| The reason why she's so popular is because she received higher amount of screentime than other female characters. She also has been formed to be friendly towards the MC, just like many waifu materials. Audience caught up on her and thus Rem became overrated. Ram is better anyway - she (righteously) treated the MC like a bag of waste. |

| So much harsh language here, all forced out because people just gotta pick a side and stick with it stubbornly. Rem and Emilia are both pretty likable characters. I can see why people think of Emilia as like demure or whatever, but think of it another way it makes her slightly less striking as a character. As such I do like Rem better, but not really by much. Rem's a character that is devoted to the main character and has changed a lot since meeting him. Her story and everything eventually moves to revolve around Subaru. Yet no matter how no. 1 Subaru is to her, she'll always be no. 2 to him, but that'll never change her mind, which could be a quality some people would rate highly as "waifu" or whatever. Personally I find that a little beautiful None of it matters anyway. We're arguing for a difference between a 7.0/10 or 7.2/10 best girl material anyways. We got more important stuff to do like make people realise Tsukiko is 10/10 adorable. |

| Tsundere is "I didn't do it for you, you know!" or "Don't misunderstand, okay? I am doing it for XYZ." when they actually mean the opposite. Rem is not a Tsundere character. That's all I have to say. Is she the best character ever? Never. Is she is the best waifu material ever? Never. Truth be told, Rem is a really likable character if we ignore how she jumped the gun based on Subaru's smell alone given what she and Ram had been put through by the Witch in the past, but she isn't as interesting or mysterious as Emilia. Unfortunately, the story in the anime focused too much on Rem which is why she became more popular. I don't read the novel so I dunno where it is but that's my opinion. Also, usually when an apparent supporting character takes first position in polls from a story, it normally says the story has issues with prioritizing characters and not a well thought out writing. She is not only popular in Re:Zero, apparently Japan thinks she is one of the best female characters ever produced in recent times. If Re:Zero cannot convince majority of the fans that Emilia is the better character, than the author needs to change their approach. |

| For me, its a case of comparison. I didn't think Rem was all that great, but when every other character in the series (aside Ram, but she got way less screen time) is underdeveloped and pretty generic, she stands out a lot. I wasn't that into the show, but those who like it, will be really into her as a character. |

| She's an ok character. I mean it's pretty easy to see why she's popular given shes the type of girl any guy wants but for me I could care less about her being the perfect girl. Wish she got more characterization in the anime but given it follows the novels I can only hope that later on her character grows from "perfect girl/love's MC" to something else. |

Other than the first 3 eps, we don't see her that much. She could have been a much better character if she just had more screen time. |
