Emilico is just so kind, always cares about others well-being above her own.

Not going to lie, this episode felt darker. I also find the piano scene and music to have a dark tone of melody. Quite an unique theme though.

It's so sweet how Emilico treats everyone else. I felt so sorry for Rum, but fortunately she made her feel a bit better.

I loved that piano ending.

Such an interesting observation from Lou there, the pattern of the soot rising was different for everyone. Impressive stuff from her. She knows her master too well. Ricky got embarrassed because of Lou's master. LOL

On the other hand, Emilico and Rum's teamwork made them get through the maze after some efforts but they were successful in the end. Emilico once again, being kind to poor Rum who has been through a lot. She defines Shirley that Shirley doesn't love her and she didn't even give Rum a name. Emilico such an adorable soul, making everyone smile just from her words.

Loved this episode! Edward’s transformation from a living doll to a shadow was done quite well and the music chosen was just perfect for his character.

So like we all figured, Edward is the mastermind of a pretty sinister plot. i’m still a bit confused on what that is tho. That ending sequence was awesome. Love the Piano outro.

I feel bad for Rum. She’s such a sweet girl to get treated that way by her shadow.. I hope we’ll see them at least talk at some point. Emilicco is a great friend for trying to cheer her up.

lol Draco (read:Ricky) tried so bad to act like a smartass yet Lou turned out to be better than him.

I love how they ended the episode. That's an unexpected yet interesting way to reveal the truth about the relationship between the shadows and the dolls. So, does that mean the dolls are basically prepared to be a vessel for the shadows and once they reach adulthood the shadows will possess the living doll taking over their bodies and can choose whether to appear in a shadow or a human (doll) form?? Interesting. This is the best episode of the anime so far.

The part with Rum was quite emotional and I'm glad Emilico is almost there. Thou what was that last scene? Edward became a shadow? So does that mean that Shadow and their face merge together?

Master Living Doll Edward truly is a bias and sinister judge, and you could feel it in every inch of the skin.

Lou is indeed smart like Harry Potter's Hermione, while Ricky still holds that Draco smart-ass feel. Getting his ass handed down by Louise feels satisfying, but this kid can always be a threat as and when deems fit.

Emilico and Rum almost walked into a Scorch-infested maze that looks like cockroaches roaming freely with the creeps, but the happy-go-lucky girl always manages to find a way through and giving Rum the confidence to act her part.

So Shirley hasn't give Rum a name yet, because her relationship with the both of them feels very constrained. What an emotional run for Rum, and Emilico encouraging her provides a great deal of comfort. Hope these 2 can have their relationship repaired soon.

The intriguing part about the Master Living Dolls (of which Edward is one with Jer and Allie) and the Shadows House, would like to get that fleshed out soon, even with this being their debut also. Interesting at the very least.

To be played at the hands of a mastermind, or outwit a meticulous puzzle, that is thy question for this debut. A Sonata-like Opus minor piece for the ED, that's as befitting for such like Edward.

Hell Yes!

Very good episode. It was really exciting watching as they figured out all the puzzles. Like Emilico and Rum with the maze, Lou with the soot thing etc.
Also gotta love the fact they changed the ED. Edward may be unlikable but I admire his piano skill. And... Edward is a Shadow?

Nice to see the Edward transformation shadow with special eerie ED. The mystery of the house will be unveiled in subsequent episodes.

The Ram and Emilico scene was sad emotional part of this episode. Lou finds her okage sama and Ricky has planning to sabotage them. Kate is in danger.

Overall great episode

So in order to liberate their masters the puppets should solve more puzzles (not searching for keys as I thought).
The conversation between the higher level puppets was very interesting, so those guys participate political intrigues too.
The Game Master playing piano reminded me Nodame Cantabile for some reason.
I wonder if all high level puppets can merge (borrow powers?) with their master or this is unique to Edward? I don't want someone answering this question, just wonder about the possibilities.

I think Edward's living doll body is being shared by both Edward and his master. You can clearly see his speech is different and the way he refers to himself compare to his Shadow form where he speaks in 3rd person which is indicative of a Shadow Master.

As much as I hate Edward, I have to admit, his piano was amazing. I just love instrumental sequences in anime and movies and this one was truly emotional. I could feel his hatred and envious over to those on the Third Floor and that he won't stop at anything to gain more power. And I got Goosebumps when the soot just overflown his entire body and emitted those musical notes.

What's up with Shirley? Thanks to Rum, now she sounds interesting.

Who was the 2 that Edward was talking about?

Edward transformation, made me think, if at a certain point after Shadows and Dolls are synced enough, the Shadow absorb the Doll body.

That Edward reveal, I suspected he was a little too mouthy to be a doll.
I wonder if that means some or maybe all dolls fates are to be 'worn' by their shadow masters?

Emilico is usually a screw-up, yet for some reason she has become extremely intelligent, coordinated, resourceful and emotionally observant as soon as the labryinth challange started. It is for the better, but it’s a little abrupt for her character. Edward’s change into a shadow was really interesting and opens up a lot of questions about the world.

I'd say she's generally a screw-up not due to a lack of intelligence or resourcefulnes (she did find that ghost in the end), but maybe more due to being nervous and yes, quite clumsy at times. Then again, she said she likes trying to make people feel better, so maybe it's her way of trying to get people to laugh and now she's actually being serious about this whole ordeal?

