Man, what a rush. That had to be the best case so far, the swordplay especially stealing the show. It was kind of jarring to see Chise's tiny loli body keeping up with Jubei's movements in an explosive exchange.

Also found it kind of peculiar how the Japanese are portrayed as the foreigners for once.

Am I the only one who felt underwhelmed?

-There's no context as to why these assassins are after the Lord.
-Not many twists and turns.
-No flashback or monologues, thoughts, to show Chise's past and her state of mind: her backstory is just stated, and...that's it.
-The reveal of Jubei being her dad was out of nowhere, so I didn't really feel anything.
-The fight between was...just swords slashing. As in, they were always on equal footing, one never dominated the other, no shift in power dominance.

I was actually kind of impressed by the fight scene itself (not the context, obviously).
Chise was constantly doing all those crazy flips in the air, while Jubei stood his ground and made solid, firm, strikes.
It's a really interesting contrast.

I don't remember exactly any more. It had to do with the setup, sounded like it will be a duty vs. family type of story. I was certain when one of the minor assassins called Chise a traitor.

I see, that certainly gives some clues. Thanks.

A great episode and I am loving this show, but I hope now that all the characters have had their introduction the story will be linear from this point on, all this jumping around is starting to get to me.

All this action combined with very bloody scenes makes the story more noir. Now the narration is suitable even if the protagonists are all young women. Very catchy the soundtrack, it is quite touch the final.

Chise is cute and badass at the same time.

Sucks for her she has to kill her own father. She and Ange make a good pair.

Damn, Yuki Kajiura doesn´t dissapoint. That duel was delicious.

Ryouma Ebata. Great fuking job on this ep! It looked so smooth and so clean, especially the train fight scene. The plot twist with Jubei was alright, but that burial scene was sad as fuck, still.

On the last part though, does it imply that Dorothy SLEPT with Horikawa? If that's the case, then... maaaan, FUCK. Really hope that wasn't the case.

I don't even care if she'll trick me or kill me afterwards, I'd be really glad to sleep with Dorothy. Hoping that she gets more focus/action in the next episodes.

Hmm, when you forgo all the logic this series is still cute girls doing cute (and bloody) things at its core.
It really makes no sense to watch this for anything else. Who cares that the plot is always stupid and full of plot holes, right?

Some intense Japanese sword fighting, well I got to say that sure was interesting! Still don't really understand the whole back and forth time changes! But well looking forwards to see what's next.

Love this episode, two train fight and some feels.

Going back and watching it a second time, sadly I think the animation outside of fight scenes i n the train cars is not all that great, but the sword fights are great.
Leaving the Japanese voices in the dub for conversations between Japanese was a great move, this dub was super-except for what seemed to be a timing error in one of Todo Jubei's lines.

none of the soldiers got mad about a maid an a Jap ruining their card games lol
also gotta love the classic the 'tracks merging into one line' scenario, hooray for laissez-faire and deregulation XD

So, that's how they met Chise. We got to really see her skills in this episode.

The assassin she killed was actually her father. After burying him, it's quite clear that it was difficult for her to do, but she despised what her father had become, and she felt that she had to stop him.

I knew it. Chise's introduction.

Well, it was obvious that murderer was Chise's dad since she mentioned him.

Really thrilling episode, best of the series so far and the dub is getting better and better for me too. The dub's been a fascinating mixed bag so far since a lot of the people speak the same way when there's multiple kinds of British accents and some sound a lot older than they look like Beatrice, but I felt like the dub did this episode immense justice, by having Chise shine with her bilingual side as she speaks in almost a broken English accent since she's a Japanese character in the show and the dub actually maintains the Japanese audio for some of the Japanese characters who can't speak English when in combat. It's a smart technique that not many anime pull off, utilizing various kinds of languages and maintaining it smartly to create a better atmosphere and realism for the show. The content itself was really exciting surrounding the theme of assassination this time around and I have to say, Chise was a beast of a samurai in this episode. Glad she joined up with the rest of the crew permanently. The show took quite an interesting approach with her character since she's almost written like a Western version of what a Japanese character would be like with some additional influences of Japanese culture when it comes to behavior, despite the actual anime being Japanese straight up. It fits the show though in a weird way, just like the dub's beginning to fit more and more now too. The structure of storytelling still feels a bit odd and unnecessarily non-linear but it didn't matter much here, I had so much fun regardless.

Oh yeah, Yuki Kajiura still delivers immensely with the score for the anime. Adds so much bloodpumping excitement to scenes with how great her jazzy compositions have been, plus hearing the opening song as usual just makes me even more hyped up.

Nice action-packed episode.

Chise was introduced. The scene at her father's grave was very touching. "Owie, owie, fly away..." Well, it didn't help much this time. Poor girl.

The episode where Chise is introduced into the Principal Team, this non-linear story plot knows how to work its wonders by backtracking.

Aside from the culture shock difference between the rest and her extended family of Japanese expats in foreign land, there's reason for anyone to doubt Chise's involvement to kill their enemy, and Princess places her under watch with Ange for a change.

Once again, another feud from the Duke of Normandy brought to the Principal spy team, and Chise and Ange makes for an interesting double team. Technically this is Chise's first fight on foreign soil, and to say that the impression is something I still remember fondly between a traitorous father and loyal daughter.

"Owie, owie, fly away..." what a stark reminder.

Some thrilling fight choreography, despite it being somewhat of a claustrophobic experience with all the close-up shots. Great fight regardless.

The characters moved with added emphasis. Instantly remembered that this ep featured the 'Ebata Walk', so it clicked from there.

Character design can be a bit off. Took me a sec to realise that the guy from ep 4, who was beside the Queen, was the Duke of Normandy... I think. Sounded the same, had blue eyes and grey hair. If it wasn't, I blame the character design.

So cool how Beatrice survived a blast from the sword that cut down the door just moments before. Cyborgs are so cool.

Also I love Chise's backstory! The train hopping and the fight with Jubei were really cool.

So Princess was on a mission for the East to meet Horikawa. To the East, Ange and Dorothy are simply school friends of Princess, so they are allowed to accompany her as maids. But then Ange just treats the soldiers like she owns them and her and Dorothy fight with an assassin on the roof of the train and everyone is like... sure? Wouldn't they be suspicious why they have these skills? Seems like a huge plot hole.
