Mm, more training and buildup this episode. Honestly, I hope it's worth it because they are pretty much saving the remainder episodes to show how these guys improved. But honestly, I'm not that impressed. They're trying hard though so I guess some credit could be given for that.

Glad to see character relationships improve though.
Fujiwara still has that competitive personality going on but he's also embracing friendship + teamwork more.

Kimura-san's character trying hard because he's trying to find out why he became slow at second half. lol @ Shimono-san's character and OnoKen's character combi as usual. Feeling while running(?) according to the running time, so he needs to overcome his trauma. Nobu's character accompanying Kimura-san's character because he trusts him. Shimono-san's character is trying to get back on track, too, by rehabilitation. After a day of training, he starts to run away.

Meeting Kimura-san's character's running rival / friend from idol team, who bought bread from the bakery at his place. More detail about why he gave up stride then, and realized he's been running away from his brother. The first years somehow ended up running in the rain together. Running together is the key to ease his trauma. I might be wrong but I think it's probably the first ep. to see Nobu's character's smile.

lol @ idol team about how many they should eat yakisoba bread after the ED.

vs. idol team next.

Riku's got into another "just the two of us" training with Fujiwara. Oh well Riku, you can do it. I'm even starting to think whose training is "harsher"... Saisei School, or Fujiwara's special training alone.

If only Tomoe said the same thing like Fujiwara did instead of apologizing to Riku, there might be "another Route".

Finally Riku got over his "he always before me" complex. That was a nice episode. But they showed a flash back.... Suspsicious... Though it's not the first hint about it. Wonder if they're going to say anything about. The last part (after the ending so hilarious).

I think someone should teach Riku History (For case you didn't know, the sentence Asuna said "I gave my enemy salt." is reference to Kenshin Uesuri giving Shingen Takeda rice when he was baned by another country and didn't get any rice, despite them being enemies).

I'm glad Riku got over his inferiority complex but... Wasn't that scene a bit exaggerated?

The yakisoba pan ending though.

Now that Riku has finally gotten out of this dramatic slump, he and everyone else should be able to hold their own in the final race(s). Lol that post-ending scene....

They probably wanted to exaggerate the drama for people who are fans of that kind of stuff.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

Well, insecurities are insecurities because you exaggerate them to the point that you can't get over them; but they appear exaggerated to everyone but you. The show needs to show that exaggeration, so it gave just the right gravitas to Riku's inferiority complex.

More training with Riku finally overcoming his emotional issues, Glad Angsty Riku is over with. Didn't like it when he got all dramatic about his complex.

Never expected that whole "I want to run with you" to work, It actually worked wonders :o.

2 more episodes. 1 match per episode I suppose.

Well that would be the ideal outcome, But I'm not sure if Honan can actually beat Tomoe's team.

To be honest i don't want them to beat Saisei just yet, even though there's a chance they might win. I'm glad Takeru was able to bring Riku out of that pit...helping someone pull themselves up is a lot better than apologizing like it was their fault...i wonder if Tomoe even knows it's not really his fault to begin with...

Reiji sama was too cute in that last bit... ;_;

Friendship is magic!

Okay I jest, that was actually built up to be kind of believable imo. I totally understand Riku's complex and though it took a while I'm glad he's finally realised why he's running.

Reiji was really cute at the end. Though it kinda bugs me sometimes that his teammates are like his servants.

Watch as the Yagami family yakisobapan singlehandedly brings down two members of the Saisei team XD

the light novels explain this part about why they're like that (especially with Shizuma) so I really hope they do another season and we get to see more of Saisei.

I also really wish they'd explain that weird flashback Takeru had while they were playing with fireworks at the beach in the previous ep? When he was like "Last time it was near the water too..." and the people in his flashback were like Nana and Riku... that part was a bit confusing for me...

The rain sequence was perfect. I really connected with Riku and was glad he was able to triumph over his fear. Anyone who rated this anime below a 5 for an average is ridiculous. I loved this episode and think the series deserves better than that.

I also can't wait until next episode when we find out what these childhood flashbacks are all about.

it's their opinion but i agree. it doesn't have ridiculous sequences and the comedy+drama is just right for me. heck for an anime based on novels geared to girls, one of the only girls isn't whiny and actually contributes to the story. the guys aren't made up to be creepy or too perfect as well.

Oh wow, they accidentally focused on training the right duo (Kohinata and Riku) Better change it to Takeru and Riku 'cause drama. Tbh Ayumu is the most entertaining at this stage. Tho Heath is the best. And Takeru kind annoys me at times. Riku is the most relatable one, I guess. Also, I like Asuma's bond with Riku bond more than Takeru's

Oh well, Takeru and Riku got married this episode and are living a happy life now. End of summary.

And did Suwa just try to behave like a moe wife in the last few seconds? -pretends I didn't see that but damn-

I looked through posts and didn't notice anything about plot inaccuracy. At the beginning of anime Heath says Kuga is few levels above him but in this episode we get to know that Heath and Takeru are better than Kuga...? They did more sets than him so I'm wondering if I understood everything properly. I know it's just a training but I had that feeling before too. It seems Kuga is not that good as he was told to be. What do u think about it? Could it be because of his stride break?

actually, no. riku's "drama" mad a lot of sense.

Joycdonnell said:

it's not trauma, just more of an internal struggle.
-------
so riku was basically half disgusted and half worshipped his brother at his apparent ease to persevere so much. no matter how hard and honest he tried, he was always stuck. he didn't give up because it was easy to, but because he tried so many times and nothing worked. he saw it as hopeless, but was afraid to say that too himself, so he decided to join again. everything worked out - whenever he would lose he would get enough confidence to get better.

then summon the god, tomoe. he was right back at square one. tomoe was also a symbol of riku giving up in the past, so he wanted to change that, but it didn't work. his friend put up his spirits a bit, but along came his other friend when he practiced and obliterated his chances of running. again.

he couldn't take it anymore. he stopped in his tracks and silently gave up.
then his friend gave him something that had never happened before. riku always ran alone, even in competitions. but this friend wanted to do it together.

yes, the happy part was rushed, rushed so much it suprised me, but this was actually a well directed episode. had it been any other anime, there would have been a lot of "thinking-talking" about his past, but that didn't happen. the episode gave leeway to the audience's intelligence and showed some flashbacks, and riku LOOKING like he was thinking a lot. it was really easy to guess what he was thinking. so obvious that it wasn't reserved for the audience but riku's friends as well.

besides that, the OST for the rain was perfect and the only one so far that caught my interest. very impressive episode. 5 stars.
