A lot of funny moments, i'd say. Lou found her master with a class, lefting Ricky bafflingly, under their statements. Kek. I dunno about his bad plan, though. I hope its not bring himself more down to the deepest regret, considering he's the only one who hasn't found his master, yet.

Emilico just being a cute moe chara again. Holy shit. The scorches can't even do anything to prevent her shiny play. Though, congratulations to solved the maze riddle, and hope you can also save Kate out of it without much hurdle disturbing you. The way they solved Rum issues also pretty nice too. A little imagination won't be hard to believed as a good motivation, right? Nice catch, Emilico.

Edward being the shadow mostly the most shocked moment in the last sequence for me, together with the piano instrumental ed. Sad, no inai inai ed this time. Idk whats shit going on there, generally. But its still nice seeing all of the new information related to the shadow house society and its hyerarchy. In the end, i can't wait to see how his reaction changes after he find out all of the target on his palm, not following his direction. It must be a blast!

WOW! This episode was spectacular! Especially the reveal and the ending sequence with the grand piano piece. It really gave me the chills as the piano played with such intensity~

This may be the first time I may need to rewatch an episode right after just watching it, not because I didn't understand what happened, but because I feel terribly bad.

The reason is because this ending was just amazing. The reveal that Edward can turn into a Shadow, or maybe his doll and his shadow are the same right now. The transition from the piano to the ending. Everything so amazing.

But at that time, I was so worried about the shadows and their dolls and the debut, that all I could think was "Oh, so the episode is about to end and I don't care about this guy".

But as the ending kept showing Edward I just noticed of how big this was supposed to be and started feeling really bad for not caring about it at all.

I mean, I think that first impressions are really important and I just hate that the fact my first impression of such amazing scene was "heh, I don't care". Edward's concept is really cool and I hate that I didn't cared about it, what's happening to me? Existential crisis after watching anime episode? lol

Guess it is mostly this anime's "fault" by making me care so much about the characters that I couldn't notice the big plot behind it.

Talking about the episode, it was great. Love the synergy between Emilyko and Rum and for the first time I started feeling really bad for Ricky. It was really fun to think that Lou sounded super confident of herself when she was actually saying the truth.

The fact that Lou was able to understand how (almost) all shadow's soot work when they are angry/worried just show that she is really smart, even shows no emotion at all.

For a second, I was expecting Kate to be the cause of her own disaster, but here we have Emilyko to save the day again.

Well, re-watching the episode won't change my first impression. It's done. At least talking about it here made me feel a little bit better. Can't wait for the next episode.

Holy shit that ending was amazing. That was a really great episode! Binged the manga this past week and boy this series is fantastic, quickly became one of my favorite mangas right now.

I don't know if Ricky was scared or aroused after seeing that disgust face of Lou lmao. Sorry buddy, she's in face mode right now, don't do anything bad Ricky boy, Lou still helped you. Godbless our little literal sunshine Emilico, feel really bad for Rum though, she never made a connection with Shirley. But, it's not too late to try. Edward's a bitch but man, he's a good villain. Really looking forward to the next episode.

This was a decent episode, but those last few minutes with Edward, Jer and Allie really disrupted the momentum that the debut was building, all to give us some further exposition on the House hierarchy and on the importance of the debut; I feel like we could have had most of this at the start of the debut without messing with the momentum like this, to be perfectly honest.

As for the reveal that Edward is actually a Shadow rather than a living doll, I'm not really sure what to make of that besides finding it interesting that it is possible for a Shadow to disguise themself as a doll; I guess it's just another form of soot control, as we're getting more and more hints that such abilities aren't at all unique to Kate. Really, it just raises the question of how Edward was able to pull off the ruse to gain control of the debut from an information perspective: if the lower dolls and Shadows are being monitored as suggested here, surely that would be the case for Edward in either of his forms, or is the show saying he's somehow kept the ruse up his entire life until this moment? Do Allie and Jer even know that he's not a doll, or are they also Shadows in disguise? Whatever the case, what exactly is their aim here? I find it hard to believe it's just about making their way to the top of the Shadows House hierarchy and the fabled third floor.

Another great episode! I'm glad to see it keep sticking so closely to the source material! And the pacing feels great too! I was wondering how they were gonna depict the Edward transformation, and I think they really pulled it off well here!

Overall, I started off pleased with this show on episode 1 and I'm happy to say I still am!

5/5 episode for me. Can't wait to see how they go about the next episode!

It was probably the crappy looking CGI piano playing that made you not care, as well as the lackluster ED. In the animators defense though I wouldn't want to animate Edwards jacket either.

This was an extremely cute episode.

Wait what was the ending, that's definitely gotta be explained. Is Edward a shadow doll, or is it something else. Emilico killing the scorches with the broom was so god damn cute, and I'm excited to witness more cuteness in the next episode.

Man, I gotta praise Emilico for having the fucking patience to handle Rum's shyness because I'm actually getting annoyed at how goddamn shy and hopeless she is. Even in real life, I just don't have a lot of patience with people that have extreme social anxiety lol.

