2/20 were from my first 6 months and 8/20 from my first year, although something like 35% of my watch time is from the first year so it makes sense. I am thinking of replacing a couple of them though.

Watched Hunter x Hunter, Yu Yu Hakusho and Lucky Star pretty early on in my anime journey so I have a lot of bias towards those shows.

NGE was one of the first Anime I watched and I'll admit that a lot of my affection towards it is largely sentimental. That's pretty much it tho and I think there's usually at least one thing per season worthy of a 9 IMO.

Out of the favourites which existed at the time I became a fan, most of them I watched pretty early, since I did a good job of finding things which would appeal to me from reviews. And in particular Lain, which I think was the first full series I completed, is still my absolute favourite today. I did a really good job pinpointing that one.

It's been almost 10 years since I've started watching anime, and surprisingly 2. One Piece and Welcome To The NHK, both of which are still my number 1 favorite and number two favorite of all time

Well I do rank rather high anime that I watched early on, but far not always.

Well Naruto got me into anime, I rank it 7, so is the first anime I ever watched UFO Robo Grendizer.

I do not think I am biased towards early or late anime. Just my tastes alone.

I mean kinda 40% of the anime on my favorites are the ones I saw at the beginning, but I also happened to get into anime right as a lot of bangers were airing.

My biggest regret: Reading all 200+ chapters of Kanojo, Okarishimasu

If we qualify the first full year of getting into anime as valid, then 10/20 are as favorites.

At that point though, I've completed 100 entries (mostly TV)

2/6 if we only include anime favourites (kemono friends and yuru camp)
4/10 if we include manga (kemono friend, houseki no kuni, yuru camp and hakumei to mikochi)

My first anime was Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works, and the second season is in my favorites. I just have a huge soft spot where it's concerned, and a lot of nostalgia for it, so I have a feeling I'll always be able to find a spot for it there, somehow.

I'd maybe also count Non Non Biyori? The first season is in my favorites, and it was the first iyashikei I ever saw, so it really left an impression on me.

A simple 2/10, if I count both of them.

We can always go somewhere again.

eva is the only one. I've been trying to dethrone it for a decade but I can't find anything better in regards of what makes it so special to me.
(designs, music, art, seriousness/drama, rich in background info, god tier animation, gore)
99,9% of anime isn't even trying and the era of eva clones is over.

I'm not really sure what was my first anime ever. I saw episodes of Dragon Ball, Grand Prix and Top Striker! on TV, but i never got hooked by them. Much later I watched Elfen Lied and Kanon (2006) and that was the time when I really got into anime. Those two are to this day in my favourites. So yeah, there is some, but I always have a hard time drawing a line where my favourites starting and what is just barely below that. So I can't provide exact numbers.

I have 9 anime in favs, of those, Naruto and Dragon Ball Z are stuff I watched as a kid, and I'd also add Digimon Saver since I was relatively young when I watched it, so that's 1/3 of the list being childhood anime.

Very few, actually. The only ones are Hunter x Hunter and One Piece. Hxh was of the first anime I got really into and One Piece was a show I watched here and there when I was in elementary school (but I could never really follow the story back then, so I don't have much nostalgia for it).

Madoka Magica and Made in Abyss are respectively my 4th and 6th completed anime, but I don't think them still being there is due to bias, they're just truly great and totally fitting what I am looking for in a show. I'd probably still put them in my favourites if I discovered them today.

The show that got me into anime was Death Note, still think it's amazing even tho being one of the first anime that I've seen it might just be a guilty pleacure at this point. The best thing I've seen in this media is The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya and the ratio is just 1 so... ye not that much of a difference

New fans overrating their first anime is a persistent problem. There is no way this is happening with Chainsaw man... no chance at all of course.
After watching it for about 10 years you'll start to realize your first ever anime was not as genius as it seemed at the time.
It gets worse if you try to rewatch it... "omg, I was blown away by THIS??"
I started out watching 80s cartoons and then Sailor Moon, then DBZ, were my early anime days. I find one of them unwatchable today, and the other kind of hilarious and fun but not at all 'great'

Sailor Moon still holds up to this day with no problem. The modern one is better imo, because it doesn't have all these needless fillers, but the old Sailoe Moon is still really good.
It has some good storylines, especially revolving around Hotaru and the outer senshis, it was absolutely iconic for getting more girls into anime and it's very queer for a 90s anime.

You just can't compare kids anime to others you have seen later that are maybe targeted to an older audience, and while they are ofc not flawless, lot of them were really good, lot of these in their own way.

By early stuff, i mean the anime that got you into anime when you first started watching.  (You don't have to count your very first if it didn't really contribute to you being a fan.  Like if you watched something like Pokemon as a kid but didn't get into anime until years later.)

Is your favorites list full of "Early Bias"?

None of them is really one of my favorites really (and I'm always twisted about Inuyasha, if I'd count it), but I still like some of them a lot. Especially Inuyasha, Sailor Moon, Yu-Gi-Oh and Conan, but I also still like Digimon, Pokemon (more the new seasons), Beyblade, Pretty Cure and Monster Rancher.

They are just kids anime and I think it's unfair to compare them with anime that are targeted to an older audience. For what they want to be, they are still pretty good.

I never liked most shounen tho, so I never got into Naruto and the like and I kinda dislike Dragonball.

One punch man, Hetalia, Bananya and Madoka Magica were pretty early on. First 100, excluding Pokémon.
So, 4. Haven't been watching anime all that long, though.

Edit: To be clear, I don't know when I watched these. I think Hetalia or OPM would have been the earliest, but still over 20 anime in (including stuff like Naruto).

Of all the anime I consider a favorite, there a few Ghibli Movies that I more or less have there for nostalgia as well as Tokyo Ghoul, which was my first anime that I watched knowing that it was anime. In the case of at least Tokyo Ghoul, there's definitely a bias.

Not really. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is pretty much the only "beginner anime" that I still consider a 10/Favorite.

Pretty much all the other titles that I saw in my first year or so of anime-watching are now sitting in the 6-8 score range on my list (and some of those scores are admittedly forgiving 'cause of slight nostalgia).
