Heh Kagura is still all over Kyo, hardly surprising.

Rin is back again although I see she's keeping distance from Tohru. On the other hand, I find it interesting that they explored more of Kyo and Kagura's past when they were younger. Seems Kyo was quite a sensitive boy back then.

Another beautiful episode to say the least. We all knew this conversation was eventually going to be confronted and now both sides got to say their true feelings towards each other.

This episode was adapted pretty well.
Tohru visited Kazuma to find out more about the curse, which yeah the zodiac animals have their bond tied to their god and it's in their own world so outsiders wouldn't understand how they would feel towards their god, Akito.
We got to see our goth girl Rin again.
Really proud of my girl Kagura.
The op song played during Kagura's scene.

I am not a big fan of Kagura since she annoyed every episode she was in (Probably since I don't like characters that resemble a yandere) But this episode kinda made me like her. Nice to see her and Kyo take about their feelings.
I hope she won't continue to chase after him.

People can say a lot of things with Kagura. But for her to finally confess everything, and Kyo confessing too was a freaking crazy tear flow. I knew it had to come where Kyo would tell Kagura something that he love Tohru. But I guess he may not need to since Kagura knows the obvious.

Poor Kagura had a bad case of "Not-Being-the-Main-Character-itus", so she never really stood a chance at winning Kyo's heart. MC power > AC or DC power.

Monogamy belief that rooted down to the core of humanity since the pre-historic era is causing many problems. Most problems in Fruits Basket can be solved, or even not occur in the first place, if they're all polyamory believers.

Damn, that takes some courage to reveal all that out in the open. Of course it doesn't lighten her sin by any means but letting it all out is definitely a huge step in the right direction, I reckon. I was expecting Kyo to reveal his feelings for Tohru somewhere along the line but I suppose that's for later.

Meanwhile, Tohru is dead set on fighting back against this "curse". Good, good. Interestingly enough, the Horse Zodiac has a similar scheme in her mind too I imagine. I wonder how that'll go.

Good to see Ayame-nii back, by the way. Such an eccentric personality he's got, I'll never get tired of his antics xD.

Looking forward to the next episode. Narration was done by Hatori's CV so I wonder if it'll be focusing on him next week...

Ngl, I cried a bit. Kagura has my respect. It is not easy to confess all that.
We got to see little Kyo.

That's a huge amount of mental weight off Kagura's shoulders now. She knows she lost that day when Tohru saw Kyo's true form for the first time and acted differently from how Kagura herself did in almost the exact same scenario.

Kagura calling herself selfish and saying to to have looked down on Kyou at one point....that's a sort of psyche that I've also seen in bullies, both in real life and in fiction. Sure, her closure here may not erase her sins completely, but it's at least a step forward in the right direction.

As far as I know, polyamory doesn't happen all that often in mangas you know.

Man what a episode again. Didn't really like Kagura that much before but now that everything makes sense she isn't too bad.

And Tohru wanting to help Kyo. Can't wait to see where that goes.

....but this doesn't.....have anything to do with polygamy though? Kyo literally said he doesn't see her that way so it's not like she had a chance to begin with

i thought this was a nice and refreshing episode after everything we've been with over the last few episodes, despite how sad it was (for kagura at least lmao) i mean, i saw this coming eventually we all know who kyo's heart belongs to now <3

regardless, i still think it was brave of her to come out and say how she felt towards him and why, despite knowing that she was probably going to end up being rejected.

also i love baby kyo so much!! he's so precious and must be protected at all costs!

Awww, Kagura! She has nothing to apologise for; she may have reached out to Kyo for selfish reasons but she was just another kid who was hurting and in the end, she was probably the first ray of light and kindness in Kyo's life.

It's amazing how much Kyo has changed from season 1. He's so mature, loving and incredibly kind. My biggest wish is that one day he and Yuki can see eye to eye, beyond their Zodiac Spirits, because they both deserve to be understood by each other.

Tohru's meeting with Kazuma was interesting and much needed for her to understand the whole situation better, regarding the curse and if it really was true about the confinement of Kyo. I am glad to see that Kazuma and Tohru has the same goal in mind, don't want to give up without a fight.

Kagura found closure, eventho she realized that she really did have feelings for Kyo, that embrace was T_T

So, like I thought, they adapted chapters 66, 67, 68 in this episode, but they had to cut out a lot and change some things. But looks like finally next episode is chapters 56-57 which they had skipped, so I 'm happy. I think they will include all the stuff they skipped for this episode in episode 13, so school can start again. It schould have started with this episode, but chapters 56-57 happen when it's still summer break, so they changed things a bit.

