THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Uh I'm not too sure what to think of this. We get a cast of male idols. I have mixed thoughts on the first episode although the animation style looks strong.

Hopefully we'll hear more variety soon. I wasn't too impressed though. The OP song was okay. The ED song is quite something.

That ending where his sister walked in when he was doing that pose was pretty funny. Through out the episode they were practicing poses and dance moves. It was a good episode, it will be interesting to see what happens next.

One of the best starts to the season with one of the better ops so far. The anime is a nice change from the other anime we had with these new teens who dont really have much of a background in the field struggling and learning what it means to be an idol. Some parts were really embarrassing especially their introduction but very funny and at least shows everyone isnt perfect from day one.

Kira and Daiki best.

I usually love idol shows, but I'm feeling really lackluster with this first episode...

I think the president explained why I'm not feeling it, too. Kakeru is 'empty' and we're getting the story from his perspective. Yeah, that's not going to work for me, sorry. Hope he gets some sort of personality soon...

Meh, this was whatever. If it's too boring, I might have to drop. I found it hard holding back giggles at the "sentimental" parts.

Shun is pretty cute though. :3 So much manservice this season.

Good first episode, but it wasn't as entertaining as Tokyo Ghoul's I agree with that. I hope this will become as good as UtaPri and not as shitty as Blue Sky was.

Anything wrong with anime like Free! aimed for women? No one is forcing you to watch it, why did you even pick it up in the first place? Just stay with shows like Tokyo Ghoul.
I'm getting a bit tired of these kinds of comments.

"When you treat something embarrassing like it's embarrassing, it becomes painfully embarrassing." -- So obvious, yet a legit quote!

Catchphrase practicing was pretty funny, though cheesy for the most part.
That president seems awesome though! Liked how he gave individual advice to each of the members of the new Shounen Hollywood.

Meh start. I have yet to find the engaging factor to this show. Well, lets see how the plot develops.

It wasn't too bad, but I felt it was too realistic for a fun idol show. This kind of episode should be placed later on in the series for more of an impact and it should have started off like Free! which was more light hearted and fun in general.

Either way, I'm interested to see how this goes.

I love the five seiyuu individually but they all sound really similar, in timbre and range. They're all the high pitched singers, except Ono Kensho who balances it out. I liked Utapri's cast more because it was so diverse.

The animation and OST were pretty great, but the character design was too realistic for anime.

It was actually pretty good. I liked the opening episode and I think the animation is pretty nice. The character designs are nice as well. So far I like the interactions between the boys.

One of the better opening episodes I've seen for the season. Will be watching the next episode.

Also, so far, Shun is my favorite.

I wonder if you noticed that this anime is listed as "slice of life"...

I actually found it very interesting. Realistic portrayal of guys becoming idols,i like. I have been k-pop fan for cca 10 years so i really felt like this anime is hitting very close to home. Minus the lame j-pop idol choreos:3.

Also how dumb you must be to compare this to Tokyo Ghoul?...are you kidding me?It's completely different thing what the hell. Like comparing metal song to pop song...give me a break.
And other thing is...stop whining about anime aimed at women and go to watch 96% of other anime production which is not aimed at women, bye. (imho, this one should be watchable for guys too though)

^ This. If anything, Tokyo Ghoul should be compared to the action/mystery shows this season like SAO or Aldnoah Zero.

I'd love for people to stop bashing on this season's female-orientated shows just because there's more of them this time. The cover picture and synopsis make it pretty obvious what it'll be like so it's best to ignore it if you think it's gonna be full of fujoshi fanservice.

Yeah I really liked that part, so much second hand embarrassment. The whole introduction part was just so funny, but it's good that they're taking it seriously (despite the intros being so silly).

I like the slice of life take on this, only because I think the only other "idol" show I've seen is UtaPri, and well, that was just so much ridiculousness, and I've only watched the first season which is not even really about idols. I love the cast though, except Yamashita Daiki who I'm not too familiar with.

The ending was pretty funny, it was mostly supposed to inspirational as we see all of them working on their intros at home or some other place (especially Mii, the way he seemed so happy performing in front of the kids). And then Kakeru's sister barges in and tells him to quiet down, as well as saying that he's embarrassing! That was a nice way to end the episode.

I love this show alr! It's one of the shows that I was looking forward to this season and I'm glad that it didn't disappoint unlike the first two shows of the season

-Wow the monologue before the OP was so relatable. But too bad, the period of time of my life that was already laid before me has ended last year.
-It's just my opinion but Kakeru's voice doesn't match his body 0.o
-Shun is my fav! Kuroko's seiyuu, red hair and megane guy :D Mii is a close second cos he's so enthusiastic abt being an idol and him being a fanboy of the original grp is quite endearing
-I really like the President. He gives out blunt advice but he really thinks the group can surpass the original one.
-Makki is once a delinquent lol
-Kira seems to have big ego cos he used to be a child star so I predict his ego will cause friction with the other members
-I'm really curious abt the original group and what caused them to disband

Yeah I definitely agree with you, except the Free! part. Honestly I don't get the large amt of appeal and favour Free! gets. :/ I'm all up for fanservice for girls but this show is so abundant of it that everytime I watch an ep, I'll be thinking how Tumblr is gonna explode over them. I also thought the show is rather shallow and the main guys are nothing more than tools for fanservice. So I just found it odd and frustrating when I see comments that said shows that are aimed at females post-Free! shld be like Free!

