Another good episode. I've gotten over the whole weird look... the stories are great... and I love how the Medicine Seller even cast doubt upon himself at the end of this episode.

But... I'm just saying... I'm getting some weird vibes from that old monk... O_o

i can't understand who did that trick with the compass and what reason did he have to do such a thing
that couldn't be Kusuriuri
well, it's useless questions
i only wonder if the rest episodes are as obscure as the first three?

Haha. God, I'm almost certain of that, but I hope I'm wrong x__X Further confirmed by

Also, the ship's design = EYEGASM. This is so beautiful.
Andand, I love the 'doors' behind the episode's title at the beginning of each episode. I'm gonna look for them in wallpaper form or something xD

Great episode, and radically different from the first arc imo. Not only is this arc's setting different, but the overall pacing is much faster as well.

I'm not really surprised that Kayo also appeared in this series after watching Ayakashi. I wonder if the other samurai who survived the bakeneko incident show up too... just thinking out loud but not counting on it though.

Not quite as sure if I like this arc as much as the first so far, it doesn't feel quite as suspenseful imo. It almost seems as though The Medicine Seller cast doubt on himself on purpose at the end there.

getting more into this story than the last, good stuff

from the first moment you see them, the monk and his partner seem to have something going on. But then I was also getting vibes from the samurai, he's very effeminate though I sort of wondered if he had leprosy the way he was behaving... I guess he's just shy

Great start to the new arc. The visuals continue to be impressive; and I noticed a lot of familiar voices among the passengers on the boat - having some very good seiyuu voice side characters just makes this show even better.

However, as a side note, I am still not quite clear on the difference between "ayakashi" and "mononoke" since both terms are being used to describe supernatural/abnormal entities.

what i got from the description of the medicine seller was that ayakashi are more similar to deities and folklore, and even if they should not exist there are many around, making it impossible to wipe them all, while mononoke are not deities nor folklore, they should be more similar to the manifestation of human uneasiness

for me it was the bard-exorcist to change the direction of the ship, with all that continuing to describe the sea and the ayakashi bound to it, he was like evoking it and strenghening its presence, while the others were more busy being shocked

It's very artistic, delicate and with attention to details. Overall very unique anime. But I find it a little bit claustrophobic. I feel like I've been trapped in an old japanese painting. Maybe I will have to finish it to decide if that's a good or a bad thing :)

From the notes of the subs team im watching it says: Ayakashi are another variety of spirit, considered more malicious than Mononoke.

What's the importance of a Monk in the sea?

This episode left me with a lot of doubts that i hope the next one can clear: Why did Kusuriuri appeared on the ceiling twice? Are the man/fish and the bird ayakashi, or what are they?

It's the other way around: Ayakashi are simply supernatural beings, spirits etc. They can be evil, good or neutral-natured. The term Mononoke however inherits a more sinister connotation and thus they are the ones being considered more malicious. Genyousai confirms that Ayakashi aren't necessarily evil in this episode when he informs the others about the Ayakashi called "Kokuudaiko" which creates the drum beats but won't harm anyone.

Hearing Namikawa Daisuke in here was a pleasant surprise.

It's great to see Kayo! The fish with a leg was disturbing.

Kusuriuri is perfect. The way he talks and acts in the end ahh. How disturbed the compass though?

Mmmh... pretty boring this arc, so far. For now I only liked the first episode.
I'm getting the impression this anime tries to cover up random, not very well done short stories, with very beautiful visuals. But maybe I'm wrong. Also, as someone already pointed out, a bit claustrophobic, but this is maybe the point.

A bit disappointed for now, anyway.

Visuals: 10/10
Story: 3/10
Characters: 1/10 <- The med seller is cringeworthy, trying to be so mysterious and sh-t all the time.

I don't like Kayo very much, she's boring. A character type that seems to be in so many anime.

Those monks look really fabulous and is up to late night hijinks lol
It was nice to see Kayo again after a while~ She's as energetic as ever. The silent pauses in the scenes before answering felt a bit awkward but it's not much of a problem.

So an Ayakashi is like a yokai which is found everywhere while a Mononoke is an Ayakashi possess by a strong emotion that bounds them to the earth. Blowing away the mass of shells with a gunpowder balloon~

A great part of this episode was very hard to follow, due to the intense visual abstraction and of course, the paralleled incohesive events. Still pretty interesting towards the end though.

The colors and design of the ship and its interior is pure eyegasm. I kind of wished they had a real ship like that and that I could go on a cruise for several days or even a few weeks.

Kayo is adorable. Like how she's tanned for a change.

This story seems to be a lot more straightforward compared to the incredibly complex story in the previous two episodes. Kusuri-uri you acting real sus(amongus) according to the other passengers atleast.
