Cost of living in the UK is really high, although it still differs depending on whether you stay in London or outside London. In London, a single room's rent costs 180 pounds a week on average, and it is half (90 pounds a week) outside of London. Food prices do not vary much in and out of London, and you can be expecting 3 pounds for fast food or 8-10 pounds for a 'proper' meal. You will save a lot if you can cook though! So it requires quite a bit of money if you want to go to London and study, although the experience is fantastic!

So I just finished Nana and it was a really good watch, right up until the ending which I felt was up to the viewer's interpretation (and I don't really fancy inconclusive endings!). I know that the anime is only halfway through the manga, but the manga is left uncompleted due to the author's illness so I don't think I will be catching up with it unless the author announces a comeback. Lots of emotions in the show, and I like how the characters are flawed which makes them much more realistic.

I have never watched Gintama, but it seems more slice-of-life comedy than an actual story based on what I heard of it. As for Shinsekai Yori, I actually dropped it on episode 1 on my first go but after seeing reviews, I gave it a second chance and was actually absorbed into the story from the very beginning on my second go. It might be worth another shot, but I don't really recommend Shinsekai Yori to other people despite it being my personal favourite because I think it is pretty difficult to enjoy it if you don't get into their 'world'!

I mainly chose the UK because firstly the law degree there is recognised in Malaysia as we technically use the same legal system! Also secondly, the universities for law there are ranked higher than the other Commonwealth country counterparts notably Australia (getting a law degree in the US is not recognised back in Malaysia).

I'm actually really enjoying the drama in Nana at the moment :D It's the pregnancy part, I was rooting for Nobu but =( Yeah, I heard the author went on hiatus due to her illness and there have been no new chapters for 6 years but that was after like episode 10+ where I already got invested into the series! I still think it's really worth watching though!

However I don't think I can really sit through another round of drama as much as Nana so soon after this one, haha. Although I do not watch much shoujo, I enjoyed the stories that are pretty well done, e.g. Fushigi Yuugi, Itazura na Kiss, Akatsuki no Yona and Nana. I just hate the shoujo cliches that you see ever so often in manga (girl who is average/not very intelligent falls in love with a guy who bullies her, while the nice guy does everything possible but still loses out in the end) I would really not mind more shoujo recommendations although I will definitely take a break from watching more heavy shoujo drama after Nana.

Yup, my family went over to the UK for the trip haha, we spent about 2 weeks there. Was a good experience!

No problem regarding late replies, I totally understand! About Monster's ending, I was actually quite disappointed because the build-up and tension throughout the whole series was done so well and it was so engrossing, and at the end it was really anticlimatic that someone else was the one who shot Johan and... Dr. Tenma chose to save his life again after being so determined to kill him, it didn't really make a whole lot of sense to me. Besides, the part at the hospital complicated/made things even more unsatisfying, I don't think I wanted to follow a manga for so long just to see an ambiguous ending where we don't even know whether Johan is going back to his evil ways or whether his 'good side' has taken over... Not really sure what message the author was trying to convey right here. What were your own personal thoughts on it?

Also, started watching Nana! Seems pretty interesting, although I find one of the Nanas a little... too 'stupid'? (Is that the right word? Haha) Saw that you rated it quite highly as well so I'm looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds :D

Yup, there're Chinese songs as well although other songs are few, the community are mostly anime fans so we get all the stuff from Japan LOL, probably the reason why it's not very popular too.

Thanks, my birthday was good - it was actually during my UK trip so it was a day well spent with my family. :)

I actually went ahead and finished the Monster manga in 3 days. The build-up was really good to me, but I won't say anything more until you finished it ;) Would like to talk about the ending once you're done!

Yeah, downloading songs through Osu! takes up a lot of space but I can delete the whole folder if I don't want to play it in Osu and just steal the mp3 file from the folder :p so no real difference.

Regarding Japanese, it really sounds fun to do that, and well you only live your life once, so if you ever see the perfect opportunity to do that I would say give it a go! I chatted with someone from Singapore who's studying his Masters despite being nearly 30, and he said that he decided to take a break and do Masters after working for 6 years after initially getting his degree just to break how monotonous it is to work. Says studying is much better. So, I really think its a good idea to take a break from work at some point and pursue something as long as you feel it is not a waste and there are no negative consequences!

Also, regarding Shinsekai Yori, I would say it really depends on the person, I know people who I've recommended to who absolutely love it and I know people who found it insanely boring, it is somewhat polarizing. I initially dropped it on the first episode on my first go, but after seeing many good reviews I gave it another go and stuck with it for awhile and it slowly drew me in and transformed into my favourite anime, which was a really pleasant surprise. However, the pacing is extremely slow throughout and if the world doesn't draw you in or doesn't interest you after the 4th episode I think it is droppable (The ones who liked it mainly got hooked around there).

I'll be going on my trip around the UK tomorrow before flying back to Malaysia on the 21st, so I won't be around for a while!

There is an anime movie actually (http://myanimelist.net/anime/2952/Final_Fantasy_VII:_Advent_Children_Complete) - amazing graphics, real eye candy. You don't even have to play the game to understand what is going on except for some character relationships so it might be worth a watch if you're bored and want to see some good graphics, haha.

On osu! I usually play the standard version (The one where you move your mouse and click/tap circles), tried the other versions but couldn't get into them, haha. I actually use that to get full version of some songs and just copy the MP3 out of the folder after I downloaded the 'maps', LOL.