That aside, it was definitely realistic and it's so realistic that it's akin to a live-action drama series. But it's a refreshing change and it puts stories abt male idol groups in a more serious light. And, yeah hearing when they sing together, it's not diverse and there's a lot of high pitches.

I was originally someone who watched Free! to critisize it, but I ended up liking the characters for their quirks and fun personalities, especially Rei and Makoto. They're a lot more than just walking muscles (even though that's what Gou calls them lol) and have a lot of strong points that they develop throughout the series.

You can't really stop Tumblr fangirls because there's a lot of posts for each fandom, not just Free!. I don't think Shounen Hollywood should be exactly like Free! but I thought it could have more of the chirpy fun that Free! had and have a more engaging first episode.

You know, I actually got a pretty nice feel from this anime. I've never been very interested in the whole idol genre, but I'm liking how realistic this is managing to be without being too suffocating. I'm particularly interested in how the guys are interacting with each other. The humor was pretty nice, too (I got a good laugh out of the catchphrase bit and the ending XD)

I think I'm going to stick with this one. Though the first episode wasn't spectacular per say, I thought it was a nice breath of fresh air. :)

I'm gonna give this show up till episode 3 to see whether I'd resume it or drop it.
It somehow makes Bakumatsu Rock seems better in terms of idol/music anime this season so far.
And it oddly reminds me of a male version of AKB48.

The opening reminds me of the type of songs Johnnys Ent would do, but maybe it's coz it's part of the jpop culture... But other than that, it needs to step up its game to draw me in with the whole "bishonen-idol-music" anime :s

Well I checked out this anime because I really liked UtaPri and La Corda and thought I may like this because it was another music based anime.

Definitely have to say that out of all the animes that have aired this season so far, this has to be my least favorite. There was no connection between the guys to even make them a likeable group. The dialogue was bland and the music is just okay.

So far I have to say that for music based animes Bakamatsu ROCK has to be the better of the two!

The season is off to a good start though with SAO II, Rail Wars!, Tokyo Ghoul, Barakamon, Sailor Moon Crystal, and Glasslip! Still have a bunch more to check out this coming week!
So glad that I'm not a huge manga reader, because the manga readers WHINE WAY TOO MUCH and have to RUIN every adapted anime for the ANIME ONLY WATCHERS!

I didn't plan on watching this anime but I had no more new anime to watch so I gave it a chance and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I have mixed feelings on this series however I am interested to see if it explores the grueling training idol groups undergo for several years beforehand, the whole episode touched on that with the training.

The animation was very consistent and pretty good.

The opening was nothing special and the ending: I don't even know; no comment.

Kira and the manager/dance coach guy were both annoying and if I keep watching the show, I know they are going to piss me off.

The scripting seems promising:
"Did my universe just break? Or did it expand?" and the other inner monologues seemed okay.

The introductions made me cringe, they're god awful.

Surprisingly worth the watch. Doesn't turn out as bad as I imagined it would be. Seems like a more realistic approach to an idol anime, which in itself is quite interesting and probably what's causing me to not drop this show, for now.

The animation is is really good.

OP and ED seems lackluster, though I think ED is the better one.

The characters all seem kinda interesting. I like how near the end of the show, we were given a sneak peek of each of the boys life (lol delinquent turned idol).

So this is like the more realistic side that UtaPri never showed? I still remember they even summoned a dragon at some point.

The introductions were a bit too long for my liking, it felt particularly draggy at that part.
I actually like this art though.

It's like Dragon Voice but less rowdy, it's like UtaPri but no harem and cheesiness. It wasn't stellar enough for first episode but at least, I enjoyed it. I /was/ a fan of J-Pop & K-Pop boybands so this really bring me back the nostalgia www (esp the catchphrases part hahaah I was already in minority among fangirls who dislike favourite idols doing cheesy intro hhaahaha)

Was really surprised to see the seiyuu lineup for this (eeee Aoi Shouta's back to being a seiyuu, love him as kouhai in Kimi to Boku and Mikaze-senpai in UtaPri 2 and hahaah apparently Onoda, Kuroko, Tanikaze & Toudou are gonna be idols hahaha)

I like this so I'm gonna follow it, I don't see any excessive manservice (geez do you even watch the whole episode?) It's really laidback and I like the atmosphere and mood of the whole show. Nice change to see.

Pretty plain, but rather serious and realistic with it's subject matter, it's not common to see that in your Slice of Life shows.

Basic but effective presentation on the characters and the story. I like the animation and I do approve of this bishounen design, nothing ridiculous, just anime hair so you can differentiate them. I also liked the coach lecture and the humiliating training, makes them more human and believable, effective build up as well.

It's obvious that this is going to be rather slow and probably boring at parts. It is done competently enough to have my attention and follow it. 3/5 - OK.

I don't even know how these people are comparing animes of different genres. It's like comparing classical music to rock, if you know what I mean. You can't compare different genres because people obviously will pick what they like more.

If you take the series as it is without comparing it to your bias, this is actually not half bad. It's quite interesting to watch Idol group who actually feels embarrassed in doing something. :)
The character design takes time to use to, but after watching re-watching it I actually appreciate the character design. I can't wait to listen to their songs, the ED was so cute~

The cover speaks for itself. It's an anime targeted for female, so if that isn't your cup of tea, the don't watch it.
