Different subtitles color, does it have any impact on your watching experience?

So I started watching some older anime recently and I have noticed that some of them do have "Yellow" Sub color. Personally i enjoyed reading them much more than the current white subtitles, i think they are more comfortable.

Also, there are some sub-teams who use Mixed colors, like for example the main dialogue is with "white" and the names with "red" and the narrative with "blue". Do you like it more that way?

I had this question in my mind for some time, what do you guys think?
Does different font color affects you in a way or another? If yes which color do you prefer? why?

I'll add a poll for lazy people.

I don't care at all, but white subs generally look cleaner. Character color-coded are also cool but I rarely see such.

I don't worry about it too much, but I typically prefer a yellow font myself.

White because of privileges. XD

jk. It just feels uncomfortable for me to see different colors of subs when I already got used to white.
And those special subs that have distinct colors when there are two or more characters speaking, confuses me rather than help me understand the context.

Yellow subtitles makes me feel old. I prefer white ones, as they tend to be less... distracting. I also remember those old subtitles used in the 2000's when the subtitles were colored differently depending of whom character was talking. Those were fun.

Damn, I remember watching dragon ball with yellow subtitles when I was a kiddo, well overall I don't really care as long as they don't interupt with the color pallete of the show, not that it ever happened but I wouldn't want to watch a darker show with pink subtitles, other than that I guess I just dgaf.

I prefer yellow ones, or at least white ones with a dark border. My television's take on subtitles isn't too convenient, seeing as the letters are completely white and this means that they often fall away against a white background. I also much prefer hard-subs over soft-subs, as my television also encounters an issue here; when there is written Japanese text in the background (i.e. a newspaper headline, advertisement in front of a store, etc), and someone speaks over this timestamp, I will only see the subtitle that translates the written text, and the subtitles for the spoken text won't even appear on the screen anymore until the subtitle for the static text disappears.

White subs are always best, but piss-colored subs are fine in older shows. In fact, they're sometimes more preferable since they match the older visuals.

As long as it doesn't confuse with the background it's fine (years ago happened from time to time), so whatever colour as long there's an outline.

I prefer different colours for every character only when there are multiple characters speaking at the same time consistently throughout the show.

About the distracting part, in my major we studied color vision and i can confirm what you are saying that White font tends to make you focus more, but Yellow is more calm and relaxing and therefore more comfortable (according to that lecture), though what we discussed was based only on pure colored background, maybe its different in anime were background colors always change.

I guess sub-teams should try Yellow sub at least once for a new anime.
Agree that in old anime it matches the visuals.

No preference.

I like the mixed though at times, I guess. Differentiating characters that might be offscreen talking and such.

The font if anything though would have a impact on my watching experience above all else. I prefer just a simple standard font. I've seen some OPs/EDs though once or twice I believe with like a handwritten/cursive font and I found it a bit hard to read.

I prefer white subs with medium-sized neutral fonts and condensed dialogue, like The Criterion Collection.

Without any of those tasteless graphics and captions all the fansubbers love to write all over the picture, nor lines at the top for unimportant background dialogue. The worst case of this I remember is Little Witch Academia by the GG group, where the main dialogue at one point went to the top and the background dialogue to the bottom.

If I had a preference it would be to have multiple colors. It's easier to follow a conversation between multiple people if they give each person a color. Or there are other times when the subtitles stick to a single color but end up being a similar color to what they're overlayed upon and it makes them hard to see.

According to various votes on MAL and AniDB, yellow subs are only bad when official subs use them. Same with white -- everybody's fine with it when fansubs use it, but any stream rip that features Funimation's white subs with black outlines suddenly has ugly/awful styling.

Gotta say the same as most other replies: white subtitles just look cleaner.

That being said, some early fansubs of Fairy Tail had character assigned colors that made it easy for me to adjust to watching with subs on. Then I got used to hearing Japanese voices and it no longer applies.

Just as long as there isn't a background to the subtitles like most tv's seem to do. That bugs the crap out of me. I mean I get it for live tv shows but not for translations.

Yellow subs are racist because it is cultural appropriation of Asian skin color to use yellow subs

I'd go with any mild light colours. White, light blue, dull yellow or light ink. The default seems to be white anyways, but I'd prefer multi-colour when many people are speaking.

So long as the font is clean and legible, and the color (if any) isn't too saturated/dark, I don't care what color the subtitles are.

As an example, one anime I'm watching currently has white font with blood red outlines. That's fine, but if they used that same red for the ENTIRE font, it would become annoying as all hell.

Color subtitles, imo, should generally stay in a very light hue (sky blue, easter green, etc), the only exception being yellow. That color can get away with being a bit more saturated since it stands out so well.

While I do kinda like the choice of colors there (I'm a sucker for blue/white,), that font choice is just bad lol. I think there's something to be said about font fitting with the anime's theme too; that just doesn't look "Conan" to me at all.
