Heh, that furball turned into a giant youkai.

Nobou is such a peculiar supernatural character imo. The way it expresses regret (a human-like behavior) is quite noticeable about his unable to save his friend. At least tried though, right? The cold truth coming from Abeno might of added more to the fire. The feels of this episode D:

Although I understand it might be hard to fit in 20 minutes, the story with this youkai felt a lot more emotional in the manga...

Very emotional episode! Would even go as far as saying that Nobou's story would've deserved a second episode.

Right? Depressing.

I was thinking how disturbing and sad it was that he felt all that for an inanimate object but then again maybe we should see it less as him leaving behind a friend and more as him leaving behind/abandoning something he supposedly cared about because of fear and self-preservation-- something we're all guilty of at times.

didnt expect this show to have some feels on it, that Nobou story hits so hard on real life, blaming yourself for the death of someone that you cared about, because you wasnt capable of doing anything more than leaving

Zenko: "I can see Yahiko clearly, but I can't see fuzzy very well."

you could say he appears fuzzy to her.

I'll see myself out the door now.

Some of my favorite parts of this show are the little bits where more details about yokai and the underworld get revealed to Zenko. I mean Abeno is well versed in the subject and Ashiya sort of just jumped right into that stuff like a fish into water, but Zenko isn't naturally talented nor is she as carefree as Ashiya. I love to see he reactions to new things like the underworld portal this time.

I agree, although I still cried watching the anime >< It seems like the emotional impact of Nobou's story wasn't lost among the anime-only viewers though, which is great.

I liked the theme about friendship and regret. Even if that friend was just a scarecrow, I could still feel how important the scarecrow was to Nobou. The part where Nobou told his friend that it's the first time he's been happy with his choice because it led him to meet Ashiya and Abeno was emotional ;_; A good moral. Face your regrets but don't yourself to keep wallowing in them, instead face forward and you may encounter better things.

OMG Zenko's obsessive father lol even for a monk, he's just like any other dad.

Nobuo's story was sad and all but whenever shit started curdling from his eye, I lost it.

I think this was one of the best episodes from this show. I'm surprised to see the average ratings. It was beautiful. A bit clumsy with how the scarecrow wasn't even a real person. but I think that was a good thing on its own. Stories about moving on are always nice.

Yeah.

It reminded me of Natsumes Book of Friends. That one has similar bitter-sweet yokai stories.

Dang, that was a pretty sad episode ... poor Nobou and his scarecrow friend :( What Abeno said about him being the one holding himself back really resonated about how he just feels bad about leaving his friend behind during the fire. I'm glad that he managed to properly apologize and say goodbye to his friend before heading to the underworld. Seeing Fuzzy and Yahiko get super big was pretty funny :P Fuzzy sure looks like he'd be soft and comfy to lean against XD Hope Zenko will appear more often lol, and we got to see a little more of her family and the farm too~
