My currently watching list has 71 anime. But I'm actively watching about 17 less than that.

It's only acceptable if they're still airing. Watching many completed shows at the same time ruins the experience.

It's nice to watch multiple ones to have a lot of flavors of anime and to keep things fresh. Though, I'd say there's no point in making restrictions with these types of things. Just do whatever works.

I watch whatever I pick up every season, which usually consists of more than half the shows (my backlog is crying).
When I've caught up with all recent episodes I work on an anime in my backlog.

I think you should watch an anime one by one unless they all are currently airing. I dunno but i don't like watching more than 3 anime at the same time. Makes me forget what happen on a certain episode of an anime when I'm watching another one.

Exactly this ^
And if there's an anime I want to watch but is still airing I wait until is finished.

This is something I will never understand.

In regards to the op, as far as I am concerned its better to focus on one anime at a time, or at most two.

Never used to, but I slowly started to and it's actually fun to switch back and forth. Now I'm watching 5 (2 old shows and 3 currently airing). Got a lot of things I want to check out this season so I bet that number will go up substantially.

I've found myself hitting a limit around 23-24 shows, beyond which things start to become hazy, or I just don't get the time to keep watching them.

On the other hand I need to have more than 10 or so going at any one time, and if I have less than about 15 I'll spend a lot of time searching around for more things to watch.

Agreed but it depends on the type of anime. If you're watching more the episodic kind then it doesn't really matter how many you watch at once. But if it's one of those with intense/immersing plot then watching more than one can sometimes ruin the experience for me.

About half of the Currently airing list.

Also about 20 others that are completed, 2 -3 are rewatching.

I have many several options depending on the mood i'm in is what i'm going to watch.
Unless there is an anime that I can't stop watching and will finish that one right away.

Also I get tired of some but don't want them on hold they sit still there for a while. And when I'm in the mood to continue, I will.

Currently watching 10 shows (rewatching 2.) I tend to watch the one(s) I'm hooked on the most and put the ones I'm least hooked on on hold until I finish something.

I don't let my Watching list exceed 10 entries, so that it'll be easier to follow whatever I'm currently watching and have a lot of shows to look forward to.

You can watch multiple anime at once if you have a really good memory and don't have to wait a week between episodes.

It depends. Normally, if the anime is completed, I focus on that one until I either complete it or drop it. As for ongoing, if I'm caught up, I watch them all unless I have them on hold.

For instance, right now, I've been watching D. Gray-man and nothing else. I'll continue my ongoing anime after I complete D. Gray-man, unless I decide to pick up another ended anime. I do the same with manga.

I always have a few for whatever mood I'm in. If I want to watch horror, I watch whatever I'm watching in horror. If I want comedy, watch whatever I'm watching there. I don't have as much time as I used to, so regardless of how many I'm watching, there's still a few days between episodes so I don't mind watching four or five at a time.

Yeah I usually watch two shows at the time, one on the computer screen and one on the TV.

Jokes aside, I don't watch more than two or three shows at the time, unless we count breaks. Sometimes I don't feel like watching a certain show, and want to keep it for a later time, so I watch something else. When I finish that, I might return to watch what I started, or start something new. So many shows out there, so little time.

A bit off-topic but I used to watch 2-3 shows at once (switching between commercials) and sometimes I watch a show on tv and while it's on commercial I watch another on the computer... Did anyone else ever do this??

I have like 100 that i still need to finish. I never kept track and I would watch anything that interested me. I kept finding things I wanted to watch and kept watching new one haha. Bad idea. But I don't really mind. I don't watch all 100 at the same time. I'm trying to finish them all. So I pick a few that I like best or almost done with ad try to finish them. I still keep watching more new ones Q^Q I can't help it.
My goal is to only have around 20 that I need to finish.

Along with the ones that are coming out weekly, I usually watch two shows- one long couple hundred episode show, and one twelve or something episode show. So that whenever I get bored by the long one, I can marathon the shorter one. Though I tend to randomly start anime that look interesting and getting that convenient pattern messed up.

I have fallen victim to the "watching several anime at once" bug. Most of which is now in my 'on-hold' list. As a 13 - 14 year old I started one series and just hopped onto another over and over until I had started around 20 different series. At the moment I'm actively watching about 10 of the 30+ in my watching list.

I'm 16 now, so nothing much has changed since then. Still series hopping like a mad-man.

My advice is, don't do it until you finish the series you're on unless you plan to actively watch them. Weekly anime is a good place to start since you only get one episode a week depending on the series. You'll have enough time to watch a few full series before a new episode comes out depending on the length.
