i play everything via kodi now on my nexus player. looks identical to when i used mpc-hc with madVR, heck i get smoother pans and stuff.

kodi used to be called xbmc. no idea why they chose kodi. cos it sounds like codec? who knows.

A combination of Wondershare Player and VLC

Ive had issues VLC freezes up too easy if left open. Wondershare player has shown a better ability to play videos with small bits of data missing and does a better job displaying HD without too much CPU for me. VLC i use if the subtitles do not show up properly.

What do you mean? I never had problems with MPC myself.
Tried VLC for a bit and it was ok but for some reason some of videos played pretty bad whereas MPC was doing just like usual so I went back to MPC.

VLC must have improved since I last used it...5 or 6 years ago (probably even longer, actually...). I remember switching to MPC and it being the technically superior player.

I've switched from KMPlayer to VLC to Potplayer to MPC and to WMP.

KMPlayer is a bit too extensive for me, and sometimes the settings can override the CPU. VLC is shit in every sense of the word though, because none of the features even do anything. MPC was a snore fest. WMP I just use to listen to music.

So yeah, to answer your question, I use Potplayer. It annoys me, but let's just say its the least annoying out of the group.

I've used CCCP's MPC in the past and KCP's for a short period of time.

Now I want to keep it clean and simple, I use MPV :)

Well, I'm on Linux, and VLC doesn't use much RAM at all on it. I'm running an old dual-core PC with 3GB RAM, and only a 256MB on-board Intel chipset video card, and it works fine. VLC will even play a 60FPS 1080p video full screen with no lag whatsoever.

Not a lot of people know about this one but;

Zoom Player

It's an amazing media player designed for HD files.
It's designed to play .MKV files which are used for the most part.

Well, I'm not sure if its a hardware problem or something else, but it didn't work in the slightest for me.

It either straight up crashed on start up or when I try to play something on it or virtually nothing at all except hog memory and burn up the CPU

According to that, you have 6GB RAM, which is more than enough. Although, you're running Windows 10, which is a technical preview, so maybe it has bugs which prevents it from running VLC properly.

Newer 64-bit Windows uses over 1GB RAM sometimes, but Linux Mint(What I'm currently using,) only uses 200MB RAM when running, leaving plenty of free memory.