Anyway, about this episode. Tooru goes to Kazuma to ask about the details about the curse (since she wants to break it). She meets Rin who ''asked the same question''. The curse is the bonds of blood...
Kagura confesses her true feelings to Kyou who thanks her for playing with him and loving him. I cried at the end when she screamed "Kyou-chan, I love you so much!'' and thought "Believe me!". I don't remember how I felt when I first read that part in the manga because it was a long time ago, but it was really touching now with the music and voice acting. Really good episode.

It's a pretty comforting thought that even if your emotions are misguided, if you can find why they went off track and have the courage to properly confront that, you can both find peace and still be able to enjoy the positive aspects of those formerly misguided emotions. Although that probably isn't true in all cases, at least it was here.

The little girl Kagura finally grew up, only to find her wishful romance was filled with true love beneath the selfish surface. Her heart was broken, but her soul was healed.
Every day you can read a book or watch some anime is a good day!

F to Kagura. Kagura and Kyo accepted their feelings whether they like it or not. This helps them move on past it. It gives the viewers a weird feeling after that scene. The other zodiac members have bitter feelings toward the cat and Kagura admitted her true feelings toward Kyo. Kagura was trying to love him because she was trying to make up for her guilt and eventually she really did fall in love with Kyo. It wasn't originally pure love but it was too late when she really found out that she really loved him which is so sad. It's a familiar feelings that a lot of people have when they find out that the other person doesn't like you back.

Overall they did a good job with this scene. Most of the time before Kagura was annoying to the viewers but I actually liked her in this episode. This episode makes a lot of people feel sad.

I'm glad that Kagura let her insecurities out which really broke my heart and I'm glad Kyo accepted it! Not gonna lie I cried a bit.

Fruits Basket is in form, dishing out constant emotional and powerful episodes every week. However, this one is more special because of how honest Kagura was to Kyo.

It takes a lot of honesty and courage to admit the things that Kagura told to Kyo while on their date. Both confessed their true feelings to each other during the whole scene and while Kyo won't ever return Kagura's feelings, the way that he hugged her while she cried her heart out was powerful. It got me tearing up, too. ^_^;

The other parts of the episode were very good, too. Tohru visited Kazuma in her hope of finding a way to break the curse of the Soma clan. Although Kazuma didn't have much of an answer to give to her, he still stayed optimistic about it.

Rin's appearance in this episode was brief, but it was enough to show that she and Tohru share the same goal, although Rin is not pleased with the fact that Tohru is sticking her head into the whole Soma curse mess in the first place.

So yeah, this episode was a blast. Kagura is taking a step in the right direction and even though she's not the most liked character at this point of the story, I'm expecting a lot of people here to have respect for her honest confession to Kyo. She deserves that respect, after all. =)

Oh my, this one adapted three chapters from the manga again. Parts of Chapter 66 and the full chapters of 67 and 68 got adapted with this latest episode. Scenes either got shuffled around or shortened for the most part to cram in this episode's events focused on Tohru trying to learn how to break the Sohma curse and Kagura coming to terms with her feelings for Kyo. The good chunk of Chapter 66 not used in this episode may be used in a later episode for the series, so won't comment on it for now. But otherwise, here were changes I noticed in this latest episode:

-The opening with Kagura and her mother talking was added for the anime.
-While recalling her time with Kyo, the anime removed spoken dialogue of Kagura calling out to Kyo.
-A small bit of the scene with Tohru and the Sohmas returning home was cut from the anime where Tohru commented on Kyo and Yuki maturing mentally and possibly having physically grown.
-Some of Kyo and Yuki’s comments remarking on Ayame’s presence in Shigure’s house and their banter with Ayame were removed for the anime.
-Tohru was talking with Kunimitsu over the phone, whose spoken dialogue was not heard for the anime.
-Tohru’s conversation with Kazuma was briefly interrupted in the manga when Kazuma realized he forgot to serve Tohru tea, which the two are shown sipping on at points later during their conversation in the manga. In addition, some lines from their conversation and Kazuma having some inner thoughts regretting that he is burdening Tohru with caring for Kyo were all removed from the anime.
-Kagura’s encounter with Kyo originally took place at Kazuma’s dojo in the manga.
-Before leaving Kazuma’s house in the manga, Kazuma asked Tohru if Kyo knows of him being locked away when he graduates. Tohru says “no” and Kazuma wishes her well as she leaves.
-Tohru having a collection of flashbacks where Kyoko and the Sohmas told her to be herself was removed from the anime.
-Isuzu was dressed in school clothes in the manga instead of casual clothes. In addition, Tohru’s interaction with her had additional dialogue in the manga.
-Some bits of Tohru’s conversation with the Sohmas at Shigure’s house were removed from the anime. This included some additional dialogue with Yuki and Tohru’s conversation regarding Isuzu, Shigure asking if anyone wanted rice cakes he got from Mitsuru, and an annoyed Kyo shoving his hand into Shigure’s face when the older Sohma remarked on Kyo and Yuki fighting.
-Some of Kagura’s inner thoughts regarding Kyo’s growth were removed for the anime.
-Following Kyo’s rejection of Kagura’s love, there is a removed portion of the scene where Kagura was thinking about knowing that Kyo was never in love with her and she was actively trying to repress her thoughts on the matter for her own feelings.

