really boring and samey (see sao, erased and zero to an extent) or really cool (kara no kyoukai and madoka).

Shaft x NisiOisin x Yuki Kajiura is enough to get me extremely excited for this. A bit disappointed that they strayed away from the original character designs as White Fox with Katanagatari already showed that they could adapt well into anime format (feel like the designs for both of them are similar) but Monogatari series type designs are great still, so I guess it's alright, guess it'll help them with marketing. Also straight to BD, which is good for me as now won't be tempted to watch the TV version before the BDs plus 8 episodes for the 1st volume is awesome. Just hope the next few volumes are TV releases to ensure a quicker release schedule.

A bit disappointed with character designs as the VERY unique designs of Zaregoto did not translate that well and understandable had to be simplified for anime. They also most likely chose this purposefuly to draw a familiar line to Monogatari which is smart marketing.

Disappointed with music choice as it pretty much means we will have a single gothic chorus on repeat for the whole show but oh well, I am not watching this for OST anyway.

Either way excited. Now if only we knew who is directing.

Shaft + NisiOisiN + Yuki Kajiura!? That is a must watch.

Aug 20, 2016 12:15 AM by Illyricus

Well, the Monogatari series is pretty much a 6, so hip, hip, meh.

Aug 19, 2016 11:27 PM by MZXJ

Yeah I'm down with this
I wonder if this will be as strong as Monogatari in the sales department

all ready to market!

Personally, I would've preferred Megumi Ogata to voice I, but oh well. The production committee must have some good reason to choose him.

Akio Watanabe's designs don't look particularly bad, but they really should've brought back Tsuyoshi Kawada. Looking forward to that CM though.

The fact that it's an OVA should mean that a lot of care will be put into this. Giving Kubikiri Cycle (the weakest book in my opinion) this treatment can only mean great things for the rest.

My head spins everytime Kaji Yuki is given a main role of a character that I like except for Bananya.

Great news. Have been waiting for an adaptation of this based on the receptions of the novel series.

Maybe you should add this too:

Character Design: Watanabe Akio
Music: Kajiura Yuki (though unconfirmed, but the BGM in official site indicated that.)
