Damn this episode was intense. Kinda amusing how they got fighter aircraft in this alternate world setting. Adding dragons and all the other shenanigans gave me some GATE vibes.

Glad to see they gave Abe no screen time as he led a pretty entertaining battle. The music is dope and the violence is pretty evident. Shimazu with twin guns is badass :D

Quite the seige. So a full episode introducing and hyping up the Ends. As interesting as the slaughter was I wish we got some actual Drifters vs Ends action. In due time I suppose. Tempting as Anastasia's tits are I'll side with the Drifters for now. Olminu's better anyway. XD

Decent episode, nice to see some sort of clarification on what's going on. You can totally see this is directed by one of Jojo's old directors.

Awesome episode, The onslaught of the Black King's army was just brutal and savage. All that blood and violence was gruesome but awesome to watch, Plus they have dragons!! XD

So the main conflict here is between people called the 'Ends' working for the Black King with possibly that woman in the last episode and the Drifters who fight against them sent by the glasses guy.
Pretty cool that we have historical figures from multiple countries, The Ends seem to have some sort of spirit or something that accompanies them and their powers.
Interesting that Joan of Arc has the power of Fire, I guess that's a play against the fact that she was burned to death.

I love the pure badassery and craziness of the Drifters and the Ends, From Hijikata slicing up people, to Joan of Arc's incineration to that flashy escape on the cart with the mini-guns and the fighter plane taking down the dragon, It's just so epic to watch. Love it.

The spy got figured out at the end. The trio from the last two episodes don't give a shit about the war. xD
3 episodes in and this is definitely turning out to be one of my favorite shows of this fall season.

So far I'm loving the concept of the whole Drifters vs Ends thing, especially since both sides are essentially using historical figures from our world in addition to the current forces of the new world

Hannibal and Scipio are too funny and being familiar with their historical tales and feats only has me even more hyped to see how they're used in this series, because these two men are tactical and strategic GENIUSES and are so badass

I dunno who the two gunslingers (Not sure if we even got their names tbh) are exactly but so far I like them....In regards to the Ends, that swordsman is crazy powerful lol and Jean and that other hot girl having elemental powers is impressive even tho Jean is clearly a psychopath

Not sure how I feel about that yet since historically she's seen as a victim and isn't really depicted like how she is here, but I will say that it's an interesting take on the character and her controlling fire is quite ironic lol...I need to research all of the other people that I don't know though, and especially that cool pilot, he's awesome and I love his personality

Overall, it was a great action packed episode and it set up events quite nicely if you ask me....Looking forward to finding out more about this black king though and that post credits scene was waaaaay too funny xD

Is the last thing shown a stigmata?

Is the black king Jesus?

If it ever gets lower than that, consider me dead.

Definitely a much better episode with a lot less "comedy" and a focus on introducing Octobrist and the Ends. I thought it was an interesting detail how the fighter pilot chose his side based on how the destruction of the city reminded him of the war.

That post-credits scene was awful though; what could have been an interesting scene was instead made almost painful to watch by yet more "comedy" that is the exact opposite of funny.

So interesting with these clusters of historic people appearing. The ppl who have been wronged like Joan of Arc and etc are basically the bad guys (END/Black King's Army) trying to take down humanity. Drifters are send here to fight them it seems.

R.I.P. dragons, you stood no chance against superior Nippon steel :'(

End's are people who died a bad death and their thinking changed I guess because joan de arc is an End and the black king should be Jesus.

It is way more complex than just a "good versus evil" kind of story. Each side has characters that do not represent their side, for example Rasputin is portrayed "neutral" so far, with blue eyes, not red madness ones. The Shinsengumi airforce captain is a madman himself and the only thing that turned him into a "Drifter" is that he got mixed signals on dragons, seeing B-29's in them. Black king himself is wearing a white coat, he might be a saint of sorts or even a person that did not get recorded in history at all, trying to do good but turning in your average villain on the way. The "main character" trio itself is bunch of bloodlusty ... samurais, which will bait them one day.
But sure some are simply insane and twisted, like that Joan de Ark and her friend. Completely evil. No justification, next!

well this episode was packed full of action, slaughter and blood, they present us more heroes that got onto this world (Jean of arc being a psycho pyromantic is a genuine usage of her death)

Wow this was a really intense episode. I like the setup with this whole war between the Drifters and the Ends, can't wait to see more badassery from both sides. My problem with this show is still, as I'm sure most people can guess, the comedy, and after 3 episodes I think I figured out why I don't like it. It's not because it isn't funny, it's just the timing is bad. The comedy in this series could work but when it's being put in scenes that should be serious, or right after a serious conversation, it comes off as jarring.