Judging from the teaser for next week's episode...

not reading the manga or watching the first version of this, i was always interested on why kagura loves kyo when he clearly doesn't so it's nice we got their backstory.

their backstory literally made me cry though i don't know why. the way the music played with all the flashbacks i can't help but feel bad for kagura ): hope we get to see more on how she copes with it in future episodes! :D

This episode focuses more on Kaguya and her strained relationship with Kyou, out of forced love.

It's nice seeing Ayame once again...boy this character doesn't get enough love HAHA.

But getting into the serious stuff, Tohru asking Kazuma about Kyo's situation, and acquiring about breaking the Soma curse. After the mental damage felt last episode, Tohru has a strong will to stop this, but it'll take more than just affection to cut them from the source (Akito). The bonds that tightly bind the zodiac members, she wants to be that change and relieve them of the fear that Akito resided on them. Even the coincidental meet with Rin is the same, but different (to keep the status quo instead, seriously, what's with this girl).

When it comes to the situation tending to both Kagura and Kyou though, I'd think that we've seen enough of her antics to render her a nuisance to Kyou, and that was back in Season 1. But for a change, understanding her POV in Kyou's circumstances greatly changes the atmosphere. For her to see Kyou's true form, negating her negative self and forcing her love onto Kyou as means of jealousness and selfishness, it was all a one-sided love from the beginning.

Nevertheless, Kyou confessing that he won't fall in love with her, yet appreciate her presence around in his young days, what comes around, comes around. Her love may not be reciprocated, but at least for the substantial amount of memories made, and the forced love showered upon him, it was all worth it in the end.

Lots of honest feelings and the feels, especially for Kagura's confession to tie the loose knots and bring an end to her farce love. It was painful to end this, but the closure was just as heartbreaking, yet beautiful.

Another great episode as always.

I love how Fruits Basket did in 1 episode, what Yesterday wo Uttate never did with Haru in 11 episodes. Kagura's backstory makes sense as to why she were like that, glad things wrapped up nicely to a safe conclusion between those two.

Man, Kyo has matured a lot lately, he looked so handsome today, despite him looking way too serious haha. Not just that, despite Yuki's taunts, he seems less reactive now.

Also, @Stark700, @KANLen09 Ya'all should check your typos xP it's Kagura not Kaguya, hahaha.

As soon as Kagura appeared I thought I would dread the episode. But thankfully the confession scene and backstory on her and Kyo's childhood together was very satisfying. Kyo looked mighty fine and you could see his growth in this episode. Also I hope this episode signals further development for Kagura because as she is right now, she is my least favorite character in the series.

Oh my heart. Every episode of this series manages to knock a little breath out of me. Seeing Kyo become more serious and mature in his feelings for Tohru, a door closed with a door opened. Seeing Tohru open up to Shisho and take on the curse head on was another door that has finally opened. It’s going to be a real rollercoaster from here on, I’m not sure how much more emotional trips I can take here!

As much as I enjoyed the episode and seeing things flowed seamlessly after returning back from the beach vacation house, this episode more than any other really underscores the fact that this is the sort of great long and winding drama and romance saga that initially pulled me into anime so much, and my only complaint about that is that I kind of wish I had held firm on my earlier resolution to not start a series until after it's already finished airing, as this is the exact type of show I could easily see watching 6-8 episodes a day of binging.

But I just don't have the resolve to wait years for it...

That was quite the episode. It always enlightening to go through some sort of metamorphosis, or a process, caused by one's self-reflecting. Kagura looked down at Kyo for being much more pitiful than her, hanging out with him out of selfish desires to feel good about herself, only to genuinely fall in love with him down the road. Isn't that romantic? I don't exactly blame her. She was a sad, depressed child. It was very understandable. It takes a strong person like Kagura to heed to the reality come from her self-reflecting.

Really beautiful episode but in hindsight I do find it very rushed in this reveal to completely write a new element into Kagara’s character who up till now has come across as a delusional but well meaning girl who has a childish crush on Kyo. That new element ofc being that she only liked him at the start because it made her feel better about herself.

I wish we did get an episode or two about her development or her own interactions to better contextualize her own personality and her relationship with Kyo

It would have definitely made the closure in this episode hit even harder. There was a small moment in this episode where she basically knew all along that things would never last and I feel an episode where she had to learned to live with this reality would have really provided a big emotional boost to moments like that in this episode.

Finally, this thing got sorted out. It was really hard for Kagura to confront her feelings or the way she meant rationalizing her feelings that made her unclean. Also Kyo-chan said what he wanted to. The last few lines that Kagura said in her room in darkness were sad.

