We all have a preference to watch an anime either subbed or dubbed.. most saying the subbed is more true to the original intention of the artists.

But I think we all also have an anime where we go against our standard response and watch the sub or dub instead of our typical choice.

For example, I almost always watch subs. My exception is PaniPoni Dash! because I feel the dubbed version is well acted and hilarious.

There must be people who always watched dubbed but realize the voice acting is terrible and thus watch subbed to actually enjoy the show, no?

Maybe Little Nemo as it's probably the only anime I've watched that I've only watched the dub of and I watched it when I was like 4. Other than that, no, not voluntarily. I did watch a few episodes of a short anime in English dub as I couldn't find the Japanese dub of those episodes anywhere.

I'll watch Panty and Stocking in English, that's for sure.
Maybe Cowboy Bebop too, but that's about it I think. Almost all anime I've watched are subbed.

I'll only consider watching the dubbed version if the characters in the anime have English names and if the dub is well received

It varies series to series. I usually prefer dubs because I like listening to my own native language. I also tend to make a decision based on the people involved in voicing the characters and viewer's opinions on which route to go.

The only dubs I really avoid are Neon Genesis Evangelion and Steins;Gate. Both are good but there were some issues in translation.

If the Japanese cast has no voice actors that I recognize and none that would be relevant today, then I will check out the English dub instead.

So for example, I would watch Binan Koukou which had an entirely newbie main cast because they still starting out but for a new Ghibli film, I would rather watch the dub because they don't choose voice actors that star in normal anime.

I watched Vash the Stampede in English.

I wouldn't be opposed to watching Steins;Gate or Spice & Wolf in English. TTGL might be okay iirc.

Not anime, but I think the English voice acting in Mighty Number 9 is shaping up to be roughly on par with the Japanese voice acting (minus Dynatron and Dr. Sanda).

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Pokemon? Eh, not that I really watch the main series of Pokemon anymore, but I watched Pokemon: The Origin both dub/sub and it might be the only time ever I've preferred dub, because I'm so used to the English names. Hitokage? Nah bitch, that's Charmander.

If the dub is really good like in Cowboy Bebop, Baccano etc. I'll watch it dubbed, otherwise I always stick to sub versions.

It's also kinda lame to hear Johnny Yong Bosch or Crispin Freeman in every freaking anime so yeah.

well... here are all the anime on my list i watched dubbed:
haruhi - one of my first anime; it took me until the second season to realize i was watching it dubbed o_0
malice@doll - not many streaming sites have it, and it's just easier to find dubbed;
angel beats ova - watched with my cousin; it was first result on google, and uploaded on youtube
mouse - the media player defaulted to dubbed, and i just went along with it (ironically ofc)

How 'bout no? I'd never had a dubbed anime. Exception when it broadcasted on the TV.
I'd rather watch Spongebob when it is dubbed. And I tried watching a dubbed anime and honestly it gives a creep because I can't really understand an anime if there aren't subtitle. I am much relying type to that because most of the words they spoke are unknown to me.

I'm pretty broad with my exceptions. I like both subbed and dubbed equally, though subbed is good more often than dub. Most dubs nowadays are solid at the least anyway.

I'll watch only Medabots and Digimon dubbed. I used to watch them when I was young in Hebrew, so it seems weird to me to watch it in Japanese. They feel completely different than any anime I discovered via the internet.

Yeah, fuck Sentai. I have heard one good dub from them, and it's Persona 4 the Animation, but they got (pretty much all) the Los Angeles VA's to come reprise their roles, so it's not really to their credit.

I generally give a lot of dubs a chance, and there are times I like the casts so much I watch it in both languages. For example, despite the anime being sub-par, The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan has reunited the English cast, so I'm watching the anime both dubbed and subbed. Durarara!! x2 is another anime I watch in both languages; I got into the original because of its stellar English voice cast.

Generally, sub is better. However, if the dub is good, I give it a try, always. Although, honestly, it just takes a lot of time. I typically need a great cast to force me to stay with the dub (e.g. Crispin Freeman). They're not bad, but many dubs fall short somewhere.

Sentai didn't make the Persona 4 dub. They outsourced it to LA. To be fair there are a few decent Sentai dubs but 90% of the stuff they put out isn't even close to being on par with what the other companies are putting out on a regular basis.

So in general, I do avoid Sentai. I tried giving Kid's on The Slope a fair go recently because a few people said the dub was good but as soon as I heard sans, chans and awkward line deliveries in a dub of a Watanabe series I knew something was wrong. Well, at least the Japanese voice acting is good.
