Art aside..

This was an absolutely beautiful episode. Just so many different emotions all packed up in three minutes nice and tightly. Adulthood is no laughing matter, and Kaoru's back story was no doubt very relatable to many people. Will everything really be okay? Even after all I'm doing and trying..? What a realistic take on the harshness of life.

This show continues to surprise me so pleasantly.
If this was a standard 22 minute series and kept with the same quality of storytelling and better animations, there's no doubt this show could be well rated around 8-8.5.

Perfect description of the episode :) I definitely thought it was really relatable, although I'm not yet at the stage of life she was suffering in in her flashback, but I'm almost there...like it'll be coming up in half a year and I'll be clueless in life and probably be like her. I wasn't expecting a serious episode, but it was a good one nevertheless. Short but to the point and done effectively. The ending part was cute too. Everything did turn out okay for Kaoru ^^

I relate to this episode too much at this point in my life...

I'm glad everything worked out for her in the end! This episode sort of felt like it was the last episode, so I'm glad to see that there are still 2 more episodes!

This was really a good episode.

Noticed the change in art style but is it just for this ep?

That was some super sweet stuff right there. Especially the bedroom scene, loved it a lot.
I mainly see the animes... so don't blame me for not knowing about the Manga/LN

At first I was wondering if I'm watching the right episode of this show but then yes it is and in the end it actually came out well. Nice and very "adult" episode.

That drawing/visual art style, although messy and somewhat old fashioned, really fit the mood of and what they were telling. It even persisted as Kaoru woke up and we come back the present, which gripes me a bit, for they didn't go back to the usual art style.

Wow so much wrongness in one thread, this is why anime can't do anything beyond their comfort zone, bunch of art style losers whining.
The art change was good, it represented her past.

Young Hajime is seriously good looking :O someone post an img :(

I didnt like this epsiode too much. Altough that is a bit wrong cause just own its own as a one time short i would have been a good episode. But in the context of the series I dont like it. I dont like sudden, abrupt changes in tone and artstyle. The only show who can pull that off and I still love is Space Dandy.

Apparently this episode was directed by Itsuki Imazaki, who has a rather distinct flair in his usual art style.

Yeah that sure explains a lot... the art was just so totally different... the characters looked just too different ^^" Quite a different feel oO Almost like a different anime

Anyway still a nice ep :)

Nice episode with the flashback to a truly dark time for Kaoru. The difference in art style and direction definitely added to the atmosphere of the episode. Cute ending as well.

Didn't like the message of the episode that much. "Women, get yourself a man, any man, because you won't be able to get by alone, even if you think you do." It also kind of made it look like she said she loved him just because she didn't want to be alone anymore.
And there they wonder why Japan is one of the most misogynic developed countries and why they have difficulties getting women into the workforce even though they desperately need them.

They should have just concentrated on the job she didn't like - that issue remained unsolved. Two things are too much to do well in such a short time.

I don't think it was much directed to women, so far the show makes it looks like that Hajime was in a similar situation.

This ep was a bit more on the serious side. Kinda gave me the same vibe as Tatami galaxy. Im not really sure if the art was improved or worsened; but it was definitely a bit different from the usual.

Aww...the end looks like me and Sarah.
From all the times I've woken up to her with a black eye, or the cat mad at me, I figure I'm a pretty violent sleeper.
From what she's told me the circumstances were similar too.
She claims to have been trapped on campus for 2 years before I met her without ever knowing there was a world out there.
Unlike Kaoru though, she's as much of a freak as I am, in fact the only person I've ever met including other otaku who can put up with my full personality for more than a short amount of time.
I really ever unleash my full self around her, alone, or at cons. anywhere else is dangerous, and I've seen results vary from mild irritation to a Lovecraftian loss of sanity.
As a result I tend to subdue my intensity around most people, an average coworker may see 10% on a good day, a trusted family member will see up to 30%.
There's only one person I share my whole being with.
And this is the show to remind me of her (not that a lot of them don't).
I go by many names, some call me Hoshimaru, others call me Jiro or Aosou-Kun.
I believe myself a force for good, a papercrafter by trade, and one who seeks love and beauty animesque.

Very notable episode. This might be one of my favorites because of how relatable and real this one is.
The off-putting animation style reinforced the feelings expressed here. What a great short.