Btw @Tokoya the two gunslingers are Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

I'd rather have stupid comedy at moments where I can wave it off together with those very moments than have them twist the mood unto the serious setup.

I can see a pattern of those with the Ends being historical characters who died in strange, violent circumstances. Interesting. I'm yet to find a patter to the Drifters yet.

Ok so I understand why Hijikata Toshizo and Joan of Arc are fighting, they were warriors after all.
But Anastasia Romanov? She was a haemophiliac Russian princess (who was murdered at the age of 17) not exactly the sort of person you want fighting a battle.

I'm loving the action in this episode. Savage and gory, but done in the style that makes it epic and cool. =D

Seeing more Drifters turn up is pretty cool as well, from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, to the Japanese pilot who's gone mental and started to shoot down the dragons with ease. Despite the lack of Toyohisa and co in this episode, it's good to see the other drifters as well as The Ends take the spotlight and show off their skills.

So far, I like where the direction of this show is going. Once most of the Drifters eventually assemble together, their battle against The Ends will hopefully be bloody awesome. Just thinking about makes me look forward to it potential happening more. =)

Great episode overall.

The first thought that comes to mind at Black King is that he was the lord on Earth known as Jesus (Which went to heaven and could not possibly be affected by that strange magic of man in glasses in hallway, right?!)
It is a justified theory, but they simply would not set him as a reluctant villain.
As for that he wondered, is because they simply come from the hallways. They do not know what is happening behind their world, between the "Light and Dark" man and woman. As insane the pilot is he has all the chances of being sent by Easy. How he perceived the dragons made him "align" with Drifters. This is not just "black and white", the actual value of the show.

They got Hijikata as well! Too bad he's in the evil side. It's really amusing seeing all these killing specialists in one show.

I missed the crazy trio of the old castle. I only remember Nobunaga's name so they go by the crazy trio for me until I learn the names of the two others. i wanted to see more of them but I have to wait till next week.

Sundance Kid and Butch Cassidy from the notorious Butch Cassidy's Wild Bunch, an outlaw gang during the American Old West times. Bank robberies, train heists, you know the drill. There's an old quite popular western film about them.

Biblical Jesus can't be The Black King if one chooses to take what's written in the Bible as facts.
Historical Jesus on the other hand (lived, preached, died, had his followers write a bunch of exaggerated fairy tales about him post mortem) totally can be The Back King if one chooses to take what's written in the Bible as legends and myths.
Drifter manga is being written by a Japanese guy, statistically you can take a wild guess what his take on the Bible might be =).

Well both Jeanne and Stasha have been declared holy by the Roman Catholic and Russian Orthodox churches respectively, so I wouldn't think it beyond the writers to have the Black King be Jesus.

I don't think she was haemophiliac. Her little brother was, and it IS genetic disorder, but it is also known to manifest in males rather than females.

Yeah, I don't think she actually was a haemophiliac, I was just poking fun at the Romanovs.
I didn't know that women couldn't have severe haemophilia. Which is probably a good thing because haemophilia + menstruation = bad times.

Man, that is what I love from Kouta Hirano's style. He just simply puts a bunch a badass characters fighting between themselves to the death with over the top, great action.

Was nice seeing more of the other Drifters. All of them are really cool, from the two gunslingers to Naoshi Kanno, who so far has had the most badass entrance of all the series fodderizing those dragons. Interesting to know that the Drifters are alligned depending of how they react to the world where they are sended.

Respecting the Ends, well, it seems they have supernatural powers unlike the Drifters who have their actual skills. We have Zorin Blitz... I mean, pyromaniac Joan of Arc (and I pressume the big guy with her is... Gilles de Rais?), Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna with ice powers, Hijikata Toshizo, some bishie guy voiced by Akira Ishida and the Black King (who for the moment, looks like Jesus) commanding an army of goblins, dragons and the likes.
You cannot have something more badass than that, really.

And after the credits, the glasses girls meets our main trio... who is not interested at all in the war. Impatient to see what path this will take.
