Are the Big Three still relevant, or should we crown a Shounen King?

We have seen a lot of anime, ones ranging from old to new, big to small, and long to short. The Shounen Branch used to consist of an oligarchy named The Big Three, consisting of 3 massively successful shows, named Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece. Shounen has changed a lot recently, some good and some bad, but should we dethrone the Big Three and crown a new Shounen King? Or are the Big Three here to stay?

But is it really, i mean with very promising anime like Boku No Hero, which already has 3 seasons and a fourth season in the works, opposed to Black Clover's 50 episode 1 season, Hero Aca has 3 seasons with 63 episodes, so i think Studio Bones is doing a really good job of making a candidate for Shounen King, don't you think so?

But the Crunchyroll Anime Awards were dominated by MHA.

Also only battle shounen fans would care about bombastic titles like The Big Three or [Battle] Shounen King. This is like trying to interest an athletics sports fan in MMA.

How many years until a decent studio launches a Black Clover Brotherhood with decent animation?
Oh right its never gonna happen...

I never understood the reasoning behind the big three. Shouldnt something like DBZ or Death Note be the true kings of anime?
I swear whenever someone talks about anime those two fellas are the first and most talked about.
Which one even is the crowned shounen king anyways? One Piece hasnt ended, Naruto had some really mediocre adaptations (im looking at you 90 filler episodes in a row!) and Bleach i havent watched cant talk about it.
And honestly what would be the point of a pseudo king?
Taking into account how the internet works and people having a shit taste (Kimi no na wa rank 2 with a script that makes Hand Shakers look good?) its going to be a meaningless popularity contest that's gonna end up crowning the most popular or "hype" show of the moment like BNHA (that is really good despite having such a massively generic script just like Black Clover... god why Bones didnt picked up Black Clover ughhh).

Check out my taste and my profile.

Lol if we were to name a battle shonen king, it would either be Naruto or One Piece, so it doesn't really even matter in the end.

The big three are absolutely irrelevant in modern anime culture. Unless you have black friends, in which case, it's all you'll hear about + DBZ.

It was a topic of 'yesteryear' so to speak.
There aren't many shounen series as widely successful as those 3 that are current but there are a few that rival or surpass bleach and naruto.
One Piece however is the ultimatum if you consider how popular and financially successful it is in comparison to the other 2 let alone all anime (isn't it the most sold anime franchise or something?).
My personal favorite is Bleach.
One Piece was also my favorite at some point but became a slog to keep up with so I'll wait a while before picking up again.
I was never a big Naruto fan but it did have some of the best choreographed fight scenes in anime imo.

Similar series with more current relevance to me that I would put above those series are:
One Punch Man
HunterxHunter
possibly Radiant (if it does well)

The idea of the Big Three is as tactful as the leading figures or pop culture in another media, you could just see past through them and see other works, which could be better, perhaps the other way around, fact still remains that the tutelage serves only as an appeal for newcomers to get into, it doesn't change the fact that the quality of the series is better outside of the Big Three.

Can't we just give it to "The Future Diary" for the hell of it, assuming mal still has ti tagged shounen? Honestly, the only one of the big three that has more members on here I believe, is still only the original naruto.

idk where have you been but
it's already annouced and black clover has been continuing for a while now
its ep count is now unlimited as of rn until it either catches up or something happen that causes the manga and thus the anime to be discontinued
It's good that Slop leveling won the CR awards with such a power gap, Gaijin Weebs don't deserve good anime.

I think the idea of the big 3 shounen needs to remain firmly in our memories of attitudes about anime during the 2000s. Shounen doesn't define anime like it used to so the concept is antiquated. It's about legacy.

For those familiar with the 80's there was a zeitgeist of the big 3 mecha (Gundam, Macross/Robotech and VOTOMs). We didn't bring in Evangelion even though it is bigger.

You get after people for posting something that doesn't contribute to the discussion, yet you made the whole damn thread about something that there is NO discussion to.
*face palm*

The "Big Three" is not some ranking list where haters, or new people who've never seen them, can just replace them with whatever they want.
That term was created for those three shows, and only those three shows.

If you want to make up some new collective term for however many new shows you deem as the new big hits, go for it, but the "Big Three" will always refer to those specific shows it was created for.
You're never too old to watch anime.
If I ever stop watching anime, check my pulse I'm likely dead.

I wake up with coffee & anime, I go to sleep with coffee & anime.

IMO the spiritual successor of those 3 is black clover. MHA it's the most popular shounen anime for now, but it never was the top manga in shounen jump and it's loosing popularity.IMO it's an average show, I don't think it can be the king of anything. Black clover neither.

We should wait for a new generation of shounen because this one it's not even close to the previous one.

PS: DB is the god of shounen.

The Big Three will always be relevant to the conversation because the popularity, fandom and receptions that those series garnered are milestones and really hard to replicate (series like MHA are still growing strong but not at that level yet). They will be legends and you really shouldn't disrespect legends...

I don't mind who become new shonen king, I'm just sad most budget are going toward those mediocre / overpraised super long running shonen instead of something truly exceptional..

Each episode production fee of anime is very expensive nowadays, yet some of those meh series got like 100+ episodes whereas other genre got 12 or nothing at all..

Yes I'm just mad Karakuri Circus only got 36 episodes zzz. (After seeing episode 6 preview, I knew the serie is ruined cuz they skip way too much and probably would ruin the story)

Big 3 is an historical thing, It's just like Allies Big 4 in WW2 and Big 2 in Cold War.. It doesn't really make sense to find the new Big 2 in current world where it's clearly the political world changes.. I hope everyone at least can understand that..

Sure One Piece is still the most popular manga in the world, but it also doesn't really a king of shounen when I think that Shingeki no Kyojin can at least challenges it's popularity.. Yes, the king of shounen in the past was Dragon Ball, I don't think OP is ever as dominant as Dragon Ball (popularity in number is quite different with dominance) ...

If One Piece, Naruto and Bleach are the big 3, then Dragon Ball would be the god of shounens... The Whis to their Beerus, the Mihawk to their Zoro, the Madara to their Sasuke, the Yoruichi to their Soifon... (I think everyone gets the point lel). As for whether the big 3 will ever be replaced, I don't think so. The big 3 title was created for those 3 anime only. It wouldn't be the big 3 anymore if they were replaced. BNHA and Black Clover are massively overhyped (esp BNHA), even though Black Clover just had one of the best team fights I've seen in a looooong time. SnK is a great show but still doesn't command that level of cred as a battle shounen.

The big three is essentially a time period in my eyes.

If there's to be another period in time where 3 anime reign supreme, so be it, but unless it's unanimous among the community then it's meaningless to even talk about crowning a new one.

id say one piece is still in the big 3, naruto has been swapped with my hero academia , which has a similar soul, and bleach has been swapped with black clover as the controversial anime