Also yes, I have visited Singapore once quite a few years back, can't remember much but I did go to the Universal Studios and the Night Safari. Kinda felt similar to Malaysia except the racial composition of the people in Singapore are predominantly Chinese instead. I really want to try to get a job in Singapore as Malaysia's currency is getting weaker by the day. Can see why your friends go up to Johor, imagine stuff being the same price but in MYR instead, you're paying like 1/3 of the price you normally pay for similar stuff, haha! That's part of the reason why I want to go to Singapore to work. Might be an ordinary person in Singapore but when I go back to Malaysia I automatically become 'richer' due to the exchange rate.

How's life been treating you nowadays? I see you have started Monster. My friend strongly recommended it to me but I kind of put it off for a while because of the length. How is it?
ClawViper Jun 26, 2015 12:54 PM
Oh, its a role-playing game - something like Pokemon, where you control a character and you can level up the members of your party (instead of Pokemon). There is a story behind it, and you basically you progress through the story by clearing dungeons and defeating bosses in the midst levelling up your party! Yeah, I do play osu! quite a lot, enjoy the variety of music there is there ;)

Yeah, it all depends on the job too - imagine being in a job that requires constant attention such as being a waiter or something, definitely much more tiring and monotonous than those where you can actually just stand/sit in the shop until a customer comes :D Singapore is probably a good place to work, I think I might actually want to find a job in Singapore as Malaysia's currency is getting smaller and smaller (1 SGD to 2.4 MYR last year, now its 2.8!)
ClawViper Jun 19, 2015 4:43 AM
Yup, Final Fantasy. Used to really like playing those Japanese Role-Playing games with story, haha. Not sure about Final Fantasy games for the 3DS, been a long time since I touched anything other than my laptop for anything related to gaming.

Also walao, work started so fast? Its like 2 year course or something then straight work d. Man, sounds tough - Can't imagine how it is like knowing that there are no real holidays any more and doing pretty much similar stuff the whole day. Going to be my turn after 2 more years, makes me really want to enjoy the remainder of my studying life. How do you find working life so far - is it as monotonous as I thought?

And oh yeah, we must have exchanged Facebook contacts and I probably added you waaaay back during CR times or something :p Those days were good man. But it's really hard to get into any online anime community now for me. Mainly just lurk around and read comments occasionally but won't bother getting involved like last time anymore, haha.

Hi no problem!

Life's been good as I'm done with my exams for first year, enjoying living and travelling in the UK before I return to Malaysia next month to spend the rest of my summer. FF7 remake news also got me pretty excited although it is highly unlikely that I will bother getting a PS4 just to play it.

How about you? Is it the holidays over there for you as well?
ClawViper Jan 14, 2015 9:38 AM
Haha, I still actually haven't visited anywhere out of London yet, but living in London is really nice! The place where I stay has everything you would want around you, and its really convenient since its located 10 minutes from Chinatown as well, so you can buy all sorts of sauces, powder, food to cook! It certainly is a different experience compared to staying at home. Hostel experience should be the same in all countries though.

That's an interesting career choice to have, and pretty unique as well ;) All the best with your course! What made you decide to take that diploma opposed to lets say something common like business studies, marketing, sales and so on?

Oh, and regarding Oyasumi Punpun I actually read the start really slowly as well... it starts to get really good after he has grown up, or more like the 'end of his innocence'. Before that, it is all just development of the characters around him, himself and his relatives.
ClawViper Jan 11, 2015 1:59 AM
Whew, finally back in the UK, holidays ended in a flash and I didn't do any revision!

I'm actually studying law now, it's really tough :( Lots and lots of memorising and reading to do and if you want to excel, you even have to do further reading besides just the background reading which I haven't even completed! Have to really buck up this semester - hope I will be able to juggle between my anime/manga hobby as well as social life and studies. I think I pretty much have to cut out gaming altogether starting this semester if I want to have any chance of doing well. Procrastination is evil!

What field are you studying yourself? I'm not too sure about the differences between polytechnic and junior colleges, but my friend who is the same age who went to Singapore to study just graduated from junior college after his 2 year A-Level program and is starting university later this year.

Hope you are enjoying Oyasumi Punpun :) I haven't read any manga that isn't ongoing lately besides Tokyo Ghoul, which I managed to almost finish on the plane. Gonna get around to finishing it within these few days!

ClawViper Dec 29, 2014 5:04 AM
You can sit for A-Levels in Malaysia as well, just at private colleges ;) I did A-Levels!

I'm now studying at London School of Economics/LSE. Yup, I really like the weather here now, it's not very hot nowadays but it rains so much that the whole east coast of Malaysia is flooded. Thankfully I live in the West Coast but the floods are really serious there, I really feel for the people living there. In London it was so cold that you don't even want to go out at all except for classes in the one week before I left!

Yes, I think having a community was also one of the main reasons why I liked Bleach as much as I did back then... good times indeed. I think it's actually quite difficult to get involved in a anime community's discussion nowadays since we're older now. It's like we care much less about the anime we like, even the ships we are on we aren't really passionate about them any more =p I guess that's what is means to grow up!

Do you read any other manga besides those in your manga list? I see Oyasumi Punpun is the plan to read - that's a really good read. Not something that you will feel good or pleasant reading it but once you reach a certain point it's something that really hooked me. Anything interesting you come across? I've downloaded Tokyo Ghoul to read on the plane ride back there lol, might need more :p
