This was very nice. How sad that Natsume was just too busy trying to run from youkais so he never had a chance to fit in.

A good ninety percent of the episode was made of flashbacks, yet it was so wonderfully executed that I lost track of time and didn’t want it to end. The double perspective was a neat added trait to the storytelling.

This is the first episode in four seasons we’ve seen someone else’s —well, I correct, someone-that-is-not-a-youkai’s— point of view on their relationship with a younger Natsume. Yuriko is a really nice girl. I’m glad she is there to prove that not everything in Natsume’s past is sad and lonely; that he met a person like her, whom he could get along with despite the things he had to keep inside; and most importantly, that she cared deeply about him – Natsume himself held those memories of her as well. I love that.

Aw, that Natori poster. I want to see him again soon, please.
The small youkai was like a little doll, cute~
Natsume’s messy hair~ I’d offer to cut it for him any day.

I hope Yuriko and Natsume get to meet each other again at some point ♥

Next episode seems to have many hilarity moments. Next week, come fast~
I think, then procrastinate.
Therefore, I am.

Loved the dual perspective bit, and the twist that they actually didn't meet in the end was a quite a bit of a surprise, but a good idea nonetheless as it showed the idea of the whole life goes on thing with the series. Still, I want them to meet again eventually. Maybe at some point, Natori would ask Natsume to work with him again on another job where they'd need to travel to Ogata's town. Maybe have Tanuma and Taki tag along. That would be fun. XD

Looking forward to the next episode with another Yokaii taking over Natsume.

Another strong episode. I find the dual perspective narration done well.

And to think it's from a girl that could be Natsume's love interest. I demand more romance! XD

Another flashback episode, and a good one at that. Ogata, one of the only people who took the initiative in trying to understand Natsume, was a breath of fresh air. I like her a lot right away, and even more after seeing the kind of character she was. I was expecting Natsume to take the "clingbug" back to the other town, where he and Ogata would see each other again. I was really hoping they'd meet, like the other flashback episode with the Youkai girl in the tree, and I was left with a kind of sad and empty feeling when they didn't.
Still, her hearing about him, and that he was happy, and Natsume wishing that the people in that town would hear he was happy at the same time was an unexpected and beautiful ending.

Yes. I love that she stood up for Natsume and that he smiled. <3

And I liked his hair, even though it was a bit messy.
I loved how she was observant and smart.

I love Natsume's flashbacks. <3

I love his smile. <3

This, and I'm a straight male. I can't have enough of the soothing atmosphere of this anime, and how he can smile faintly yet heartily after all that's happened in his life so far. And they would make a perfect couple, though I doubt there'll be actual romance in this anime.

I swear with every episode I grow to love Natsume more, and more!

Where he goes, he's blamed for most bad things happening around him, called a liar too. I am really grateful when someone decides to understand him better, whether human or youkai. Natsume doesn't ever complain either, and yet makes the very most of the friends he has and treasures them.. Natsume is truly a wonderful person, isn't he?

I thought it was really sweet that he decided to go back to check on the little "clingbug" youkai, and protected it too.

Ogata is so sweet, I was glad when she stuck up for Natsume. It's unfortunate that they couldn't have developed more of a friendship, the goodbye was pretty sad :(

I really liked the concept of dual perspective. It really emphasizes on the fact that normal people can't see what Natsume is seeing. I cried inside when he was being ignored by the same students who greeted him so nicely. He really had it rough before he was taken in by the Fujiwara's.

Ogata seems like a nice girl (potential love interest for Natsume-kun). I kinda have a thing for girls wearing red-rimmed glasses. I'm still a Taki fan though... xD

That's a pretty girl.. :D
Seeing Natsume fighting a youkai from a normal human's view will makes you think that he's really weird, that's why there were fewer people around him who understands him or no people at all.. He had a very hard life, so it's good to see that there are also other people who cares for him..

Why is this show so... sad?

It's a nice story, but at the same time it's not that nice...

I like this Ogata girl tbh. Even though she's probably not going to appear again in the series, she is someone who understands Natsume as a kind and gentle person kind of like herself.

Anyways, nice episode. 5/5.

I'm glad there was someone else who understood Natsume from his past. We usually only see other boys bullying him and people talking behind his back, but Ogata was different. I cried and felt the frustration Ogata had when she tried to stick up for Natsume with the window incident, and how Natsume just smiled and thanked her ;__; At least having her around made his stay at that town a better experience. They probably would still be good friends if they had kept in touch ^^ And that suneko (clingbug?) was adorable! I love how it just kept rolling around on the ground in the beginning.

Wow what a great episode, the backstory and especially the new character Ogata was really interesting and the ending just made it even more pleasant, I do wonder if they would ever meet up. Either way let's see what's next!

This episode is yet another insightful view into how much trouble the youkai have caused Natsume throughout his life. As hard as these moments must have been for him, it helps illuminate the kindness he's received even more. I think what he says at the end really drives it home, that he hopes the youkai he's met in the past will know how he's finally happy.

ahh as interesting it is to know about natsume's past more it is always sad, even if it ends on a nice note.

i love how the youkai had a tennis ball between their teeth. :D

The best moments of the series come from flashbacks, and this episode definitely delivered. Like others mentioned I really liked the two perspectives and Ogata. Totally made me smile at the end knowing that not everything from Natsume's past was sadness and I was reminded yet again that he's happy now.
The statement below is true.

Episode so romantic and a little sad, because I wanted the character of Yuriko, met again Natsume and consequently, bind even closer to him, oh my God! >_<
Pleasant this further brackets on the past of Natsume, I hope that in the fourth season you might have a chance to talk again of Yuriko Ogata. :D

Yuriko took quite a special liking to Natsume, describing him as both cool, quiet, and weird. Which are characteristics that reveal the type of guys that she likes. There were quiet a number of occasions in this episode, like with the Black Scythe Youkai and the Clinging Youkai that put Natsume in very uncomfortable positions around the school, but even so Yuriko still wanted to get to know Natsume more. (Despite that startling kick she received from him at the Shrine lol). Also, Yuriko is really cute! ;)

OH MY GOD I LOVED THIS EPISODE SO MUCH! THIS AND THE THE TREE YOKAI EPISODE IN SEASON 3 ARE MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITES. I TEARED UP FOR BOTH OF THESE EPISODES BECAUSE THEY'RE JUST SO BEAUTIFUL AND HEARTWARMING. I just wish Natsume could've met with Yuriko again because she seemed to really want to understand and help him and WASN'T a yokai. Usually Natsume is the one who helps humans and yokai first, but Yuriko actually REACHED OUT TO HIM FIRST. Sigh...they would've been the perfect OTP.

A very touching episode. Because of the nature of Japanese society Natsume will probably never try to reconnect with Ogata, which always come off as bittersweet to me, but probably don't bother people nearly as much if they view everything as transient.