Really confusing and enticing episode. It’s finally bringing up some of the mysteries. Edward controlling the soot and turning into a shadow is probably what is on everyone’s mind after finishing this episode. Hard to say what it is and I’m intrigued to find out what it is.

What I’m thinking is that the physical doll Edward really a shadow master, but is being fully controlled from the sidelines?

Or maybe Edward found out a way to control the soot or is controlling it with the help of his master?

Really hard to say, but I’m staying tuned till next week to see what’s the truth behind this!

Woah that twist at the end was crazy, loved the transitioning ending too, amazing stuff.

So shadows take over dolls at one point? But now it makes much more sense they are looking for a "face" in the most literal way possible....

But that brings up more questions..are shadows without a vessel pure soot? Or do they already possess something to resemble a human form even before that? Could it be they even need to change vessels every now and then?

Now then it also could be that Edward is actually a shadow master who learned to "shed" soot. Or really is just a doll who somehow got the ability to control soot?

Mysteries everywhere.

Interesting episode to say the least. The struggle of Rum kinda fills the concept of not being able to tell the others feelings, hits close home, wonder how Rum can solve such problem in the future. Lou being able to tell what others cant tell is such a Lou thing too as she doesnt really fret over anything about herself

It would be a shame that this doesnt get another season though, the whole world is a blast of misteries and there is almost no time left to fully develop it to my desires

A lot of funny moments, i'd say. Lou found her master with a class, lefting Ricky bafflingly, under their statements. Kek. I dunno about his bad plan, though. I hope its not bring himself more down to the deepest regret, considering he's the only one who hasn't found his master, yet.

Emilico just being a cute moe chara again. Holy shit. The scorches can't even do anything to prevent her shiny play. Though, congratulations to solved the maze riddle, and hope you can also save Kate out of it without much hurdle disturbing you. The way they solved Rum issues also pretty nice too. A little imagination won't be hard to believed as a good motivation, right? Nice catch, Emilico.

Edward being the shadow mostly the most shocked moment in the last sequence for me, together with the piano instrumental ed. Sad, no inai inai ed this time. Idk whats shit going on there, generally. But its still nice seeing all of the new information related to the shadow house society and its hyerarchy. In the end, i can't wait to see how his reaction changes after he find out all of the target on his palm, not following his direction. It must be a blast!

This may be the first time I may need to rewatch an episode right after just watching it, not because I didn't understand what happened, but because I feel terribly bad.

The reason is because this ending was just amazing. The reveal that Edward can turn into a Shadow, or maybe his doll and his shadow are the same right now. The transition from the piano to the ending. Everything so amazing.

But at that time, I was so worried about the shadows and their dolls and the debut, that all I could think was "Oh, so the episode is about to end and I don't care about this guy".

But as the ending kept showing Edward I just noticed of how big this was supposed to be and started feeling really bad for not caring about it at all.

I mean, I think that first impressions are really important and I just hate that the fact my first impression of such amazing scene was "heh, I don't care". Edward's concept is really cool and I hate that I didn't cared about it, what's happening to me? Existential crisis after watching anime episode? lol

Guess it is mostly this anime's "fault" by making me care so much about the characters that I couldn't notice the big plot behind it.

Talking about the episode, it was great. Love the synergy between Emilyko and Rum and for the first time I started feeling really bad for Ricky. It was really fun to think that Lou sounded super confident of herself when she was actually saying the truth.

The fact that Lou was able to understand how (almost) all shadow's soot work when they are angry/worried just show that she is really smart, even shows no emotion at all.

For a second, I was expecting Kate to be the cause of her own disaster, but here we have Emilyko to save the day again.

Well, re-watching the episode won't change my first impression. It's done. At least talking about it here made me feel a little bit better. Can't wait for the next episode.

Holy shit that ending was amazing. That was a really great episode! Binged the manga this past week and boy this series is fantastic, quickly became one of my favorite mangas right now.

I don't know if Ricky was scared or aroused after seeing that disgust face of Lou lmao. Sorry buddy, she's in face mode right now, don't do anything bad Ricky boy, Lou still helped you. Godbless our little literal sunshine Emilico, feel really bad for Rum though, she never made a connection with Shirley. But, it's not too late to try. Edward's a bitch but man, he's a good villain. Really looking forward to the next episode.

This was a decent episode, but those last few minutes with Edward, Jer and Allie really disrupted the momentum that the debut was building, all to give us some further exposition on the House hierarchy and on the importance of the debut; I feel like we could have had most of this at the start of the debut without messing with the momentum like this, to be perfectly honest.

As for the reveal that Edward is actually a Shadow rather than a living doll, I'm not really sure what to make of that besides finding it interesting that it is possible for a Shadow to disguise themself as a doll; I guess it's just another form of soot control, as we're getting more and more hints that such abilities aren't at all unique to Kate. Really, it just raises the question of how Edward was able to pull off the ruse to gain control of the debut from an information perspective: if the lower dolls and Shadows are being monitored as suggested here, surely that would be the case for Edward in either of his forms, or is the show saying he's somehow kept the ruse up his entire life until this moment? Do Allie and Jer even know that he's not a doll, or are they also Shadows in disguise? Whatever the case, what exactly is their aim here? I find it hard to believe it's just about making their way to the top of the Shadows House hierarchy and the fabled third floor.
