Well, she sure got *my* beast mode activated. :P Anyway, out of the four successors, the anime only spent enough time to develop Nagare's character, so I found them lacking and too much like cardboard-cutouts. Sis and bro were walking liabilities. I also thought the anime didn't work out the sci-fi "Fantastic Voyage" with the series' otherwise mystical atmosphere. Still, that ending. Must have blown half the budget of the episode on it! :D |

| Honestly, while I appreciated the epicness of Ushio's conviction to do this, I'm glad this little mini-arc is now over. These past two episodes have had too much cut for me, especially regarding Jun. It's all still there from the manga, but they missed one key detail: It's not about her long-awaited thank you... which doesn't make much sense from a logic standpoint (they've obviously been in communication for most of their lives since then), but the fact that Moritsuna thought he frightened her all along because of his powers, just because she said that. It no doubt strained their relationship in the years since. That's a bit stronger than merely a belated apology from being children, which to me, seems to be most of what the anime focuses on. They really should have cut out that tired old Beast Spear opening from last episode just to include one line of Jun, akin to, "And he avoided me since" or "our relationship was never the same", something like that, followed by, "and now he's possessed" <---Manga line. 25 seconds; they could have and should have done it. Because that was left out, I didn't really feel that strong of a connection to Moritsuna and Jun, which kinda devalued Ushio's extreme sacrifice. Not bad episodes by any means, either... but, just, a step down from the rest. Looks like it's going to get extreme again. |
