physical copies > digital ones

So yes, I always buy books. Sadly I don't always buy manga, but I plan to own a lot more in the future. It's also my dream to have my own small library/collection of books, manga and light novel in the future.

I do. Most libraries don't have the books I look for and I like having a collection

Thus, my huge manga and book collection.

Sorry I don't believe in libraries.
They have a very limited selection.

Same. I like owning things, in general. I don't want to entrust my book and media collection to third parties.

In my opinion that's the only way to enjoy books (excluding manga)

I have purchased many this year. So I would say it is true. Personally I would rather hold the book then read it off my ipad.

Yeah, I still do. I prefer reading and holding a physical book rather than an eBook.
The smell of the book's pages is what gets me going

I buy books now and then. I actually like having the physical book over just reading it on an electronic device.

OP must have an amazing library. My library experience was always looking through their catalog and finding out that I have to drive 2-3 hours to get to a library with the book I'm looking for.

Also, the opportunity cost (time + gas) for even the nearest library is much higher than the cost of picking up an interesting book from work at the end of my shift. And I can read an owned book whenever I want and at whatever pace I want rather than being limited by when and for how long I can check the book out from the library.

Ever since my late discovery of the Internet, I've deserted my hardcore habit of tearing through multiple books on a weekly basis. Man I used to be a hard reader.

I still love being able to go to the book store and take in the wonderful smell of fresh paper and ink and getting the same smell back at home on my couch about to go into a new book, it's just not as often.

Why not?
Being able to hold the real thing makes you feel blessed.
As much as I do read novels and manga online, I sometimes do prefer to have a hard copy of it so that I could read them again and again whenever I wanted to.

I don't buy them often but I find it pretty normal that people keep buying books. If it's one that I really find interesting I'd definitely prefer having a physical copy rather than one found on the internet. Same with mangas but it's not easy to buy them in my country.

My husband buys books (physical copies and audio books) so he can take them on deployment. Our library just has old, boring books- I kind of stopped reading actual non-manga books years ago.

This. I did a Navy deployment in 2013 and I was constantly ordering new books off Amazon. The ship had a library, but with the exception of Harry Potter, almost every book was about US Naval history. In 9.5 months I read over 30 books, and all of my storage space was full of more books that I hadn't gotten to yet (I shipped the ones I had already read home to make room to order more books).

Plenty of people still buy books. I like owning a physical copy of a book to keep by my side. One book I'd love to own physically is American Psycho.

Was it the shyness in my soul that made me lonely just like you? No one noticed I was there, when I walked into the room.

Sometimes I get both digital and paper of the same book.

Most of my books are religious in nature, and I use them for study and need to reference them all of the time.

I do add them into my Logos program and index them, so I can do word studies, and other tools.

But I do really love owning good quality reference books. And all my church books, if there is no more computers one day, or no more electricity, I can still survive and keep the church going.

And I do like touching a new book, smelling it, and like the look of my bookcase when a new book is put in ( and I have to retire one or somehow make room for it..)

Typically I will go to the library to find authors/books I'm not familiar with. Then if I happen to stumble upon something I greatly enjoyed I will go out and purchase it. There are also a few authors that I enjoy to the extent I purchase most (or all) of their new releases as they come out.

They have no manga near where I live unless they cost 30 dollars per manga, so... it's best to buy things like that online. And I'd have to buy yaoi only online, too.

I agree, the public library exists for a reason.

There is something about having a book that's organic. Something that says "it's there". You can hold it, you can smell the pages, etc. If it's in digital format, I'll forget I even have it. Plus I never have to worry about the batteries on a book going bad.

Hell yeah I still buy books, if I am really interested in some of them or if I have read them in the past and I want to own them. You can read them as many times as you like and physical copies are infinitely better.

I buy physically books because I don't like to be rushed to read a book especially if I'm having a busy week and I just love to own things that I like instead of borrowing it.
Let’s say I posed this question to you: “Can all human souls be bought with money or not?” Now remember, the keyword here is “all”. The answer is “There are times when you can buy them, and other times, not,” right? The human being… sometimes he’ll uphold his pride and conscience even if he’s offered ten billion yen, and other times he’ll murder someone over one yen. ~Izaya Ohira (Durarara)

up until a few years ago books used to be my favorite thing to buy and filling up my bookshelf was one of my life goals
now I'm too poor not to mention I had a tendency to buy books that I only read one chapter of then never picked up again
thus wasting money

so I "read" audiobooks on youtube now

The only books I typically buy are Manga.

I have regular novels, but most of them were given to me for free. The rest were bought in a second hand shop for very cheap.

I do love buying books and I don't regret it. It's nice to have a personal collection of books in your house, your own mini-library, a bookshelf which you can expand. Also convenient to revisit the books you really enjoyed, whenever the hell you feel like it.

I use public library mostly for my paper works, to find more information, expand my research, etc.

It's true!

I love reading books in physical form.. Also there are a lot of libraries closing in my area, they're dying out. As other users said, they also often don't have the books I'm looking for.

Plus owning your own copy is the best! Looking at a good book I read on my bookshelf makes me happy.

Yes, I love buying books. I like to read even when there's a lot of text and no chinese drawings, and I like to give good books too. I bought some of my favorites 3 times or more.
