I think some Anime can pull it off but alot of anime it just makes things look worse......I understand its probably cheaper to do CG backgrounds and models then have it all drawn and animated..... what are your thoughts?

I don't mind the use of CGI in anime, but preferably when the usage is barely or not noticeable at all.

Full 3D CGI is still watchable for me, just not that enjoyable.

The future is AI generated visuals based on concept arts, script and inputs and fine tuning from the director. Something like you can already do with Midjourney just in this case the output is not images but animation. Ten or fifteen years and we won't have animators in the industry nor CGI done in the sense we think of it now.

My answer: In general I don't like the CGI that humans do (of course there are a lot of ecxeptions) but looking forward to what an AI will be capable of.

3DCG is actually more expensive to make than 2D animation said by anime industry people its just that 3DCG speeds up anime production a lot so its better for the production committee and anime studio to spend more money just to meet deadlines since missing deadlines is more expensive

3DCG is the future it will only keep improving anyway especially with AI or artificial intelligence improving too

It can be well done, but most of the times it gets bad and out of place.

full cgi movie is fine. Like FF kingsglaive. Anime with high quality CGi is also fine. (where you won't notice cgi that much with animation) . But a lot of Anime use half assed cgi in midsts of great 2d animation. That I hate.

CG backgrounds are very common even for static shots and (especially if they are static) they can blend well with the 2D animation and even allow the team to produce very nice shots.
This one is my favorite use of a CG background ever and is a good example of both not sticking out much and allowing for a very difficult sequence to be animated:

3D characters (in something that also includes 2D characters) are another story. They suck. And they suck for a few reasons like weird movement and a cheap look usually associated with cel shading.
Things that are 100% 3D should look better but TV schedules and budgets mean that most of them are sub par. Unless it's one of those rare projects like arcane which as I understand it took longer to make than your average TV series and cost a lot more.

If used in small things, because I believe they don't have the capacity to make an entire CG anime and also because if with animation without CG they manage to deliver poorly, imagine doing it completely with CG. There are exceptions but they are few.

Do u like CG In anime ??

Personal I don't mind CG in Anime mainly because almost every Anime I have ever seen in my life basically has used it to some extent or another.

CG has been commonly used in Anime since the late 90s. Even one of the 1st Anime movies produced using some CG was in the early 80s. Unless one only consumes Anime produced before the mid 90s, your not going to find many titles that are produced without it. Eventually there is going to come a time when people who even have a trained eye for spotting CG won't even be able to tell the difference if an animation is using it or not.

some people might dislike cg in itself, and thats ok. but i think cg can be well done, like in the final fantasy VII movie or in kengan ashura. in general i would say that animation with lots of action scenes can be great in cg, while other genres like drama or slice of life needs 2d because its more expressive.

It depends of execution tbh. For example for Full CGI anime, Cestvs and Ars nova are the examples of a good/decent anime of Full CGI showing that it is possible while Estab-Life and Black Rock Shooter Dawn are the example of terrible execution.

For usage of additional Cg/Cgi as backgrounds/effects hmmmm Bleach TYBW background buildings and some effects and idk some mecha/robotics parts like in Gatchaman Crowds are the good examples while the terrible one are simply stuff known for being bad as Attack on Titan final season Titans and fighting scenes, Overlord armies/more than few characters fighting or any scene including more than 5-10 characters at the same place in a fight.

I don't mind it, but if it is than at least make it in decent level.

CGI is fine and has even gotten quite good at imitating 2D animation techniques.

Now, effectively integrating CGI into the already strained production schedule of a TV anime production is a different story.

Yes, a lot of the times i have seen it used it has been a great tool to assist the animation. Jolyne's string is CGI and it looks great, it can be used really well on backgrounds and most anime backgrounds nowadays are made on a CGI base and you can barely notice, and I've also seen it work really well for objects that are supposed to be very stiff in form like the Beyblades in Beyblade. The main issue with CGI is when it is used for characters with really questionable quality models like the CGI Whitesnake and Lang Wrangler in Stone Ocean as well as pretty much everybody in Berserk 2016 and Ex-Arm where the models are so noticeably bad and off looking where they become distracting. Another big issue with CGI is when there is a mismatch in the framerate of 3D and 2D assets which even if the model looks fantastic, the framerate makes it look off because it may be moving either smoother or less smoothly than the 2D assets in the scene. I saw a video by the Corridor Crew on YouTube where they gave this critique to some of the CGI titans in the first cour of Attack on Titan season 4. CGI is a tool and can be great if used right and I have seen plenty of cases where it has been, but some shots or scenes with 3D assets can be poorly handled. I like it if it isn't too distracting basically.

I also forgot to mention I have seen some clips of the CGI in Chainsaw Man and it looks really good, amazing camera work and the model quality is superb. I know that the Chainsaw Man CGI is very controversial, but I think it looks really impressive for something done on a TV budget.

I don’t really have a preference either way. Most anime these days have some cgi and generally it’s use is pretty good and hard to distinguish. It can be pretty obvy during big action scenes but even they’re getting better so I think it’s only a matter of time till complaining about cgi stops altogether.

Depends on how well it is used as well is as good of a CGI it is. Not all CGI created equal.

It can be good, but can also be completely out of place, unnecessarily ham-fisted into the show.

As an aspiring artist who's dabbling into stylized 3D, I usually never have a problem with CGI in anime, doesn't matter if it's for a certain object or the entire scene. Though I will agree that some attempts are much better than others, like compare Land of the Lustrous with Ex-Arm lmaooo

I like CG in anime. But unless the CG is good, I don't like when it's a mostly CG anime.

Unless it's glamorously off-putting, I don't mind (and sometimes don't notice) CG in 2D anime.

In the first episode of Golden Kamuy, I actually liked the bear graphics.

I like CG that is properly used such as the 2D-3D blend in works produced by ufotable, and full (or predominantly used) 3D CG works (Houseki no Kuni, Beastars, JoJo OPs, that one episode in Star Wars: Visions produced by Kinema Citrus).

I think too many people blow it out of proportion honestly. Yeah most of it does look jank as shit since most anime studios haven't mastered having CGI incorporated into their 2D.

I actually just watched a really good overview on this and though I'm not into Idol anime specifically, I hope one day this can encapsulate the industry when and where it's needed:

It has it's place. I watch anime for 2D animation and I definitely don't want to see 3D dominate like it has in the West for such a long time. That said it is really useful for effects or some stuff that is hard to execute in 2D animation. I really like how MAPPA has used it in CSM or A1 in 86 and it can be quite subtly used in shows like Violet Evargarden. That said yeah I watch anime for 2D animation but I don't mind seeing 3D being an aid to support 2D. Even fully 3D stuff is kinda fun to see in the medium occasionally.

I think the type of CG used in movies like the Captain Harlock movie or Gantz:O looks really good, but the stiff-looking CG has never worked for me. I don't think it's a good replacement for hand-drawn 2D animation, unless it's only being used for things such as background elements that you don't really notice otherwise.