Also, that dude being a "shadow" did not surprise me at all. Think about it. Shadows seems like they have the authority and it looks like they're the one that's running the show so why tf is a "human" like him the one that's judging the shadow masters and the living dolls on their debut. Because he's a shadow too, duh...

I enjoyed this episode overall, but I'm getting frustrated with how dragged out Emilico reaching Kate is and seems. I just want her to reach and reunite with Kate already. And a consequence of this and the debut taking so many episodes has been a seriously disappointing dearth in Kate screentime.

Lou went full Jason Voorhees at the beginning of the episode. Also damn, so many good face reactions we got this week. From Disgusted Lou to Ahegao Emilico xD

And man, that final sequence with Edward playing the piano was fantastic. Such a nice twist but not gonna lie, I'm kinda confused. Did Shadow Edward and his Living Doll merge together then? Or are they still two but the Shadow can adopt his Living Doll's face at will?

Anyways, great episode overall. The scene with Emilico comforting Rum in her own cheerful way was so damn sweet.

I don't think Ricky will have the guts to push Lou and his Master into the pit, but I wonder if the people watching would interfere or punish him in any way.
Rum Master just seems to be just an extremely introverted person, that is why she is so quiet and never talks to Rum.

About Edawrd… I think it's more like a merge, and that's why it's so important that the doll and the shadow need to be so alike, it would be very annoying to have two different souls in the same body. They could absorb it too, but I really don't think it would be necessary for them to act so equally.

About the dolls with the black cloth covering the body, maybe it's the dolls that didn't make it past the debut, and now they can't show their faces anymore.

The final scene about the transformation and the eding went me crazy, i watch twice. If the anime keep that way all the time i will give it note 10. Such a intersting villain above decent caracthers. There are so much mystery in this original anime that makes me so proud of being watching it evolving.

A very good episode, with a very startling ending. I wonder if the transformation of Edward into a Shadow means that Living Dolls and Shadows are (somehow) the same beings or that each Doll is meant to merge with the Shadow they serve. The former does not make much sense, since Dolls and Shadows always start as pairs (unless the Shadows-in-training already have Dolls inside them and probably do not even know it..); so it must be the latter.

Presumably Dolls and Shadows are meant to start as pairs and eventually become one and the same. This must be why they are trained to have the same mannerisms and personality. This is all preparation for the merging. How does that merging occur I have no idea. Edward looked like he wore a Shadow like a body sleeve, so before wearing it he must have been the Doll Edward (i.e. he was shadowless).

But what is his default state (of him and everyone above him), that of a Doll or a Shadow? And does the merging of bodies suggest a complete merging of personalities, characters, memories, the whole 9 yards, i.e. do two distinct beings literally become one? Is that even possible? Is the default state of Edward irrelevant because he (or is it they? not in the genderless sense but in the dual person sense) has reached a point where he is a singular being, both in body and spirit?

Is that, ultimately, the point of the tests? So I guess when Dolls and Shadows have very different personalities (like Emilico and Kate) the merging cannot succeed no matter what they do.. My questions are part rhetorical and part philosophical / existential, no spoilers please :) I didn't expect this anime would go so deep as to have us contemplate the meaning, qualities and limits of one's self (as in whether two selves can become one) but I think that's where it's headed.. Neat!

I don't know why Edward turned into a Shadow but I'm guessing the shadows and the living dolls aren't that much different if they have one creator. They can probably turn into one or the other depending on certain circumstances. I'm guessing that Edward has that ability and thus he's arrogant. He probably believes he's above everyone both the living dolls and the shadows.

an interesting reveal and special ending. edward just took the whole floor for himself. i do think he would benefit from a crazed theme like szamár madár (venetian snares) instead, or for his piano piece to be played with a little more passion... i wanted him to slam on some keys, letting them ring out loudly, as i'd believe that to fit him as a person. he did go out of his way to create a whole maze as his assumed entry into judging debuts, when it was stated by the (?) third floor shadows that some even decide it right in the (?) hall itself. overall, still great. especially the second half played outside of the episode into the credits. now that i think about it, most of the soundtracks have not caught my attention in this anime enough for me to seek them out.

Have to feel for Rum there, she isn't much talkative herself and moreover having a master like Shirley just not helping the cause either. Though now atleast she's ought to do things better on her own.

Ever since the debut arc started this show has been so, so full of plot conveniences, especially these last two eps, it's kind of frustrating. Also lmao @ Rum going from being absolutely passive to incredibly motivated in just a few seconds.. the almighty power of friendship i guess...

The world is so logical even without explaining itself in a blatant manner. The end credits for this with Edward's music was so fulfilling to watch.

Edit: I also wanted to add, while I dislike Rumu for crying so often and being generally useless. Realizing she's been living very isolated with a figure she's meant to bond with. She's thrown into the world knowing next to nothing, has a master that refuses but most likely can't interact with her, but takes care of her in an unspoken way. It's a hard lesson to understand and a harder to learn that love manifests in different ways. I was harsh on Rumu until this episode.