"The Kyo-kun that held me and stayed with me till my tears dried. Let that all be mine... at least till the morning flower dawns." Aahhhh :(

A beautiful episode. Fruits Basket just keeps it coming.

Tohru's really set on the path of breaking the curse of the Zodiacs. And surprisingly, it seems Rin is too. She's probably the only Zodiac right now thinking about that. What Rin said about Tohru and how she won't let her do anything unnecessary, I'm guessing that Rin is in a way trying to protect Tohru. I think she doesn't want anyone outside of the Somas to suffer for them?

Ah, a Kagura-focused episode. She might be annoying, but I love her very much. She's so cute and bubbly.

Kyo really has changed. We can see it here from how he interacts with Kagura. It's so different from season 1, when Kyo would've blown up over every little thing.

From the beginning of the episode, I had felt that this episode, one way or another, was going to be the "end" of Kagura x Kyo. It's jut that I didn't guess how or why...

Really loved how they looked on the date though.

Kagura may have always looked down on Kyo (perhaps until recently, but not anymore) and her love might've started from trying to rationalise what happened and her reaction to it, but I think in the end she truly does love him. When she turned around and shouted all her feelings out, confessing them, my eyes got watery. When she called him Kyo-chan just like they were kids...

"Daisuki! Daisuki da yo!"

I had goosebumps going all over, especially with the OP playing. You know something's serious happening when the OP starts playing. Kagura was hoping that at least, even if Kyo could not reciprocate her feelings, he could at least believe it and acknowledge it.

I was just bursting with happiness when Kyo hugged her. Seems that Kyo didn't leave her alone, and stayed with her until her crying stopped and her tears dried. Kyo can't love her, but at least the Kyo in that moment was something only she herself had... even if it only lasts until the dawn.

Damn. This episode's beautiful, emotional, and amazing! The narration, dialogue, and monologue were all top-notch. Loved it so much.

Now... what's with Hattori?

I never liked Kagura, I'm not gonna lie. However, I understand her a bit more in this episode. I'm relieved because Kyo is finally free from her. Now Kyo can be with whoever he wants without worrying about Kagura attacking them like some kind of psycho.

Loved seeing Rin and Ayame again though. Wish their screen time was longer.

It wasn't rushed.

In Season 1, Episode 4 we got flashbacks to when Kyo and Kagura were children, with him drawing the fried egg in the sand and Kagura smiling and reaching her hand out to him. That episode also gave us some insight into their past. Kagura also mentions Kyo's True Form here before Kyo stops her. Season 1 Episode 23 or 24 (I believe), I can't remember exactly, has Kagura bring up his True Form again and we see a flashback to a smiling and happy Kyo and Kagura heading to the spot where they talk here in today's episode.

Then, in Season 1 Episode 25 we see Kagura being contemplative after the True Form incident. Yuki notes that something seems off with her and we can see that this incident deeply impacted her. The next time we see her is in Season 2 Episode 8, which is when Rin calls out Kagura's forced love for Kyo (she refers to it as a pretend love in the subtitles). We can see that those words hit a nerve and that Kagura is thinking about her relationship with Kyo again.

While outside the series it may seem like a lot of time has passed since the end of season 1, in-series the time between season 1, episode 25 and this episode is probably a couple weeks to a month at best. We also see Kagura looking a bit contemplative at the start of this episode as well.

If the series had divulged too deeply into Kagura's contemplative thoughts, then I feel we would have gotten a lot of repetitve, repeat thoughts to what we seeing her confessing to in this episode and it would have made the scene less impactful overall, imo. We are given enough small hints here and there about Kyo and Kagura's past friendship and history as well as that Kagura is being reflective of Kyo and her relationship with Kyo and then this episode fully expands on that.

Kagura made the realization and has now made it a reality by confessing to it, but that doesn't mean her character is now done and over with. Now she has to live with this new reality and change in relationship dynamic with Kyo.

I completely agree with you.
I feel like, maybe because it is a long running show and people are watching it while it airs, they tend to forget a lot of small details or probably just don't pay attention to them... There were even some people in the comments of previous episodes wondering if Kureno is Torhu's dad and coming up with theories about her father, while it was clearly stated in Season 1 that her dad caught a cold that worsened and he passed away. This was also why she overreacted when Yuki had a cold.. They've also mentioned her father passing in Season 2 as well... What I'm trying to say if you actually pay attention to what's happening in the show, hints are everywhere and everything is explained and makes sense.

A decent attempt, but still not even close to enough for me to be able to take Kagura's character seriously in any capacity.

I guess Rin has the same goals as Tohru. Seems like she also wants to break the curse.

It was an okay episode. I didn't really feel anything from Kaguras confession. If anything it showed us how much Kyo has developed.
