The 2016 award list for the 9th edition of Manga Taisho, the annual Japanese manga award, has been announced. The award is decided by a panel of bookstore clerks who select the best title from manga series which are relatively new (have published less than 8 volumes) and have released at least one volume in the last year. The first voting round decides the nominees and the second decides the final ranking.

*2. 78 pts Dungeon Meshi [seinen, fantasy] by Ryoko Kui
*3. 68 pts Blue Giant [seinen, music] by Shinichi Ishizuka
*4. 55 pts Boku dake ga Inai Machi [seinen, supernatural] by Kei Sanbe
*5. 49 pts Hyakumanjou Labyrinth [seinen, sci-fi] by Takamichi
*6. 43 pts Nami yo Kiitekure [seinen, romance] by Hiroaki Samura
*7. 42 pts Koi wa Ameagari no You ni [seinen, romance] by Jun Mayuzuki
*8. 38 pts Machida-kun no Sekai [shoujo, school] by Yuki Andou
*9. 29 pts Tokyo Tarareba-Jou [josei, romance] by Akiko Higashimura

I love this award! Like every other year, I don't know the majority of the titles (<3). Also, love all the seinen tags and interesting premises.

I read last year's winner, Kakukaku Shikajika, and it definitely deserved it. I hope this year is equally interesting.

Considering all the past Manga Taisho winners have been very well-written imo, I have no problem with this choice.

Although, BokuMachi at #4 makes me question the reliability of these booksellers...C'mon, you can at least recognize forced feels, can't you?

Bokumachi was nominated in 2014, 2015 and 2016 didn't win it in any of those years but that alone is an accomplishment

I could've sworn that Ajin had won this award before. Which apparently it didn't. Must've been some other award...

Anyhow, looking for that information led me to picking up some of the past winners together with 2016's. Fun times ahead, fellas.

Sweet I added it to my plan to read list recently. Wasn't going to start it till it got more chapters though.

It's a really sweet manga, I'd definitely recommend it if you like romance stuff.

its a more tham good manga and more than likely and late nighth anime fuck me that is irk some
i don't think this kind of shows has wide appealing, so i though it wouldn't work in normal airing time. correct me if i am wrong thou, this manga unaccessible yet outside japan.

its just come high in the taisho awards and if it does the same in the Mangasho then its that the highest nod a manga can get

ie like ocsers with movies in theus Taishp and a Mangasho nod or to be mentiod in the same line ad them two awward makes a manga as mainstream as can be even if sales say diffrent

Wasn't going to check out the anime buuut seeing this here, I might. Well, if it gets subbed, that is.

I feel like half of the titles up there were also in the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2016 rankings since I have them on my PTR. They seem to overlap a lot. Need to find some time to start reading them. I remember seeing BokuMachi nominated for the past two years too.

I swear it felt like not too long ago when I saw the 2015 thread...time goes by fast.
